About
Elcot Park Hotel has undergone a complete refurbishment and is relaunching as ‘The Retreat’; a newly re-imaged 18th-century country house hotel and community beacon, set in 16 acres of magnificent grounds, and located between Hungerford and Newbury in the heart of the beautiful West Berkshire countryside with breath-taking views across the Kennet valley. Joining its riverside cousin, The Miter at Hampton Court, The Retreat is the second hotel by the acclaimed Signet Collection, and is home to 55 individually-styled bedrooms and suites, two fantastic eating & drinking experiences, Yu; our pan-Asian restaurant and 1772, our all-day dining Brasserie and The Signet Spa, an expansive health club with hydrotherapy pools, treatment rooms, steam & sauna, gym, spin studio and wellness area. Within the hotel grounds there is a walled working garden, tennis court, an outdoor infinity pool, croquet lawn and a children’s zone. "The Courtyard is a mixed use space with deli and and hair salon". The Retreat is a place to relax by the log fire, enjoy great food & drink, stay over in stylish and comfortable bedrooms, go for a dip and sink into a comfortable sofa with a glass of something. Careful use of antiques and playful use of textures and art lend soulfulness to give the Retreat its unique country casual character.

Pros +
- Front of house staff excellent.
- The food was outstanding. The best roast we’ve ever had! Breakfast was also lovely with lots of choice. The spa was excellent and the staff were super welcoming and helpful.
- We had a wonderful 'Mum and daughter' spa break at Elcot Park! The countryside setting is beautiful, and during our stay we took advantage of the hotel's walking guide (and wellies which can be borrowed - great touch!) to explore. I loved the heated outdoor pool for a morning swim before breakfast, which we both agreed was excellent. Our rooms was very comfortable and spotless. We dined in both the onsite restaurants and would recommend this. The service from staff was unfailingly warm, helpful and professsional. An exceptional experience all round. We'd love to return sometime!
Cons -
- Really couldn’t fault this hotel! The only very minor thing I didn’t like were the pillows. We felt they was very thin and not comfortable to sleep on. The bed however was very comfortable.
- Cleanliness and where our room was situated there was a lot of additional noise.
- Hot water seemed limited in the evening Charging extra for using facilities such as the hot tubsSpa for very busy in the afternoonBeds could have been more comfortable

Staff were very good, couldn’t be more friendly and helpful.
Cleanliness and where our room was situated there was a lot of additional noise.
Beautiful setting, lovely spacious room, loved the extra touches like dressing gowns and slippers in the room and the oat milk and pantry!Loved having a choice of restaurants

Great staff. Beautiful property. Interior design was stunning. Food delicious. Cocktails next level.
Hot tubs were out of order when we went. Unfortunately the rooms don’t block out sound from the corridors so probably not ideal for people with young families trying to sleep.
Nice location / grounds
Rooms felt dated, little bit scruffy in places, spa had a bad smell and floor was dirty, needs better maintenance. Room service finishes at 8.30pm, which is way too early.
The spa and massage facilities
The breakfast was chaotic every morning. It was self-serve, and there were too many people squeezed into the room and not enough staff.
Beautiful decor and decoration. Staff well trained and friendly. Everything g clean and beautifully kept. Lovely extra touches

The spa facilities and decor
Poor comms prior to checking in. Emailed and called several times to book a table with no response. Food is massively overpriced and average in quality.
The property and grounds are lovely The main building is immaculately presented The sitting areas were warm, cosy and a lovely place to be
The spa although nice and very well equipped needs attention re cleanliness Hair and debris needs keeping on top ofThe showers had mildew in the tiles and again hair and debris on the floorsJust alittle more attention in that area is our only fault
The entire experience was exceptional. The staff were really friendly, the hotel and grounds were lovely, the room was spacious and comfy, the spa was great and the food at the Pan Asian restaurant was amazing. They have really thought about lots of little touches (such as the free snack rooms!).
I liked the decor of the rooms and the staff were friendly
The hydro pool was dirty around the edge and wasn’t cleaned even the day after. The steam room smelt of body odour
The food was very good and rooms lovely
Breakfast choice a bit limited7
Repeat stay. Returned with our young adult daughters after visiting 13 months ago. This hotel has so much to enjoy and it’s lovely to see more improvements each visit. The venue offers excellent service and facilities. Lovely entertainment of guitar singer in the evening. Bar staff very attentive and welcoming!Diner of mussels were the best I have had in the Uk! Venue is dog friendly which is a plus. Fabulous outdoor pool and spa facility. Bed linen and beds very comfy. Lovely decoration of the place. Excellent breakfast!
Booked to enjoy the Yu dining experience for lunch, and this reservation / option was changed and was served in the brasserie. This venue was busy due to half term with children and families, and maybe not quite the experience we had in mind as we were also having diner there that evening. (Yu being an adult only and more intimate option.) I must point out that the sushi served was so lovely and fresh though! Also maybe an idea of more towel hooks or something similar for guest to plop their books, towel and phones on, while enjoying the spa facilities, to not hog up all the spa beds for those that might like to use them.
We have stayed many times and book well in advance as we know our dates early. We always enjoy the spa and the little extra touches, a dog bed, biscuits, bowl, a homemade biscuit or two for us, a little tipple left as a treat.
Unfortunately this time the welcome felt a little flat. No niceties at all! We were also allocated an accessible room unexpectedly. It’s great that the hotel provides these rooms, but we hadn’t requested one and some features (very low basin, higher toilet, wet room shower, no full-length mirror) didn’t suit us. A quick check with us at booking would have solved it. Grateful that accessibility is catered for; we’d simply prefer to opt in rather than be assigned by default and we would have still liked a homemade biscuit
Our stay at the hotel was nothing short of incredible. From the moment we arrived, we was welcomed with warm hospitality and impeccable service. The rooms were beautifully maintained, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped, making it easy to relax and unwind. Every detail, from the ambiance to the amenities, exceeded our expectations. I left feeling truly refreshed and grateful for such an unforgettable experience. We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone.
staff amazing especially Leanne in the spa.
Our room wasnt cleaned but they were very apologetic
