- Noise from other rooms, corridors and other floors is of concern when you want a nights sleep also the beds are very poor for comfort and to round it off no spoons to make a hot drink further to this any snacks had been removed from previous stays. In giving the hotel numerous chances regards especially the noice we will not be attending anymore
- I could hear traffic going past allnight windows not doubleglazed
- Very slight issue with kettle in the room, cord was not long enough. Otherwise excellent.

Welcoming friendly staff. Comfortable room. Very helpful, they readily provided us with another easy chair because of our mobility issues...
Personally I wish there was more choice in the evenings for the bar meals. Although there was also a Thai restaurant next to the bar I would have enjoyed more choice of regular pub grub! But whatever meals we had were well presented and tasty. There was considerable motorway road noise from our room which couldn't be avoided, but acceptable as we purposely chose a room at the front of the hotel so we knew what to expect and we were only staying for 2 nights!
Clean comfortable roomGreat breakfastWelcoming staff
Nice update decor and great thai restaurant below the hotel !
The shower was trickling out and cold !
It had a nice bar area, we did not use the restaurant so cannot comment
Noisy, we did not sleep well the first night, we were woken up about 4.15 , we could hear lots of noise that sounded like furniture being moved around and sounded like drawers opening , this went on for around 45 minutes, we the heard what sounded like water running , this also went on for around 30 minutes. None of us went back to sleep..When my son complained to the receptionist the next morning, there was also another couple of people complaining that they heard the same thing. The only compensation the receptionist offered was to move us to another room. When we checked out the same lady was in reception and could not explain where the noise was coming from.
The room was spacious clean and warm . Staff are friendly and welcoming
Couldn't get the shower to lower it temp
Convenient for the A1M and A19. Very warm clean and inviting as we checked in. The room was large and the bed very comfortable, bathroom was clean and adequate, we didn’t eat here but the breakfast next morning was freshly prepared and had a good choice of toast cereal tea coffee, ordered hot items from the menu which literally only took a few minutes and it was served by a very friendly waitress, all of the staff were very nice. Highly recommended if you are in the area. The restaurant looked fab
Great location and easy acesss. Need to modernise it we are in the 21st century and don’t carry cards. Had to pay money to get in the room.
Th staff. Most unhelpful people and just so hard to check in. Never had issues in any hotel I stay in always used Apple Pay for Authrisation. Would not let me check out at 13:00 even though the cleaner said she probably won’t get to my room till 14:00.
Clean and modern , the beds are comfy and towels are clean ,fresh and soft. Stayed at the Highfield many times and always have had fantastic service and a lovely stay .
The room was good , restaurant is good and the hotel is warm .
The breakfast is pretty mean for the money. One rasher of bacon , one egg , one sausage a small pot of beans and or tomatoes is not good value. If you want more each items costs another 50p.
the room what very spacious and clean. The restaurant was exceptional and the Thai food outstanding supported by great staff who were very helpful. The breakfast in the morning was very good and again the staff very helpful.
The beds were not the best, and uncomfortable causing a poor nights sleep. The price for the suite was high for the beds to be poor quality.
Lovely and clean hotel with very comfortable beds, great location to get to the likes of Ramside Hall and central Durham via just a short taxi ride.
Everything the staff very friendly and helpful the room clean the bed comfortable and the food excellent
The staff were friendly and the room was spacious & clean. Perfect for an overnight stop over after a long drive. There were a number of self serve breakfast choices and a selection for a cooked breakfast too which set me up for my next days travels.
Overall the communal areas are a little dated & tired. Unfortunately the hot water wasn’t very hot which was disappointing as I’d wanted a bath. I tried the Thai restaurant, but wasn’t terribly impressed with the food.
Room was lovely and a big cosy, comfortable bed.
Some of the communal areas could do with a freshen up, like the lift/corridors for example were a bit run down looking and had hand prints all over the door of the lift, which wouldn’t take much to tidy/clean up. All other areas were lovely though and it wouldn’t put me off coming again.
Location
People at the restaurant were terrible, but staff done absolutely nothing...guy were coughing, nearly coughing his lungs out... other guests were feeling sick
I’ve stayed many times at the Highfield Hotel, it’s a lovely hotel with nice clean rooms , lovely staff and great food .
There’s nothing I don’t like about the Hotel.
Clean, friendly staff, helpful staff! Great for what we needed
No iron in the room.
