Pros +

  • Location great, night porter extremely helpful.
  • 10 minute walk for Colchester park where I was attending a festival close to shops and restaurants
  • We ended up staying in the partner hotel Star Anglian which was very clean & due to an upgrade a very comfortable room.

Cons -

  • Owner/ manager need¿s to improve this hotel, it¿s tired and dated and it feels as if he¿s cutting corners rather than making an effort to improve.
  • When we arrived the hotel was locked & no staff available, after calling them someone turned up & we were told there was no booking for us, after 40 minutes and the arrival of another member of staff who found a booking, we were shown rooms in the hotel next door. The Globe hotel was very tired looking & didn’t look clean. The rating reflects The Globe Hotel and not the Star Anglia which was ok. However it’s a strange set up with no staff on hand should there be a problem.
  • Smelled of bleach. And there was a very bright light from the "emergency lighting" box on in the room all night, which made sleeping difficult.

Staff were very friendly. Had a fault with the kettle in my room (kept tripping the electrics) so rang reception to ask for replacement. One was provided to my room shortly after and had no problems.

Lovely staff, and an easy walk to the town (5 mins). Clean and easy. Nice bed, which was comfortable. Quiet.

Smelled of bleach. And there was a very bright light from the "emergency lighting" box on in the room all night, which made sleeping difficult.

Filthy and rude! Avoid at all cost

curtain rail hanging off the wall as was the coat hooksTv didn’t work neither did the side lights and let’s not forget the mould in the kettle! also you have to ‘check in’ at the stars hotel reception opposite so very unclear who actually works at the globe.

Great room - we were upgraded as soon as we arrived. Managed to park easily in their car park and left our car there for duration of stay. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Bathroom was excellent. Unfortunately we left an electric toothbrush in the room when we left - we phoned the day after - the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful, he followed it up for us and it was retrieved. Then they packed and posted it to us and we got it back that week. Thanks for great service - it is much appreciated and certainly a mark of going beyond.

Nothing,

Leaving

The room smelt like a sewer. Could hear every single noise from room above and next door. The en-suite was like a portable toilet.

nothing!! Reception is at an adjacent hotelit took 7 attempts for me to get into my door. the duvet was stained. one electrical socket hidden by the wardrobe. towels were tired and old. nothing in the room matched ie green duvet, blue curtains, dark wooden headboard. the look was not inviting. I also had to use my torch on my phone to see where I was going as no lights in hallway and up stairs. (I came in at 10.30pm) dangerous

as above

room carpet wasn't great. Not a good value for 70GBP paid

Bigger duvet, neater carpet

The room was comfortable but the plug in the sink was faulty. I couldn’t use the sink as the water would have over flowe

Arrived late and was hungry, lucky we had our packed dinner which was now cold, but the lady at the desk (Kate) politely assist to help us speak to the kitchen to warm the food for us, and plus brought the food to our room.

The most enjoyable thing was how the corridors occasionally had automatic lights and sometimes didn’t. it was fun to guess if I’d be walking in the dark or not.

Nobody on the desk seemed to really care about anything. Didn’t give any form of gratitude. The room had a ripped towel, and a dirty mug. The sheets were barley on, and they had an odd smell. The lamp shade was moth eaten and falling to bits (I mean literally in bits) and there were stains everywhere. “you get what you pay for” doesn’t even come into it because I paid £75 for one evening. all be it last minute. This hotel is worth £15 a night maximum. Then at 6:30am somebody starts stomping about the corridors. This is not guests. it’s a cleaner or other staff. I didn’t catch who they were. The hotel floors were loud anyway but this person made a point of stamping their feet as hard as they could. Awful hotel.

room was clean

no bar, no breakfast, not 24 hr reception

1LeePosted on: 9-8-2022

The room had a door, ceiling and a bed…apart from that…poor

The receptionist was extremely rude and acting very odd. I’d advise any single women to be on guard. Never ever to stay there again! Awful smelly hotel! Awful

Nothing, literally nothing... check the feedback ive already sent 3 times!!

Terrible hotel, toilet seats on window sills, and a horrendous smell the entire time we were there.

3StaceyPosted on: 8-22-2022

- Very close to Castle Park where we spent the day.- Easy check in- Plenty of free parking on site- Comfortable bed

- Our room was right on the road and it was extremely noisy with a constant flow of busses and general traffic. We had to shut all of the windows when we slept and the noise still kept us awake. We did not sleep well at all.- Bedsheets were stained with small brown dots in multiple places.- Both the mugs and glasses provided were dirty.- When we left at 8am on Sunday morning the reception was closed so there was no one for me to voice this feedback to in person.

It was located not too far from where I work and close to river walks, the shopping centre, train and bus routes and has it's own car park for guests. All in all it's location covers all modes of transport. The staff were very polite and helpful, rooms were of a good size with normal provision's and clean and tidy. With easy check in and book out easy to recommend.

Room decor and furniture was a little tired

9UnknownPosted on: 8-13-2022

Just a short walk to the high street, big windows that we could open on the hottest weekend of the year, clean and spacious room

Took a while to figure out how to open the windows as there were two layers of windows with a latch, there could have been a fan provided

1CraigPosted on: 8-10-2022

it was rubbish would not recommend to anyone.

the staff was completely rude no help what so ever!! my room was round about 38 degrees they would not supply a fan or nothing
