We have stayed at H & H before really like the location
Room number 30 was a little overpriced and the room was missing some important small items .
had both dinner and then breakfast both were good. the room however, was pretty, but lacked space for placing toiletries needed for travel. and where you had to blowdry your hair was not easy.
Lovely decor, dog friendly. We had a lovely meal.
On the main road- super noisy, closed the window & room was too hot. Service was slow. Quite expensive. We ate in the garden terrace for dinner & breakfast. Loads of cigarette butts around & clearly not cleaned on a regular basis.
Very convenient to the airport and main roads into London as well as other sights we had come to see. The staff member who served breakfast and was also at the front desk both mornings was very efficient and helpful.
We were on the 3rd floor which meant a bit of a haul with our suitcases and it was quite warm at night. The property wasn’t full so I’m not sure why we were put upstairs instead of one of the other rooms either on the lower floors or out in the annex. Probably because of what we paid for our room. It said that it was a queen size bed but I believe that it was only a double.
Lovely rooms, excellent food and drink, friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere
Proximity to Newbury and the elderly family members we wanted to spend time with. Breakfast was very good as was the coffee.
We were given a disability room with wet bathroom. Awful. There is a severe lack of space to put things. No shelving or hooks for toilet bags etc in the bathroom. The shower head was blocked. The hairdryer did not have a long enough lead to do your hair in front of a mirror which by the way the light near it wasn’t working. The bed linen etc was clean but general cleaning vacuuming and the dirt on the window sill absolutely appalling. For the cost of the room it should be a lot better. We are currently staying in a number of pubs in various parts of the UK - rated similarly to the Hare & Hounds and they are roughly 50 to 60 pounds less a night for similarly small rooms but more thoughtfully set out.
A hidden gem!what a lovely place!staff were all super friendly and helpful!we decided to use the hotel upon returning to the uk from Spain! It was father's day and the hotel had sold out of food!I'm not surprised it looked fantastic, but the staff helped us order food into the hotel and allowed us to sit with our pizza in the bar! It's a beautiful renovation of an old bar and outbuildings, very dog friendly!Alex the manager is a diamond!it will undoubtedly be a regular stop for us on route to and from Portsmouth!Lovely breakfast which we couldn't fault!and the argentine lady in the restaurant even presented our dog with a sausage lol she's got a friend for life!Thank you so much for the wonderful stay folks!See you soon!
Meals were excellent.
The road to the hotel from one side was closed and the diversion signs were useless, the hotel could have warned guests that the road closure was in place and give advice on the best route to the hotel.
The location, Speen is on the edge of Newbury and was easy to walk around. Enjoyed after dinner strolls. The food was good.
The bedroom was very small for a couple.
The bed was big and very comfortable with great pillows. The best we had on our trip! The staff were pleasant and helpful especially James. The food in the restaurant was very good. The location was good even though not as close to A34 due to road closure.
The room did not have air conditioning and was quite warm even with two fans. We were in Room 21 in the Pasture annex. When we arrived we noticed water in the shower and the shower rug was drenched. James came and looked at it and thought it was resolved but it was not. During the night water came out of the shower head even though it was turned off in the room. It appeared from the look of the shower stall that this has been an ongoing problem. The rug in the room was very stained.
Bed is comfortable.
Staff is not around at the reception desk, the smell of the dog.
Lovely decor and nice touches I.e. robes, gin sample.
Food expensive and not great. Not much atmosphere.
breakfast was good
noise in room at nightyou appeared to say I could have a bath with my stay - your request, we will not charge you extra and then followed up a few hours later saying no bath.
Really comfortable bed, organic tea, nespresso machine, good qualitative shampoo, nice hairdryer, nice parking, great lighting
Noisy, it feels like only rich people can come there, hard towels and not too sure how to use heating
Great restaurant and room
Couldn’t get the temperature down in the room
The decor and the staff were great.
We were in 17 and it was two beds put together which wasn't comfortable for us and it was one of the adjoining rooms so we could hear next door and they prob heard us! The description said soundproof rooms.
The Hare and Hounds was a wonderful surprise. They have done a fantastic job with the rooms, they are colourful and quirky - and comfortable. The wifi was fast and reliable.
Fabulous room and meals , excellent decor.
The bin in the bathroom was not emptied from the last guests.
