    Pros +

    • A nice hotel with friendly staff. A five minute walk from the train station and ten minutes from the city centre.
    • The location was excellent, about 5 mins walk from the station and it's right next door to a big Tesco so that was a bonus too. About 10-15 mins walk into town centre as well - very straight forward getting there. Staff were so friendly and helpful, even when I complained about my room and it's location they did their best to try and relocate me. The breakfast was nice. I got a good deal from the welcome email they send out when you've booked in...be sure though that you take a screenshot of the offer because it doesn't connect to your booking but the staff still honoured the price for me
    • Quite a comfortable bed .

    Cons -

    • Everything was very good,
    • Well, I travelled alone so booked a single room. Because I had a very large case they put me in a room on the ground floor. Right near the stairs. I had the worst night's sleep ever in a hotel. It was a Saturday night and people going up and down the stairs was just constant and it just kept waking me up all the time. I stayed in room 122 so ask for another room if you want a good night's sleep. The room itself was very basic, very small, no room for my suitcase. The bed wasn't that comfy and it creaked and wobbled every time I moved. So when I woke at 5am I told the staff at reception about the noise and not being able to sleep - they apologized but told me there weren't any other rooms available that weren't nr the stairs. More people continued even at that time to go up and down the stairs and I was so tired but just couldn't sleep. I got up and got ready for my day.Went out for the day and I asked again when I got back if there was a room free they gave me 114 instead, another single room but it was so much bigger it had lots of room, a proper door on the bathroom, and the bed was much much comfier so I had a better night's stay for my second night.I've already complained to Best Western about my visit, they were sorry, blah, blah, blah but wouldn't give me a refund for my terrible nights stay. Offered me 25% off my next stay which I've rejected. I'm coming to Derby again in April and needless to say I've booked another hotel. All the excellent points about this hotel, the location, the convenience, the lovely food, the excellent staff all ruined by placing guests in rooms by the stairs.
    • Doors slam at night, dirt around toilet rim under seat .Tv had odd squares in picture .

Cleanliness of hotel and friendly staff

Few issues, evening menu limited , and not happy that the parking could only be paid for 24 hours not the weekend, forgot to pay for second day by a couple of hours as late getting up

Standard room really nice, clean and comfortable. No noise .Good value for money. The handrail and stair case leading up to it is a little tired, needs a paint but didn't affect our stay in any way. The breakfast was really good, freshly cooked and plentiful.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and listened when I told them about my freezing room.

My rooms heating was off when I arrived, and was absolutely freezing. It took 4 hrs to heat the room to 18 degrees, but the batbroom remained cold. The shower could be made to run hot, but only if you turned the tap to full hot, which meant there was barely any pressure. Finally breakfast was ok but not great. 7.30am and only 2 yoghurts left, which were not replaced. The fruit juice was watered down, and i really dont know what was wrong with the orange juice...it tasted horribly bitter.I was only there for 1 night so just got on with it.

Staff (both day shift and night shift) were extremely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful! Hotel was clean and well kept, and in a very handy location directly between the train station and the city centre. Second visit in a row staying here and will definitely be using them again!

Last minute booking due to train delay. Staff were friendly, welcoming and super helpful - just what I needed after a very long day of delayed travel. Good breakfast selection for the price.

It’s a bit dated but very clean and comfortable so overall it’s really good value for money.

Love this hotel, its basic and simple but always clean and comfortable, staff are excellent and very friendly.

The hair dryers in the rooms, no guard on back, pulled my hair in and knotted it up so badly I had to cut it off, but this also happened last time in a different room but not quite as bad... spoke to girls on reception and they were very helpful, I took the dryer down and they advised they would speak to management about getting all these older unguarded ones changed out for newer safer ones.....Also... smart tvs are so cheap these days it would be wonderful if smart tvs were in the rooms so visitors can sign into netflix ect....

    Proximity to Derby

    No lift, very hot rooms

    6KarenPosted on: 2-1-2026

Close to the train station and a Tesco.

Corridors were tired with plaster missing from the wall and the carpets needing a vacuum.

Great location, 5 minutes walk from train station. Plenty of options for food nearby

    All good. Nothing bad

The bed was comfy and good clothes space

The bathroom floor tiles were very slippy, and bath was chipped shower curtain was orange at the bottom and light fixtures are not attached to the wall properly and also there was a stain on the mattress

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the bed was comfortable. In a good area near lots of shops and pubs within walking distance.

Good budget hotel that has had a much welcomed refurbishment since our last stay. Friendly and efficient staff and breakfast was good.

    Paying for parking

Breakfast was good. Cooked fresh and plentiful. Location was great.

No heating put in the room prior to arrival. No toilet roll in the room at all and no phone to call reception to let them know , so used my mobile but no answer.
