Pros +
- Breakfast was spot on. More than enough and nice and fresh
- Location OK but extensive roadworks outside hotel made things awkward locating Hotel due to diversion, would have liked to have been forwarded before arrival!!
- Positives:Good parking, breakfast was nice but limited, *mainly* kind staff and the pub food was tasty.
Cons -
- Found the door key a bit fiddly
- Room given was quite chilly no way to adjust heating. Very dusty around radiator, curtain hems had come down. No extra bedding when I asked at reception re this 2 was told that would be supplied if needed, should have been in room. It is February !!
- Negatives:On arrival, I was asked for a £50 deposit via a physical card, despite having already paid in full online. This requirement was only mentioned in small print on the Booking.com confirmation page under “view more,” making it easy to miss and not clearly communicated in advance. I didn’t have a physical card. I also witnessed several other guests being surprised by this requirement at check-in, suggesting this is a recurring issue rather than an isolated misunderstanding. When I queried this, the female staff member dealing with the issue was condescending and stated that “most hotels work like this,” which did not reflect my experience and was not helpful in resolving the situation. I was initially told I could not check in without a physical card, but this was later authorised using Apple Pay after I mentioned requesting a full refund. This inconsistency added unnecessary stress after a long journey. The room was cold and there was no thermostat or clear way to control the heating. Although staff provided an extra duvet and acknowledged the temperature, the room remained uncomfortable, and showering in the cold room was unpleasant. The hotel was full so I could not be moved. The room also had several visible defects, giving the impression that it was not well maintained. I took photos on arrival to avoid any issues with the £50 deposit. There was no fridge, the telephone was broken and my room key (card) continuously stopped working when I left the room, needing reactivation at reception - even when I went out of my way to avoid contact with my phone.During the night, the fire alarm sounded around 2:30am. Guests appeared to self-evacuate to the lobby without any staff directing or management of the situation. The person at the reception desk (possibly the manager) remained on the phone, which added to the confusion. Guests were not asked to go outside, and there was no visible sign of a fire.

Breakfast lovely and staff excellent
Fire alarm set off 1 person at desk had to deal with all and basically no help or assistance. Room was death and reported just a blanket put on ledge not very good
Nice fried breakfast, but also cereal. Pastries also
Good location, although on- going roadworks make access very difficult. Very clean and well presented in public areas downstairs. Good breakfast.
Rooms were rather tired. Mattress was uncomfortable.
Clean tidy with friendly staff
Road works outside the hotel
Easy to find, helpful friendly staff, easy & quick to book in, nice room & breakfast. Great price too
Roadworks right outside was a pain having to wait ages in traffic, but not hotels fault
Very good breakfast and Chef v kind to provide a cooked breakfast even tho the breakfast was nearly over. Thank you Chef
it was a bit cold in the room but maybe that was me and the thermostat
Excellent stay and great value for money.Breakfast was lovely and plenty of choice. The room was clean, had everything we could need and the beds were very comfortable! No noise In our room despite the roadworks outside the hotel. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Special mention to Louise and the lady serving breakfast on 27th January. Both were very kind, caring and helpful towards my mam who was ill during our stay. They were a credit to the hotel. We would definitely stay again in the future as the location is great for visiting family but also not too far out of the city centre
Location was ideal. Breakfast was good, staff were helpful and pleasant.
Bed mattress was lumpy with springs and quite uncomfortable. Bathroom needed a refurbishment. Overall, the room looked tired and needs a refresh.
Excellent staff. Lovely bar. Comfy bed. Brilliant all round. Will be back
I could only stay 1 night
The hotel was well located for the purpose of our visit and has free car parking on site.
Our room was cold on arrival and despite asking staff for a heater nothing was done to improve the situation. Staff were not over friendly or helpful with one or two exceptions but we assume this is because of under-staffing as we often had to wait for someone to attend reception or the bar. Our room was not serviced during our two night stay. Finally, facilities are poor as there was no residents lounge area (other than reception) and the bar closes at 10:30
Clean & tidy. Close to where we needed to go.
Requested early check in - ended up having to get changed in toilets as this wasn’t available once we arrived. Smoke alarm went off 3 times in the night for no apparent reason. Emailed the hotel a week ago & no reply as of yet. Won’t stay at this hotel again due to this
Staff where friendly, breakfast was ok would of preferred the opion of fried egg (only scrambled available)
When we arrived the room was cold. Rang reception they told us how to turn the heating on. Tried to do that but didn't work. Someone from reception came up after we rang again. He said he couldnt fix it so would bring up a heater. The heater never came also the tv did not work and we couldnt get WiFi in the room. Not good when you have kids with you. We stayed at the hotel as we were at the new year's eve party there. If it wasn't for the party I would have left and asked for my money back.
Restaurant and downstairs was OK.
The rooms were dark drab and badly need decorated not pleasant at all.
Clean and I liked the room.
The restaurant randomly closes before closing time without letting you know in advance.
Friendly staff, very clean room and food in the restaurant was excellent
The staff were very welcoming. The hotel is a little tired around the edges but you can see that they are making improvements.
No shower gel in the bathroom
Location to the racecourse. Bar area and service was very good.
Breakfast set up. Told to move tables as they were set up for the evening when a breakfast menu on the available tables would have told people where to sit.
