Pros +
- The room was clean and a good size.
- Didn’t stay
- The entrance to the property and the private grounds are lovely.
Cons -
- Function rooms and corridors, decor dated.
- Arrived and staff were friendly booked in and headed to my room there was buckets on the main staircase from flooding and continued to my room through a couple of corridors and when I got to the final corridor door when I opened it the smell hit me and as I walked to my room which was the first one the carpet squelched as I walked on it.When I got in my room I sat on the mattress which was only fit for a skip,I tried another room but decided to leave and find somewhere else.Sometimes roofs leak but the smell in the corridor this problem has been going on for a whileNot good at all.
- Upon arrival at 8:30pm asked for food as they served until 9pm, they had shut the kitchen so no options of food. Asked to get a drink from the bar, that had also been closed, so no options of food or drink. Walking up to the room there were buckets of water catching it from a leaking roof, dehumidifiers in the corridor and wet carpets due to a leaking roof again. The room was average, bathroom was ok, ceiling had damp patches and unpainted areas and wallpaper peeling off. The bed was ok and other than that the room was fairly clean.

Location is great the grounds are stunning and the pub at the end of the road is absolutely stunning.
The booking said free cot upon request we were then Charged £10 for it on arrival- but that's my only negative comment about the experience.
Free parking outside
Room was divided by a door to another room which has no soundproofing
The helpful and friendly staff, the beautiful location and grand exterior of the hotel are all very impressive. The room although small was clean and comfortable, the food in the bar area tasty and well cooked. with minimal wait time.
It not a case of did not like anything, but rather awareness that this is an older hotel that was formerly a stately home. it now a bit tired in places and in need of renovation. But its clean, warm, comfortable with friendly and helpful staff
Location. / Excellent breakfast / comfortable bed / . WI-FI / warm / clean / price .
Room needed updating and TLC , Peeling paint on wall in room , small for size of bed , tiny TV high on wall that could not receive BBC channels ,worn out TV remote , no plugs to charge phone , room in remote location in building .
Beautiful, historic building with stunning gardens. Nice breakfast.
Lots of roof leaks and dehumidifiers all night.
Dinner and friendly staff.
Room and bed small (asked for a large bed when booking). Bathroom very cold ( heating didn’t work).
Check in helpful location, beds comfy. Great character
Noisy toilet, maybe view out of front of building
The price for one night stay and the staff
The dehumidifier running all night in the hallway & the buckets collecting water from the leaking roof at the top of the stairs
The reception staff were very helpful - we forgot a phone charger and they provided us with one. The bar was cosy and welcoming. The bed was very comfortable.
Our room overlooked the car park and I was woken by someone leaving very early.
The location is great.. lovely old building but is in need of some ££'s to bring it to where it deserves to be. .
My room was very small. The shower cubicle has to be the smallest and the shower head needed a good clean..Also it was a little cold at night
I was able to park my car right outside the door. Tables in the breakfast room were beautifully laid. Modern fixtures in bathroom (shower/taps/sinks). Surrounding gardens were exquisite. Lovely biscuits in the bedroom, these were replaced on the second night stay. Lovely toiletries/products. Bed was clean and very comfortable.
I was allocated a family room, which contained 3 beds (i was travelling alone). Bedroom window looked out onto a brick wall, despite building being set in lovely grounds and paying full cost for room. There was no mirror in the bedroom, so I was unable to style my hair with ease. Quality of coffee was poor/weak (I had asked for a filter coffee). Continental items for breakfast were located in one room and the cooked breakfast/buffet was in another room - could be set up more efficiently. Breakfast was £20 and not value for money; limited choices for what it cost. Room/building was cold. Couldnt lock the bedroom door from the inside. Evening meal was disappointing and not value for money.
Did not have breakfast a bit too expensive
Hotel is beautiful just think food and bar prices are a little too high
I would not recommend staying...
The room was beyond substandard, it was freezing cold, below basic with mould in the bathroom which wasn’t cleaned during our stay. Only fan heaters to warm the room, old wooden shutters to the window that wouldn’t shut properly letting the cold in and flaking paint around the windows. The bed had no bedhead and grubby sheets and quilt cover which had a hair on it. The whole place was freezing cold including the breakfast room, the luke warm breakfast items were left under the lamps to go rubbery and not changed or replaced. Certainly not worth the £60 we paid for two breakfasts on each of our two night stay. The whole place was a big disappointment and in need of a total refurbishment. I commented on the state of the room took reception and she said she would pass it on the the Manager but we never heard anything back from him. It was a shame because we were there for wedding between Christmas and NewYear and the state of the room took the shine away from the lovely wedding we were attending.
It is a beautiful old hotel which has retained it's character.
The weather was really bad with snow and ice and the road up to the hotel was very icy as it would appear it had not been gritted.
Good
Very cold bathroom. Towel rail way too small for the large bathroom.
Clean bed
The bed sheet , pillow and blanket didn't seem clean
Wedding coordinator was lovely
Tired in placesDirty black seals in bathroomBreakfast not value for money
