    Pros +

    • Lovely old building fantastic window on staircase
    • The location was good for a night out in derby
    • Great location, nice decor and clean

    Cons -

    • Very small room
    • When we arrived there was nobody on reception, we realised they were standing outside talking to someone. The room was cold in the morning as the heating hadn't come on, I did this myself and also pu2t on the portable heater that was in the room. When we went to check out there was nobody on reception and no members of staff to be seen despite me ringing the bell on the reception desk several times. We waited for a while before putting the room card on the reception desk and leaving.
    • Heating obviously not working and just small plug in radiator in room which wasn’t sufficient. There was a fan heater but stopped working after 5 mins and would not work again. Only 1 member of staff on for everything so very difficult to get a drink at the bar and no one around at all at checkout.

A good room with coffee/tea and water facilities. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean with a range of complimentary toiletries. The main room was a little on the cool side, but a heater was in the room for comfortI was attending the cathedral, so the hotel was in an excellent location. There was an extra discount given for local parking which was very helpful. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was very nice with juice, yoghurt, toast and cereals available.

There could have been a clear indication as to how to operate the shower. There was no welcome pack or information located with Wifi codes, which may have been helpful.

Excellent location for my purposes, but also for anyone wanting to be in central Derby. Helpful staff. Good breakfast - and nice evening meal on the occasion I dined in.

It was just a shade on the cold side in the dining room. Bedroom was fine.

Good value for money Great locationFriendly helpful staff

Some rooms need freshening up Breakfast could be hotter

Room was large, comfortable, warm and extremely clean, although a bit short on storage. Staff were attentive and friendly. Dinner and breakfast were really good during a three day stay, and served quickly. I was lucky enough to grab one of the free parking spaces outside the hotel, but these shouldn't be relied on. Location was brilliant - handy for the Cathedral and town centre. My partner has mobility issues, but managed well.

The building is impressive but reflects a somewhat decaying grandeur, which is a bit depressing on entry. It's obviously in need of continuing investment!

The location was great, and a helpful friendly hotel. It was clean and well kept ...and most importantly quiet! Got a good nights sleep.

The staff were all very welcoming and willing to take extra steps to make our visit enjoyable.

The hotel is obviously working on its heating system and had tried hard to address this with portable radiators but by the windows in the dining room was cold.

My old company used to put our visiting colleagues from around the UK in here when it was first opened. They raved about it so I had always wanted to stay here. The facade is beautiful, and the reception area, although very sparsely decorated, given it was the day after Boxing Day, was in keeping with the age of the building. The gentleman on check-in was friendly, helpful and efficient, and finally, the hotel is situated only a few minutes' walk from the city centre.

Unfortunately, it has changed hands since then, and although still labelled as a 4 Star boutique hotel, it is priced as a budget hotel, which should have been a red flag. As we entered the room, we were greeted with a musty smell despite the window being open. The room was weirdly shaped, where the bathroom had been shoehorned in, and the area at the side contained the TV on the far wall (pointless if you were in bed nearest to the door), a desk and a wardrobe, but very little lighting. My wife fancied a soak in the bath but had to go to reception to get a plug. There were no bedside lights, only switches which turned the main lights on/off.

Location was good, 5 free car parking spaces on a first come first serve basis, pretty building with character. Comfy beds.

Safe broken, smell from drains in bathroom

Beautiful building. Friendly staff. Clean rooms.

Bathroom floor tiles a mess. Toilet seat wrong shape for toilet. Breakfast not being open at stated time.

The location is perfect for the centre of Derby

A coffee machine in the room would be good as there used to be

    7TraceyPosted on: 2-9-2026

    Great cooked breakfast

Heating in room not working, with portable oil filled heater provided. Room took a while to warm up

    8ChristopherPosted on: 2-9-2026

Excellent position nice staff clean rooms good fresh cooked breakfast

Noise from toons above creaking floorboards. Coffee at breakfast is filter coffee not that good but tea and juice is fine

Love the location, close to work.

The shower. I’ve stayed here three times now and had the same room each time. The shower is awful.

Excellent full breakfast and good choice of alternatives. Great central location - and decent parking provision. Liked the adaptation of an historic building for modern usage.

    3PhillippaPosted on: 2-5-2026

    Location

Room not as advertised. Very dated, and dirty stained sheets.

    9ChristopherPosted on: 2-5-2026

The Hotel is perfectly located in probably the most impressive part of the city. The Cathedral Quarter. With grand views of the Cathedral from outside the entrance. The building is a totally historic structure and I loved staying here in what is a very smart hotel. The room I had was spacious and the ensuite first class. It's a shame I didn't have longer. The staff were welcoming and the service excellent.Rooms downstairs had plenty of space. When next in Derby I'll be enjoying staying again.

During my one night stay in mid December the lift would not return down but hopefully it has been sorted by now.Breakfast could have included a selection of fruit but the cooked breakfast was fine.
