Pros +
- Location /staff
- Proximity to Lord Street and the Esplanade. The staff were friendly and helpful.
- Disappointing.
Cons -
- Long walk to our room. Only the main entrance for everyone coming and going. It took ages and wasted lots of water before the shower etc ran the water hot.Paid for parking needs to be made clearer when booking.
- Receptionist wasn't particularly friendly on arrival. We were allocated a room on the 3rd floor despite the fact that the lift only goes to the second. I was told by the receptionist to take the stairs but not which stairs. Out of the lift, the closest stairs appeared to be to the left but we soon discovered, after noticing the lack of light and carpet, that these were the wrong stairs. We seemed to be heading to a deserted attic! Finally found the correct staircase and our room. The room was cold and uninspiring - looking out onto West Street and the noisy night clubs. Needless to say our sleep was disturbed..This used to be a classy hotel. Why has it been allowed to deteriorate?
- The Pillows were uncomfortable without an extra's available. The room was too warm and right next dooe to a outside fan so we couldn't open the window due to the noise. This meant that sleeping was a challenge. There were lots of smokers gathered at the entrance door which you have to walk through everytime coming in and out of the hotel.

Clean comfortable room
Before arriving I asked for a menu for that evening but one was not available when I arrived there was still no menu visible anywhere these should be put out on display to encourage guests to dine in the hotel and enjoy thete stay more conveniently
Our stay was fantastic they decorated our mother's room as it was her 80th, there should of been a charge but I had trouble trying to make the request..by phoning and emails so they did it free..would defo go back
Over priced bar prices and had to wait a while as only one on the bar
The hotel was lovely and the staff were helpful and friendly, the room was very clean and comfortable.
our particular room was situated at the rear of the hotel at the far end from the reception, situated a few hundred yards to the rear of the hotel is a nightclub that plays loud music till 6 o'clock in the morning making sleep rather difficult.
The location. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was clean and comfortable.
Nothing not to like.
The hotel may look scruffy from outside but the interior is very comfortable and the bedrooms are very modern and spacious. The hotel is situated directly in front of the leisure gardens with great views across to the pier.
The lift was a bit shaky and needs to be cleaned up.
Staff were excellent and even upgraded our rooms which were excellent, location good. Food in the evening was good as was breakfast
Central position, large rooms some with king beds just needs renovations.
Bedding not up to standards.
This is a proper old fashioned hotel, unlike the modern 'box' hotels. It has a large lounge area with comfy leather seats, bar, large ballroom/function room, wide corridors and, if you choose to use the stairs, these are wide and quite impressive in themselves. My room was clean, a decent size and had a large bathroom. Breakfast was as you would expect and great value. There is also cheap parking on site. All in all, I don't know why you wouldn't stay at the Royal Clifton, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Southport.
Nothing much really.
Check in was seamless, we got into our room early, Breakfast was super tasty.
Evrything was great.
Good value hotel. Simple accommodation but can't expect much more for the price we paid. Location excellent, with convenient (paid) parking on site.
Check-in process was slow due to issue with computer system and night/evening staff unable to log in.
Nice location
Took about a hour and a half to get hot water through to run a bath which then took another half hour to fill shower was a dribble of water and could not adjust the shower head water pressure was horrendous all drainage was pouring out of the pipes due to being blocked WiFi was rubbish
Close to all the main attractions of Southport
Our room in particular was next to the ballroom, with no fire doors intervening, which held an extremely noisy kareoke evening with the doors open so people could access the bar and toilets. This resulted in loud noise reaching our ‘family room’ until after 11pm which isn’t ideal with a small child.
Breakfast great but ni hot water in room and having to pay for parking being a Blu badge holder
As above or comment
cold room
No heating, two portable heaters in the wardrobe were useless
Excellent food nice staff secure parking room spotlessly clean lovely all you can eat breakfast
