About

Stornoway's most historic hotel, the Royal nestles in the heart of Stornoway, beside the marina, where you can relax, enjoy the hotel's cozy character and enjoy dining in our Boatshed Restaurant or in HS1, the town's 1st cafe bar. If on business, you'll probably appreciate free wireless internet access available throughout the hotel. What matters so much more than bricks and mortar, though, is the warmth of the welcome and the friendly, easy service you'll receive - for the Hebrides has a great tradition of hospitality. While the Royal Hotel enjoys a delightful view over Lews Castle and its grounds. The town center is only around 656 feet walk.

    Pros +

    • The staff at the front desk was kind and helpful. (Bar staff was not as motivated and we waited a long time to place a drink order on the night we arrived). The bathrooms in both of our rooms were comfortable. It was nice to have access to bath tubs.
    • Great view of the castle, spacious room and bathroom. Accommodating staff. Easy to make a dinner reservation online (even the night before) - excellent meal! Clean and comfortable room. Sparkling and still water provided. Easy access to/from room and back parking. Close to ferry.
    • Both restaurants served delicious food and the wait staff was wonderful. The view from our room was lovely and I appreciated that we could open the big picture window. The desk staff was also lovely, knowledgeable and patient with our many questions.

    Cons -

    • Room 8 was too close to the air exchange units. We wanted fresh air in our room overnight as it was hot that day but the noise was unpleasant. That room was a real disappointment and we would not have returned the following weekend except that we'd already booked and paid for another room (17), which was better, but still a let down given the cost. The plastic flowers in the entry area are dusty and tacky. They seem off-brand for a place with what we've heard is the best restaurant in town. We enjoyed our meal at The Boatshed (especially the mussels).
    • Small parking lot was full, but found street parking just outside of the lot.

Check in went well, room and view were nice

we waited 90 minutes for dinner, the young waiter didn't turn in our order for an extra 30 minutes, so one of our party of 7 gave up and paid for her food and went to her room.

    The food was nice.

The bedrooms were clean but tired in terms of furnishings & carpet.

The hotel, room and staff were great.

My room had a large kitchen extractor fan outside the window, which made a loud noise even with the window shut, and I needed to open it. Also men repairing the roof were noisy and busy around my window much longer that expected.
