Holiday Inn Colchester By IHG

Its well placed to break a longer journey. The room was spacious. All the staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was well set out with plenty of choice available. We were meeting friends at the hotel and there were plenty of options to seat four of us together in the dining room.

I asked for a wine list to be told that the bar manager had withdrawn them from the tables, we ended up with the bar staff reading out a list from the till. The bar offered very limited options for four people to sit together, we ended up moving chairs. Evening meal was a huge disappointment one item which the waitress recommended and two of us ordered was unavailable {she was clearly embarrassed as no one had told her} I had fish and chips, the 'fish' was mainly batter, one of us had a burger which was very greasy and an omelette which was lumpy! We had stopped here last year and were disappointed to find a real drop in the standard of the meal. We will be looking for somewhere else next year.

Staff friendly

Restaurant area was slightly dirty but generally rooms were very warm

Beds were comfortable but two singles and they were rolling around the floor everytime you moved. Originally thought I had booked a double room.

Bathroom door had very knocked about appearance.Poor finish due to lack of care.

The food was good, decent room size

Staff in the restaurant were quite rude when we took off the tip, as the service was basically non-existent. Food took ages to turn up and they didn't even check to make sure it was okay, never came over to the table once they had served food

When we arrived at 15.20pm our room was not ready. We had to wait a further 20 minutes. When going into our room it smelt like wet dog. (Guessing from a dirty cloth used for cleaning).Both the mattresses in our room were extremely uncomfortable. Especially the sofa bed, could feel the springs and my son struggled to sleep.

I was a tad cold but staff were great and turned the heating on for me although wasn’t any spare duvets for me to have

Nice hotel no complaints restaurant was good room was good fairly near to the venue we were attending a competition at would definitely stay here again if we needed to be in the area... Kids went in the pool the hot tub was out of action

The swimming pool was great, had our Grandson with us and he loved it

Had to wait over an hour for our food in the evening so not impressed with that at all, very slow service.

Location is always great for us to stay near to our family, only moments away. The staff as always, are super friendly. The shower pressure is great here and the water drains well in the shower.

Given the festive period, there was no motivation to make the stay a bit extra special especially as we've also stayed here numerous times. The cleanliness was also poor and the staff failed to clean our room on one of the days. Super lazy and disappointing.

We booked an overnight stay as we were there for a comedy dining night and were very impressed with our extremely clean large comfortable room.All of the staff are really friendly and helpful and we'd be happy to stay again and use more of the facilities.

Absolutely wonderful, the breakfast was amazing, love the steam room, pool and hot tub, and the fact its dog friendly topped it off for me, so good I've booked again in February... Thank-you keep up the excellent work.. many thanks Tanya

Everything was wonderful

The staff are amazing. Very welcoming, the room we had which was dog friendly was awesome. Kings size bed, settee, and walk in shower. Bed very comfy.Breakfast was excellent with loads of choices, and was seated by a very friendly lady in the bar area which is next to resturant as we had our dog with us. Our dog says thanks for the sausages. Overall 10/10

Feel let down

Scramble eggs very poor Apples poor quality not enough melons bacon very dry and cold hot water for tea cold.Jacuzzi very small.no room service as advertised.no bottle of water in room.room service on phone is police emergency no.front desk very long to pick up phone.this time feel let down as it was our 53 wedding anniversary.tea facilities in room very poor.Porter was excellent very helpful.

Very friendly staff, welcoming to dogs, spacious rooms, excellent breakfast, easy access to the town by car,4 miles from Colchester.

Not possible but if this hotel were in the town centre that would have been great.

Our room wasn't clean when we arrived. Only 4 teabags and milk. They weren't replaced on Saturday.

My family and I used this hotel several times in the past 10 years .

The property has not been maintained well. Front Desk, bar and the sitting area near the reception needs freshening up. The changing room swimming pool area is not cleaned enough a smell of urine on the floor and also for the first time no towels available so we have to go back to our room to get the towels. Television is so boring should swap to smart tv where you can log in to Netflix or any app so guest can get entertained.
