    Pros +

    • The welcome from the staff is always amazing. They remembered us even though we probably hadn?t been back for 11 years or so. Breakfast is hearty and now fully included in the rate. Beds were very comfortable.
    • The leisure facilities were open until late evening. & the property was warm. The receptionist was very polite and informative and was greeted with a friendly, happy spirit.
    • The location is beautiful, and I loved that we had a riverside room.

    Cons -

    • Plumbing in the old side of the hotel is quite dubious. We had hot water coming out of both the hot and cold taps. The stairs are quite challenging. The superior room had a bath and hand-held shower. Ask for the newer side of the hotel
    • The walls had evidence of damp running down them, Tiles missing from jacuzzi which was rather off putting and refrained from using.we had a 1st floor bedroom and the floor boards were extremely squeaky which were frustrating. Overall the property is crying out for investment/refurbishment Sunday morning breakfast the waitress was extremely abrupt and had an attitude like she didn’t want to be there, she wasn’t very welcoming!.
    • We paid for a superior room, when we arrived it looked lovely, but that soon changed on closer inspection. Our queen size bed was just 2 single beds pushed together, the mattresses we so soft you could feel every spring. In the bathroom there was marks on the shower curtain, the shower curtain pole was full of rust and all in all the bathroom needed resealing. There was mould all around the window and on the net curtains, and the room was very drafty, the windows definitely needed replacing. We used the swimming pool, but didn't stay in there long as the walls of the pool were filthy.

Lovely location. Comfortable bed. Staff friendly and apologetic when complaints raised.

Hotel needs updating. Some areas scruffy and tired. Executive suite very basic. One small shower gel provided - had to ask for more. No longer robes or slippers in rooms unless spa treatment booked. Generally not worth the money. Restaurant very disappointing. Had been told we could have a light lunch /snack on Sunday but when we arrived we were told only Sunday lunch available. Asked for a sandwich or similar but were told this was not possible and were offered starters from main menu. Have stayed and eaten here several times before but standard of food and value for money has gone down.

    Lovely location and amazing food

    Very tired rooms

Great position. Easily reached. Spa just made it special. Good breakfast too.

Some decor a bit tired but very acceptable for the price

Food was amazing, hotel was comfy and warm and has everything you need.

Evening meal was excellent - both the food and the serving staff. The evening meal was the best thing about my stay. The spa was nice, and it wasn’t too busy. Pool was more than adequate and was a good temperature. Sauna, steam room, and hot tub were good.

Room was a bit lacking, especially the bathroom, which needed a repaint and would have benefitted from a proper shower. Bar area felt rather dated, but the food and staff more than made up for this, on balance.

    Breakfast was excellent.Dinner was excellent.

Bathroom in poor condition.Shower cubicle very small and dirty with mould.Apartment very stuffy.Very basic furniture.TV in the sitting area was not working.Black spots on the duvet cover.

Location, ambience and friendliness of staff, the food was superb, and log fires made it so cosy, thanks once again Del & Ian

After a long drive and a full day of hiking in the mountains it was a like heaven to get there take a bath and crash out. Id been travelling for a log time before checking in so skipped dinner and went for breakfast. Amazing food and great service. I do like a hotel with tea making facilities in the room, always a plus for me .I'll be back here again soon. .

The room looked a bit dated but that wasn't a showstopper

Excellent breakfast and evening meal. Staff were very friendly throughout the hotel. We would definitely go back for a return visit.

Spa area slightly tired. Used towels piled up in changing room - although clients should have placed them in the large container in the corridor, they had clearly not done so and I would have expected a staff member to check this on a regular basis. Our room needed some maintenance tweaks eg the windowsill . Although the bar area was cosy, it felt as though it needed some fresh eyes to make it more pleasant for a drink after dinner.

Food was ok location is nice!

Updated in the sweet old and dated no fudge to store cold drinks or refreshments ! Jacuzzi was broken bits falling off not working properly! Staff did not know their own menu and was left waiting ages to be served or seen to at the table so not very professional at all

    Good size pool

No shower in room other than bath tap fitting with no screen, curtain or wall mount.

Breakfast was amazing, staff were really friendly and great with my 3 year old

    A menu with more choice

    8SarahPosted on: 1-4-2026

The service and breakfast was excellent . Bar staff very helpful. The pool is a good size

There was a hole at the bottom of the pool and the jacuzzi could have been warmer .

    1JoshPosted on: 1-2-2026

The breakfast was very basic, but it was okay

After I checked in and upon arrival to my bedroom, it smell of cigarettes like somebody had been smoking in the bedroom. The latch that normally stops you from opening the window fully had been broken, indicating someone had been smoking in the bedroom. When I had a shower, the shower rail fell apart and the showerhead was leaking. The hot tub was freezing cold, the swimming pool was also freezing cold would not recommend.

    1AndrewsPosted on: 1-2-2026

Location was perfect for our stay

The septic tank was emptied at 7:20 in the morning causing our room to smell like a sewer !

    7TomPosted on: 12-30-2025

The food and restaurant was lovely, and staff were cheerful and friendly.

It feels as if it hasn’t been updated or looked after properly in over 20 years. There was no where to hang coats in the room. The “king size” bed was two very well used mattresses put together. There was urine left in the toilet when we first checked in. The swimming pool had holes in the bottom of it. The jacuzzi had little to no tiling left, and the buttons didn’t work. There is nowhere you can get to by foot, everything is only accessible by car or the rare public transport.
