- The staff were nice. The food was simple but delicious, buffet style but I kind of felt like I was in school because you can’t serve yourself, you have to steretch your plate out for the staff to serve you. The beds were firm and comfortable and the rooms nice and clean. The pool is nice and so is the trail around the property. You can see animals all around. We saw a family of monkeys from the pool and a huge iguana behind the bar. The setting and the views are truly magical. The rooms are freshly painted and the bathrooms are remodelled, however, they are on the smaller side. There are no amenities in the room (no coffee maker for example) but you can get coffee, hot chocolate and tea from the cafeteria anytime. The staff were very nice and helpful. We rented a taxi-boat to take us up to cerro tortuguero and hike on our own ($61 round trip for our family of 5 vs $46 per person if we had taken the tour). The boat driver Anibal was so kind that he did a little detour and took us to the point were the river meets the Caribbean sea, it was a magical experience and along with our hike up the hill and seeing the view from up top, made our trip to this lodge worthwhile.
- Location was excellent
- Set in the wilderness, right when we arrived there was a spider monkey in the trees. Umbrellas were provided to us, bathrooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. The pool area is beautiful and the room is centrally located. Water taxi was on time and the driver was nice. Cocktails and poolside bar was very nice.
Cons -
- 1. No AC and it IS necessary, you can’t be in your room during the day because it is suffocatingly hot in there. So you have to be outside which means dealing with the many mosquitoes especially in the afternoon, so beware. We forgot to take repellent and there was none for sale at the hotel which was disapointing.2. Isolated: You can only get to the lodge by boat and it is $30 per person round trip (takes about 1 hr). Tip: if you arrive after 3:00 the transport company only takes cash, we were not informed of that and so we were out of cash during our 2night stay, which was particularly annoying because you can only go anywhere on a taxi-boat which only takes cash, something else I did know when I booked.3: Value for the price: Up to 4 per room, we were 5 (including 3 kids) so we had to get two rooms. When you add the transport $30 pp, plus the meals ($38 per day per person for buffet lunch and dinner) you are already over $1,100 for 2 nights without any excursions or extras at all which I feel is overpriced for the comfort/ammenity level of the lodge.4. Tours are all you can do and they are expensive at $40-46 pp. Considering that if you don’t do them, then there really is nothing much to do I feel the hotel should include at least one of these tours as complimentary. There is a pool but we had to be strategic in when we used it because the hotel was quite full.5. Meal restrictions: I mentioned food was simple yet delicious, however, breakfast lunch and dinner are served for only 1.5 hours each. 6:30-8:00; 12:30-2:00 and 6:30-8:00 pm. Outside those timeframes there is no food for purchase, nor can you eat anything other than the buffet which is complicated when you have picky eaters in the family.Suggestion: please change the margarine for butter. All in all it is a beautiful location, great staff, very nice lodge, it just isn’t comfortable enough for me to feel it was good value or what I think about when I think 4 stars.
- Food was not good. Boats from the hotel to the town should be included rather than charged each time. No assistance from the airport.
- Need more shelving/dressers/tables in the room and hooks for jackets, towels etc. The dining area wasn't good. Bright light and no comfort. Was like a big cafeteria. I thought the restaurant by the pool that was promoted online would be open but it wasn't which is very unfortunate. The stairs were roped off so we couldn't even go upstairs and enjoy the balcony/view.

Location was excellent

Fabulous Location, pool area, rooms and gardens and close to both the canals of the national park and the Tortuguero village. Staff are wonderful and the food is good and new restaurant area a big improvement on the previous one.
Booking for canal tours for families a little bit hit and miss on availability. We wanted an afternoon tour on the day we arrived and a morning tour the next day, and were lucky but others we met were told their chosen tour was full. When I had asked before our arrival to pre book a tour to make sure we had a place, I was told it was not necessary and told to book on arrival.
The surroundings and the rooms were so comfortable, clean and very nicely furnished. The food was inexpensive, not really fancy but good food with plenty of choice. Pool / bar area was gorgeous. Loved the wildlife around too.
Nothing. It was a really great place to stay. I think my favourite of our trip
Common area including pool, private beach, location, breakfast.
Rooms are not at the right standard given the price paid (the « jacuzzi » isn’t one, very dark rooms, we could see inside of our room from the main path.Services were also overpriced (e.g Laundry, restaurant, ..)
