    Pros +

    • The staff and landlady were very polite and helpful and they were very professional. The food was exceptional and service in restraunt was great
    • Great size room, lovely pub with real fire in the bar. Free pool table. Spacious parking, great location for hiking
    • Decent sized twin room with more than adequate facilities. Tea, Coffee, TV etc. Bathroom was clean and a decent size, but the shower was a bit on the small side. Breakfast was perfect with lots of choice. Staff were friendly and helpful.

    Cons -

    • The shower was cold when we got there at 5.30 pm so couldn't shower to go for tea but next morning the water was nice and hot
    • We found the underfloor heating in the bathroom (room 10) extremely hot, and could definitely do with being turned down (we had no access to the controls). Some probably don't mind this, but we sleep hot and it also made the rest of the room very stuffy...
    • Most people know this before booking, as they only stay there to break up their travels, but the location is pretty much in the middle of nowhere, on a main road. The pub / hotel is all there is in terms of local amenities, unless you wish to take a £15 taxi to Holmfirth.

Very warm welcome and accomodating. Great atmosphere in the evening , and obviously the fantastic Jean on keyboard

Limited vegetarian options for the evening meal, though breakfast was catered for

The location was easy to get to, the decor was tastefully done and in keeping with the original property.

We couldn’t find it from the information we had. The post code took us to the wrong location. We noticed you have what three words on your business cards. Would have been useful to have this on the booking instructions.

    Excellent breakfast. Quiet room.

Bedside light inadequate for reading. Walk-in or cabinet shower required for the less mobile.

We were very well looked after on our night's stay. We'd been walking and our hosts kindly helped to wash some clothes for us, gave us a lovely meal and were flexible on breakfast times in the morning so we could get going early!

I thought the staff where very polite and made you feel welcome.

Only thing I didn’t like was it was a bit warm in the room but the heating was set and couldn’t be turned down.

    9StevenPosted on: 9-27-2025

Guinness, Pie and log fires and friendly staff

    Skylight has no curtain/black out

Despite arriving dripping wet through and leaving a trail of water across the floor we were given a warm welcome and shown promptly to our room so we could get dry and warm. The location was wonderful and the building was full of charm and character. The rooms were modern, clean and very comfortable. The owner was really friendly and helpful and dealt with some of unusual cycle related requests without hesitation.During our brief stay we met bar staff, waiting staff and cleaning staff and all were very friendly and professional. The evening meal and the breakfast were excellent. The Dog and Partridge was the accommodation highlight of our trip.

    Comfy warm rooms

Bit disappointed not to get the full country pub experience as not open to non residents on the night we stayed.
