    Pros +

    • the room was nice and bed and bathroom very comfortable. Staff were very attentive.
    • Location, large, clean and comfy room
    • Quirky and comfortable room with a 'downstairs' huge luxury bathroom with Travertine tiles and underfloor heating, and a separate bath and walk in shower. Booked breakfast with friends and lunch with family and basically stayed put all day. Great food and friendly, though very busy, staff.

    Cons -

    • More tea bag variety. No info on who to contact in an emergency.
    • Check in is from 2pm and we were there half an hour early. The check in for the hotel is the same as for the restaurant so the staff were busy with lunch service and a little brusque. But they kindly took our bags and we went for a coffee elsewhere until after 2pm. All good.
    • The room was very tired in its decorative state. Both of my pillow cases had dark marks on them and the room and corridor had a stale food smell. Was very disappointed as we’ve stayed here before but this time noticed a marked deterioration.

Staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly. The bathroom was lovely with great products on offer to use.

We really enjoyed dinner at the hotel. Food and beer selection was excellent.

Daytime parking near the hotel was difficult.

The location and the pub was lovely

There were quite a few stairs. It was ok but something to be aware of.

e Borough boutique hotel has a great bar and restaurant that serves lovely food by super friendly staff. It’s a historic Grade II listed Georgian building with a long history of hospitality in a thriving port town. On Road parking is available next to the hotel on cute traditional cobbled roads.

Good central location. Food at dinner was very good.

Room was not very warm, radiator just warm on maximum setting.

Lovely bar, great barman. Room was comfortable and loved the bathroom with underfloor heating

Had a disappointing meal for my birthday The mains were brought out when we were obviously still eating our mains and because it was my birthday meal, we really didn’t want to be rushed. And the restaurant was so cold, diners kept their coats on. We also left a WiFi router in our room, and after three attempts, no one there answered our requests if they had found it. We eventually had to come in in person to be handed this item

A really fantastic pub hotel - clean, comfortable and very friendly - excellent breakfast, too!

    8YvonnePosted on: 2-2-2026

Room very clean and staff very friendly.

Our room right by fire door which banged shut every time someone walked out. Machine hummed outside bedroom window all day and night.

    1RobertPosted on: 2-2-2026

    Nothing - rude reception staff

Room was cold / damp/ poorly cleaned/ poorly made up. Advertised with decent Farrah coffee bags and there wasn’t even Nescafé it was bookers own coffee. Shower was awful and overall just dreadful

We managed to get room 1 at an excellent rate. The room is a suite and is very spacious, well appointed and was clean and tidy. The location is great for wandering the small city of Lancaster and has (quite expensive - £14 + 40p app charge for 24 hours) council parking very close by. This is the second time we have stayed and will definitely return. The hotel is a wonderful old building with high ceilings and spacious feeling about it. The food is spot on and there are a vey good range of cask beers at the bar. We like that it is dog friendly (at a supplement!) and our small Chihuahua enjoyed her stay too.

My only complaint as it were, was that 2 single beds were pushed together to make 1 large bed. The issue was that the duvet didn't really cover the whole bed. It wasn't a major issue as we both stayed nearer the middle.

Lovely location and set-up. Spacious room with a good bathroom

A few minor issues but staff were exceptionally helpful and resolved quickly