Amazing location + the reception staff like Bismark were very nice and friendly. (Staff st the buffet is not)
Food is just terrible, especially for the price of the hotel. It’s edible for 2 days but if u stay longer you will go crazy. There is also no restaurant or snacks available at the lodge site. There is only buffet on certain times and the food is just simple and bad. Also, the guides from the hotel for tours are not as good as the local arranged quides.
Clean, close to nature, good tour by hotel.
No windows in accommodation, walls are paper thin, you hear every word of every conversation of your neighbours and even hear them snore all night!
Amazing location, incredible boat road to get to the hotel and just tonnes of wildlife everywhere
It’s reasonably basic, the breakfast buffet was ok not amazing but did the job
The hotel is located on an island and you are in the jungle. Lots of animals and butterflies. The swimming pool area is great and it was great entertainment with the monkeys jumping in the trees. Very helpful and friendly staff. The meals in the restaurant were surprisingly good. Note that you have to take a 5 minutes water taxi (2 usd pp) to get to the village of Tortuguero.
The resort show signs of ageing and we were not impressed by the room. We booked a standard room and I thought it was quite expensive for what we got. It was very simple. The bed was fine but no other place to sit. No airconditioning, only a fan, but that was not a problem. Note that the rooms do not have glass windows, only mesh
Pachira Lodge was the perfect place for our stay in Tortuguero. Though the lodge isn't in the main village, it was easy enough to get a 5 minute taxi boat across (with help from the staff). The food was perfect, with really helpful staff making sure they met our dietary requirements without a fuss. The room itself was perfect, more than comfortable in the warmer weather and was surrounded by wildlife wherever you turned. I would recommend Pachira Lodge to anyone who's visiting the area.
The setting is amazing and the hotel public areas were lovely. The rooms are basic, but have everything you need. Beds were comfy.
The food was canteen style and adequate, but not great.
Had all the appearance of a higher rated hotel. Lovely location in the rainforest. Food was pretty good if basic. Reception staff very efficient and helpful.
The bedroom accommodation was not great. 4 of us sharing a room with practically no means of drying anything - just two hooks and small towel rail in bathroom. Given its propensity to heavy rain and high humidity, this means everything is permanently damp. Very dated bathroom which felt grubby. After period of prolonged rain, loos were not working properly. Understandable but still not nice.
Nice and clean
Made it looked cold , nothing personal only one pictures !
Set in the rainforest of Tortuguero it is in a beautiful and secluded location accessible by ferry boat from the mainland. We got the public ferry from La Pavona and left our car there. The pool area is lovely and there is a short trail where several guided tours visit to walk round each day.The rooms are nice, clean and bug free. Basic provisions, no coffee/tea facilities or fridge which we found useful in other places as we travelled.Reception were really friendly and helpful.Surrounded by animals, Spider monkeys were jumping on our roof, there are lots of birds, iguanas, armadillos and more all in the grounds.Tortuguero isn’t known for its places to eat out and we found eating at the hotel very reasonably priced and convenient.
Food was served in a buffet style but you walk round holding a plate out for portions. It felt a little like Oliver Twist holding a plate out hoping for more. Although you could revisit the buffet as much as you wanted so there was no restriction but it wasn’t the nicest way to be served.
location and quality of tours
no hairdryer
Good bar and pool. Food okay
No AC, rooms lack privacy, inconvenient location (need to pay $4 each way to take a water taxi to tortuguero village)
The food was delicious. The rooms were really comfortable, lots of space.Activities were really fun.Met some incredible people.Jungle atmosphere is amazing, lots of wildlife.Staff were friendly.
Organisation was very chaotic, felt a bit stressful. Meal times changed day to day. Wasn’t fully aware of the full board concept when I booked through booking.com, but was a nice surprise!Picture of the pool is of the neighbouring hotel, not Pachira.
Foods were EXCELLENT!I highly recommend guests not to waste eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner in town. Terrible, waste of money, & expensive. We wasted our time & money eating several restaurants. We then decided to eat only at Pachira lodge all remaining meals.
Location, three lodges we rented all in good shape.
The front desk was helpful.
There was no privacy because there were ventilation openings between the rooms.
