The Deluxe Suite is of amazing dimensions, very comfortable and cozy. The hotel decoration is amazing and lots of history to learn by staying there. The location was absolutely perfect.

We spent Valentine's day/night and on arrival we were informed by the receptionist at the time they had to hold/pre-authorise £50. This was a surprise to us as, at least for us, this is not current practice when we check in. Asked if this was mandatory and was told that it was to cover any room service requests and.....any damages potentially incurred in the room during our stay. Asked if this was stated on the booking details as we couldn't see any of this stated when we booked. I was told it was. Later I have checked and it is indeed there under the policies, however. Barely noticeable as you have to search for it. At the time I have asked again if this was mandatory as we were not interested on any room service and wouldn't mind paying any drinks or foods at the time of ordering. It was then mentioned that they could " skip" this and asked us to pay in advance the car parking at the time of check in when we were told by another staff member earlier that day that we would pay for the parking on check out.Furthermore, at the time of check out we have asked if we could leave the car at the car park for an hour or two or if we had to leave and drive immediately . We were told by the receptionist Lexi, that we had to leave and drive NOW.In summary, we have booked and been in several hotels all over the world. Some great experiences, others not so great as can be expected. Nonetheless, there are clear differences on what makes a hotel be better than others and I'm not referring only to the quality of the facilities. The human component and clear and balanced customer service makes a whole difference. It is really hard to measure this but we left feeling that the human approach, warmth and dedication towards us were missing, despite the really good and comfortable stay at this hotel.

    The room was very comfy.

Couldn't get any TV channels, as we had to have a sign in.The shower could have more pressure.

The building, the wisteria, history and central location in taunton was brilliant. The staff were attentive, kind and helpful. Spotlessly clean.

Small tweaks would elevate the experience. A nespresso machine in each room v packet coffee for instance. Some spare amenities on reception for guests for example who forget their toothbrush (like me), for the price you would have hoped that could have been resolved easily and helpfully. The breakfast was okay, nothing special for the £17 charge (better options up the road at The Boston Tea Party for the price)

I booked this hotel due to the location close to The Cosy Club where I was attending a party. The hotel is a very nice old style hotel. The room was lovely and the staff were very helpful. The car park at the front would be very useful but I got a lift in.

    Everything was very nice.

I liked the history of the place. Comfortable room with quality furniture in good condition. Lovely public rooms. The restaurant was being refurbished during our visit. Breakfast was excellent.

We had a standard room which was smaller than anticipated with a double bed rather than a king size. We would opt for a superior room next time but the bed was comfortable.

    Great location and comfortable room

I chose this hotel for its location and its restaurant, having checked the menu online I had arranged to meet my son there to eat. On checking in I was informed the restaurant was shut all week for renovations. They had intended informing everyone who was booked during that time but had not done so.The rooms have little sound proofing and my neighbours talked at full voice well into the night.

Beautiful hotel, in an ideal location for Taunton Town centre. Good furnishings and fittings throughout the hotel. The Castle has lots of character. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Shaving socket in the bathroom not working (I should have reported that). Monday morning I was woken up by the bin lorries I was in a room in the first floor, overlooking the courtyard.

Quintessentially English, grand old hotel with spacious and comfortable suites.

Frustrating shower-gel and shampoo dispensers. Minor thing but annoying nonetheless.

Beautiful property in a great location. Our room was really spacious and comfortable.

    7NoelPosted on: 12-2-2025

Good location for me with car park, my room was average.

There was not a good restaurant, just a cafe type environment or meals at the bar, for such a hotel I expected much better.

Great location and a large room. The staff were very nice and helpful . Good parking and breakfast

There was nothing of note to report to complain about

    Excellent service at Sunday lunch

The noise outside our room from youngsters until 3am

Size of room and furnishings. Excellent breakfast. Excellent lounge facility. This is something that is becoming less common it hotels. We like a lounge rather than being confined to a bedroom.

End of October and our room was cold. The central heating was off and we were provided with an electric connector heater, which was off when we arrived. It took quite a while to warm the room.Car parking as an extra charge when already paying a good price for the accommodation.

Nice decor in castle garden rooms

Radiators not working - single electric heater provided

    Small room a bit dusty.
