No fridge in room Dreadful breakfast sadly lacking in many elements and no staff around. Had to go to reception to get them to call staff.
The room had a sea view and a comfortable King size bed. Breakfast was cooked to order and was excellent value for money. The location is on the sea front with the town centre and the SOL within walking distance. If you want to leave the car, the bust stops for Sunderland and South Shields are on the doorstep. We've stayed at this hotel a number of times and it has always been enjoyable.
My only comment would be, it would have been nice to have a small table and two chairs beside the window to enjoy the view.
Property has a great vibe and amazing views over the ocean
Beware of being offered discounted breakfast if you book upfront I was offered £10 per day if I pay on checking which I’m glad I didn’t so I paid the higher amount. Breakfast wasn’t cooked, the sausages and bacon were extremely undercooked and also the poached eggs may as well have been boiled. I told the staff on the morning in the breakfast area which they took the plate away and said nothing, didn’t check the remaining undercooked food (was practically raw) then once the poached eggs came hard and overcooked I left. There was no follow up and she didn’t offer any assurance, if someone gives you raw food back and then once the second plate comes with poached eggs and leaves with the plate still full you’d think they would follow up. Upon checkout the lady didn’t ask about my stay, she didn’t ask if it was good or bad just said the £50 deposit will be refunded and that was it.
Location
Our superior room needed an upgrade, the showers in the rooms were Very noisy!
Staff very friendly if not always available. Rustic look very nice, quiet and thank you for the upgrade. The sea view was lovely
Having to put toiletries on the floor with make up. 1 tiny tooth mug shelf, is not appropriate for 2 people travelling with toiletries? A flat space in the bathroom, would have done wonders. There was a gap at end of bath wasted. Design flaw.
Room was tasteful, comfortable, nice and quiet location. Shower was good. TV worked fine. Nothing I could complain about :)
Breakfast wasn’t great. Eggs over cooked, spinach made toast soggy (maybe we’ve toast separately).
Location and views from room fabulous
The shower was scalding hot no cold water from sink taps also. Wardrobe door hanging off. Upholstery needs cleaning.
Orris (145) Lovely sea facing room with large comfortable bed and sofa in room. Bathroom had bath and separate shower. Close to lift was great as I can't lift case up and down stairs.
Grouting in shower showing some black mould. Nice Yorkshire tea spoiled by UHT milk. Windows and mirror should have been cleaner. I have to sit to do hair and make up so a lamp on the desk would have been nice as the light later on was not good
Stayed one night for a wedding in the hotel. Wedding was lovely, beautiful setting, hotel staff all friendly and helpful, room and bathroom were large, comfortable & very clean.
Plumbing was very loud and so was noise from the corridors
Everything, stopped after a family wedding. Wedding was excellent accommodation very good.
Breakfast sausages could have been better bacon was underdone, to my tastes anyway.
Breakfast was poor and just say warm, it used to be amazing but has changed hands we won't stay again for breakfast.
The Roker Hotel is such a pleasant place to stay, with friendly & professional staff, clean & comfy rooms, and very enjoyable dinner and breakfast options.
Location
Breakfast was cold at 9.15 am.Booked a double room but got a 3/4 bed.
It was located in the area where we wanted to be for last minute deal
Bedroom was cold & radiator did not turn on
Rooms nice and clean
Breakfast was poor. Cheese looked like it had been out all night. Bacon was hard.
The location is amazing as it always is - to have a sea view and wake up to watch the sun rise across the water is so special and something we love to do here. The room was a good size and it was great to have a bath as well as a shower in the bathroom.
This hotel has gone down market since we were last here. No coffee machine this time, back to instant coffee sachets - and only the decaf tea was Fairtrade, not the coffee and not the regular tea bags. The selection of biscuits was no more, just a couple of single biscuits... Toiletries were in squirty bottles screwed to the wall in the bathroom rather than the complimentary welcome pack of the past... Breakfast was disappointing, all self service including the teas and coffees and the cooked breakfast as well. It was tasty and the cheese selection was good, but missed the eggs florentine and waitress service, tea in a pot and the general feeling of being spoilt. The hotel had suffered a fire eight days before our stay. It had been contained in the restaurant in the basement to one side, but the smoke must have been dreadful. To give them their due, we didn't notice this until in the middle of night on opening the bathroom door the smell of old smoke from the charred wooden exterior below was really noticeable after we had opened the window there to air the steam out over the night.
The views spot on The room excellent
The breakfast was OK but could be improved a little
The roker is a fabulous hotel
There was a fire ? the night I stayed although I understand this cannot be forseen, the fire safety procedure was appalling the two men on reception looked dazed and didn't check on any of us it took the fire service 1 1/2 hours later to check we were all safe we weren't guided by your staff or checked on ... extremely disappointed....the employee that shone was Jamie he seemed to know what he was doing I feel you need to review your fire protocols also disappointing no apologies for inconvenience as most of us were on work trips
