    Pros +

    • The room was lovely with great views of the surrounding countryside. The staff were wonderful even carrying my heavy suitcase upstairs to my room. Breakfast was wonderful and very flavorsome.
    • Everything. I am an old man who has traveled a lot and stayed and eaten at hundreds if not thousands of places throughout the UK. In every regard, this place tops the lot across every category. Faultless and amazing value for money. I will be raving about Jack Russell to everyone I know and anyone else who will listen!
    • This is a hidden gem! Beautiful boutique hotel with a cute dog theme. Each space in this historic building has been beautifully decorated. There are loads of nice extra touches; gifts for your dog along with a Polaroid camera to take pictures for the pet guest book, a beautiful outdoor covered fire lounge area, well maintained gardens. The dining and indoor spaces are lovely. Very good breakfast. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds, bathrooms are gorgeous with high end soaps and products. There is a great selection of teas. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

    Cons -

    • Not the hotels fault but it rained a lot and all the time.
    • It was out of the way, down a bunch of secondary roads but worth it!
    • Country setting was beautiful. Food was great.

Staff delivered excellent professional but friendly customer service. Modern room/shower with Dyson oscillating fan a plus! Very close to Highclere Castle. Variety of outdoor seating available to relax. Dinner and breakfast were very delicious with the latter included in our room rate. Would definitely return.

Very charming hotel in a gorgeous setting, located only 20 minutes away from Highclere Castle/Downton Abbey. We stayed in the Dog House and both our rooms were spacious, beautifully decorated and well appointed, with gorgeous views on the hotel grounds. Comfortable beds, good quality bedding and towels, incredible attention to details, friendly staff, nice dinner and wonderful breakfast. Everything was perfect. We also loved the fact that the hotel is dog friendly, (even though we didn't have our dog with us).

Nothing, it was perfect, I wish we could have stayed longer.

Everything about this stay was superb. On arrival, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our room was deluxe with roll top bath and a small seating area, looking over a field. (Late evening star gazing recommended). Shower, bath, bed were all fabulous. We ate at the pub and what a treat. From pre-drinks in the comfy bar area and into the restaurant where the service was excellent. We had chateaubriand which felt like a feast with perfectly cooked steak and separately served sides. Lovely.

    All fabulous.

This is a very well run pub and hotel. Grounds and location were delightful. Room was lovely, over looking fields, with evening sunshine and birdsong. Very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. Very happy we chose the Jack Russel.

Our Sunday roast dinner was not bad but the Bakewell Tart desert was disappointing.

Beautiful and such lovely a big room with beautiful views.

Soft pillows which were lovely but I need support so would recommend you take your pillow if you need support.

It was the most beautiful place. Our room was exceptional and we couldn't have been happier. The view from our room was breathtaking. We could have sat with our drinks and gazed out all day

It's so hard to find anything wrong at all. From a ladies point of view I could have done with one mirror that had better lighting as it wasn't easy to do my make up, but that's the only niggle I had and certainly would not stop me coming back

Attractive property with good food and drink, in a lovely location

Room was way too hot. The bathroom towel rail was blasting out heat overnight but we didn’t know how to turn it off. Made sleeping quite difficult.

We stayed at the JR for my birthday. We enjoyed the surroundings and the garden was beautiful. We also visited the church, which was lovely. The food was good but, for the price, was lacking. The staff were really courteous and diligent, both at dinner and breakfast. The room was stocked with lots of extras, all at additional cost, which we did not use, for that reason. Longlife milk portions would be better, as we had to keep asking for more as there was no sensible way to store it. We did not sleep very well, as the mattress was so hard and sunken from regular use. Overall our visit was OK, but we would not visit again.
