We had animals all over. Lovely walking trails, great service and delicious variety of included breakfast.

The hotel grounds were beautiful and quiet. Super close to the water and the sound of waves!!Our room was quiet and clean, and the bed was comfortable-really liked the layout.
We had a non-smoking room, but the couple under our room chained-smoked on their patio and it made our outside experience not as great. We did not make a formal complaint, but the people beside us did—it helped a bit…but they kept doing it anyway. I finally saw the man on our last day and asked him directly if he could smoke away from the patio —that helped more…should have done it early.
The location was amazing ! Beautiful gardens with birds and animals and the beach in front had calm waters for my baby to swim in.
We were on the ground floor and the guests staying right above us were noisy at night and there wasn’t much sound insulation.
Beachfront property is at a premium in Puerto Viejo. A good majority of the hotels are across the street from the beach. So I really appreciated the benefit of waking up to the water and hearing it. We stayed on the upstairs room so had a hammock, with for me is bliss. The ground floor rooms don't have the hammocks. The property is well kept and the fauna and animals are wonderful to observe.
The variety of breakfast could use some swapping out if staying more than 3 days. While I liked hanging by the pool, there wasn't a place to sit provided by the hotel to hang by the beach.
It’s a Beachfront hotel, it’s great being in front of the beach. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. The gardens are beautiful and well maintained, lots of animals like sloths even outside our room, it’s a great place to relax and admire nature
This isn’t our first time here and you notice the hotel is run down, the products to clean the toilets are bad quality as they smell like urine since the moment you enter the room and even after they attempt to clean it. the pool needs serious maintenance, there are broken pieces inside de pool, like filters and lights and there’s also material falling from the jacuzzi wall into the garden. They lack security specially during the day, the pool and jacuzzi area is not secure, lots of people who are not guests get inside the hotel to use the facilities (toilets, showers, pool and jacuzzi even the chairs); this is not safe at all, as you leave your belongings in the chairs. We talked about it with other guests. They need a controlled entrance from the beach to the pool or close it again, it’s a mess. The hotel has lots of open spaces but this area can be easily controlled.
Grounds were tropical and private beachfront. Able to see monkeys and sloths in nearby trees, toucans and other wildlife! Staff brings breakfast each morning to your room. , nice restaurant and bar on property, town is just a few minute drive :)
Poor WiFi but staff was very helpful and offered space near front office with better reception. Also, there is an Internet cafe/BOA-coworking space-above the Green Jaguar- a few minutes away. And, bed was not that comfortable - a mattress pad and a countertop burner/cooktop would have been a nice addition to the “kitchen”.
This is a really nice, comfortable, well run hotel on the beach. The pool is nice, the staff low key and helpful. It was a really relaxing place to stay. We loved that there were two restaurants within easy walking distance.
Second stay at VDC. Love the breakfast brought daily to your room. Location is great with nice beach walks in either direction. Lots of wildlife to see on the property.
Nothing negative
Very clean and big space I feel more like a Condominium beach on back yard. Nothing like wake up with the sound of the waves next to you.
There was lots of wildlife right on the property. They had free coffee on all the time. Pool was very nice
The beds were hard. Lots of ants by the pool m. We got quite a few bites. Beach is rocky, can’t swim there.
Location was ideal, right on a beautiful beach. The attention to details was so obvious. One of the few hotels of this type where your included breakfast was delivered to your room during your stay. The grounds of the hotel are stunning beautiful, complete with visits from local families of monkeys, sloths and toucan. The staff was really friendly and attentive to our every need. All of the above made for a wonderful stay and visit to the area.
The cleanliness and privacy
The nights I was staying, I returned late to the hotel, both nights I had to wait and even look for someone to let me in because there was no one at the main entrance.
Fantastic location at the beaches (with natural pools), beautiful garden, nice balcony and we saw Tucans from the pool area and Sloves at the car park and ....and...and. Lovely staff. We had a great stay.
Room a little bit dated and "breakfast in the room" instead of in the beautiful garden or restaurant area isn't that great.
Close to a beach, nature and always well kept
Room floors need some paint or new tile
The facilities and the location. The breakfast was a full breakfast and it was delicious!
Great location. The staff were lovely. The view from our balcony was excellent.
The aircon was very week. The WiFi was almost non existent. The shower was a thin dribble, unuseable.
The room with the balcony and garden view is simply perfect, so much wildlife you can see from there. During our stay we enjoyed bird watching, we also saw a couple of sloths, frogs and so much more. The breakfast is super good, they offer three options for breakfast. There’s coffee available 24/7 at the reception. The beach is so clean, peaceful, secluded. We love villas del caribe, try to go there at least one a year. My favorite place in the Caribbean
