    • Beautiful old Tudor building In the centre of town
    • The unique building
    • Location was excellent. Staff were cheerful and very helpful. We had both breakfast and dinner which were both very good.

    Cons -

    • Very noisy from the bar and streetUnhelpful staffReception is in the bar, drunk people falling over and shouting was intimidating whilst I was checking in.
    • On arrival. Trying to check in,had to shout because of EXTREMELY loud music. 7.30 on a Saturday night, very drunk people, young children running around in bar. If we hadn’t already paid, we would have left then. Got to room TV not working, broken window, bedroom furniture in need of upgrade. State of room Poor, request for another room denied!! Red wine kept in chiller!!crisps £3 packet. Staff clueless, many other issues including poor maintenance..The list goes on. Recommend you do not stay here.
    • Room was clean and tidy but there is a light in the ally alongside the hotel that is on all night and even with the curtains closed it illuminates the room. prior to the stay I was informed that my room had been upgraded to a Four Poster Suit. Given the key to a regular double room on arrival, questioned the desk staff only to be told that I had the room I had originally booked and the Four Poster Suit had been booked by someone else. I fully appreciate that I had been offered something at no extra cost, but it would have been nice to know about the change before arriving. Valentine surprise for my Wife ruined. ( The Four Poster Suit didn't show as available when I made my original booking )

    Meals were fairly good

Bed was too low and you could feel the struts on the base. The duvet cover was torn at the bottomThe room badly needs decoratingThe lights in the bathroom were not all in working order. There was only one chair in the roomThere is no lift and my wife found it difficult to climb the stairs

The hotel is steeped in historic features and is prominent within Gloucester City. We didn't have any negatives about the hotel, it's room or the staff. I would happily praise the staff for their polite and friendly approach to visitors and guests. We both slept really well also. The breakfast was served by a really friendly and polite younger chap who I would recommend for a more senior role when available as he would deserve it. Thank you all at The New Inn

    Great location. Quirky.

Room was a bit tired, good value for money.Car park is a public car park 150m away

Great location and very well placed to visit the cathedral and shops. Multi storey car park was also close. The historic Pilgrim history of the hotel was one of the reasons we booked in. The staff were friendly.

The entire hotel is based around steps. The external staircase to bedrooms was wet and slippy and there was no lift or help to carry heavy suitcases. The ground floor bar played loud music till late. The room was tired, dated and shabby. The furniture was old and worn and all needed to be replaced. The headboard was dirty and worn. The fabric to the only chair was threadbare and dirty. The curtains were narrower than the window so we could not close out the glare of artificial lighting. The view from the window was over a kitchen extract fan / ductwork which vibrated from 7 in the morning till late at night. The bed shook! Wall paper edges were torn, ceiling paper peeling. The bathroom had black mould around the edge of the bath, the bath panel was loose (never properly fixed back) and had swollen with water overspill. Grouting was missing from several tiles. There were no beakers or glass to drink from in the bathroom (when brushing teeth) Our room was also behind a public toilet on the first floor. This was disruptive to sleep and poor acoustics were generally a bit unpleasant! We would not stay at the New Inn again.

The pub is lovely and quaint. Lots of brilliant history. The breakfast was great. The morning staff were lovely. The location was very quiet even for a Saturday night. The bed was a lovely size and comfort. Good central location.

The room was overpriced - £90 for their smallest double with a tiny ensuite. Very dated and poorly decorated with odd mishmash of furniture, wall colours, cracks, peeling paint, the furniture at dangerous angles- a wardrobe threatening to tip over. The hairdryer in the bathroom was a dated wall mounted thing. The flooring was dangerously slippery in the bathroom. No shades on the lights. No full length mirror. No parking despite odd Google mentions of discounts at certain car parks. Just lots of little things building up to a disappointment.

Really interesting building. Room was comfortable. Nice shower. Staff really helpful.

The pillows!! They need replacing. The Wi-Fi. Couldn’t connect to it.

As a history nerd, I loved staying in a place with so much history! If you are looking for a modern hotel, this place is not for you. It was built in the 1500s, so this place has history, ghost stories, crooked floors, thin hallways, and a TON of character. It is a unique stay with links to the story of Lady Jane Grey and you will be walking on stairs and down hallways that the Tudors walked down. It is super cool! The price was good, my room was quiet, the staff was friendly, our pub food was awesome! I would stay here again because it was a unique and lovely experience!

No A/C, but I mean, it was built in the 1500s, and usually you dont need A/C in England anyway. Our room had a fan, and we were still quite comfortable even though it was "hot for England".

Wonderfully quirky, I don't think there's a flat bit of floor! Its right in the middle of the city.

No real ale in the bar so drank elsewhere.

    5SamanthaPosted on: 1-19-2026

The room was warm, clean and a good size. A bit basic, but had everything we needed. The building itself is beautiful and quite central, the cathedral is only 5 minutes walk away. The price was fair for the location.

We expected it to be noisy until late, as the pub is open until midnight, but noise continued outside the window all night long and it was really loud. In particular, some lunatic rode past on a bike every half hour all through the night, blasting out deafening music. I didn't sleep at all. The email we got before our stay with car parking instructions stated we could park in the car park behind the hotel, with a 24 hour ticket costing £8. This isn't correct and I had to call the hotel for instructions. You can pay for a day ticket (£8.45 until 5pm) and leave your car overnight. You then have to buy another day ticket from 7am the next morning.

Gorgeous Historical building. Very quirky rooms with uneven floors and beams which we loved. Lovely cosy bar. Overall a beautiful place to stay.

Wouldn’t recommend this hotel for the elderly or people with disabilities as rooms are up on the first floor accessed by steep stone steps.

This is a 14th century pilgrims inn in a fantastic location walking into the courtyard is like stepping back in time Would make a fantastic film set

The rooms were slightly cold but passable with a bit of investment this could be a premier go to hotel in Gloucester
