Pros +
- Great complex, we stayed in an annex log-house. The log-houses are very spacious and cozy. The heat was turned up to 11, the floors were burning :)Bedroom had old carpet and furniture smell, but manageable.Note that the log houses are a bit far from the main hotel, but they offer free shuttle which is very prompt, so the distance didn't matter that much, you just have to call to the reception and in max 2 minutes somebody picks you up.The onsen they offer is lovely, especially the outdoor one.
- Breakfasts were awesome!
- We booked a lodge that is about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the main building. It was snowy, yet surprisingly warm and cozy. The lodge features a spacious kitchen, two rooms, and a living area. There is no Wi-Fi, but we were able to use 4G. The hotel also provided us with a phone to contact them or request a shuttle bus available 24/24
Cons -
- There was no wi-fi in the log-house.
- Bathrooms are VERY outdated. Entire hotel is a bit drab - worn carpet, peeling paint. Hotel needs some investment
- Bugs and outdated furniture, curtains color make it look so dark. And there was a fireplace but no woods to light up

Kusatsu Onsen town is amazingly picturesque and absolutely worth visiting with Kusatsu Onsen Village hotel having amazing hot spring on their territory. It's serene, very tranquil and perfect for relaxation. They also have a shuttle bus to the station which is very close to the main attraction - Yubatake bath ♨️ The atmosphere there is absolutely unique, both on the rainy day and with bright sun - you can sit at various foot baths and enjoy a beautiful day.
The hotel is a bit old, furniture is rather shabby and our room was rather dark. For this price I expected it to be a bit more renovated.
Hotel is located near the forest (or park?), so we had a wonderful view into the trees from our balcony. It’s about 20 minutes walk from the Bus terminal or city centre, but they have regular shuttles. I will attach the schedule of the shuttles. It’s a small blue bus with the hotel’s name written in English, it was easy to find it.Onsen was very good, one for ladies had a small quiet waterfall. Both outdoor onsens feature lying baths and two big pools of hot water. The temperature of the water could be cooler, but maybe I would have appreciated it more in winter. The breakfast was very delicious, it’s a buffet style with some local specialties. I think it’s easy to stay for a week without getting bored with food.
The beds and pillows were hard. Hotel is a bit dated, but no big deal. Wi-fi was unstable.
Historic Japanese rooms, which made you really feel like you were living in ancient Japan, but each one had modern amenities.
The staff never went the extra mile to assist us with any activities or issues we had. They only provided the bare minimum assistance which didn’t not make us feel like appreciates patrons. Also I recommend they make info regarding their “no tattoo” policy more readily available.
Staff were nice, Facilities were good, buffet included in stay, location close enough to local attractions but also shuttle service included.
It is an aged facility. Rooms were a bit old and worn. Wasn't an issue though.
Everything was perfect, the facility had everything you needed and imagined and more... The staff was amazing and I cannot say enough about them, I felt like a VIP. They were so nice, accommodating and soooo helpful. We stayed in the cabins(10 minute shuttle ride to main building)and I'd prefer to have stayed at the main building for convenience. The shuttle to town was awesome. Breakfast and dinner were awesome. Really everything was amazing and would go back in a heartbeat.
I loved everything, just needed more time to fully enjoy all the amenities.
We rented a cabin during our stay which was clean and the heated floors were already warmed up before we arrived. The shuttle to and from the main resort was extremely convenient and arrived upon request. The onsen is absolutely phenomenal and the breakfast was great with a lot of options. My wife is a vegetarian and we never had any problems filling our plates. The staff were very nice and accommodating and are willing to go above and beyond to make sure your stay was exceptional. Honestly, my wife and I loved staying here and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Very large hotel with many things you can do, probably good for families as it has kids room and playgrounds. But couples would also enjoy.About 15 minutes walk to center.Inside and outside onsenGood western breakfast (finally not liquid scrambled eggs) (they also have japanese breakfast)
I hate when the bed has only a sheet under a blanket which is never washed. The sheet comes loose and you sleep under the dirty blanket.Very old dark brown room, not very pleasant smell, but windows have nets and you can open them.Overall other than the room itself it was great, but would probably look for different options next time. If they provide normal bed sheets, i would book again.
The nature and landscape is cool .The onsen is very beautiful and comfortable. The food is very good. The stuff are nice Bath tab jaccuzi is nice
Every thing in the rooms was old and not very clean. The shuttle to the log house works very good but felt strangeYou need reserve time during day hours for laundary
Staying in the cabin was very relaxing! Beautiful scenery and the nearby town of Kusatsu is lovely! It was nice to have a full kitchen and fridge in our cabin which came fully stocked. They have a nice room for babies to play in. Lots of activities for older kids too! The morning breakfast spread was very good!
WiFi only works in the main building, not in the cabins. There are a lot of hidden fees: to use the pool, the Onsen, and any other activities really. I thought it was included, but it is not. Also, the Onsen on site is NOT TATTOO FRIENDLY. There is a public Onsen in town that is though. The large tub in our first cabin didn’t work, so they switched us. Staff was prompt and friendly about. In the second cabin the tub jets turned on, but still didn’t work. It was definitely one of the main reasons we booked the room, so we were a bit disappointed. We just didn’t want to move again. Our second cabin also had mold on the ceiling from what looked like a leak maybe? We just avoided that room. It is a bit a rural so just expect comfortable, but rustic accommodations. Still an amazing place to stay though!
While it's true that this facility probably hit its peak 30 years ago, the friendliness of the staff, incredible location and family friendly activities make up for the aged facilities. If you aren't expecting perfection you are going to love it here We were the only western foreigners and were treated with such kindness and patience from both guests and staff. The onsen was lovely, the kareoke room was a great treat and the breakfast was perfectly adequate. We truly enjoyed ourselves there and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a down to earth onsen experience surrounded by incredible nature; trails right out the front door!
The hotel staffs were friendly and very helpful, and the facialities were great such as there is a free shuttle bus service to go to town center. The buffet for both breakfast and dinner were good and enough choices to select from. I really loved the hot-spring here.
Breakfast is good and delicious
It’s terrible experience. We booked 2 rooms for 4 adult people but they trying to charge additional fees of ¥35,000 and said we booked 1 person/room.The bathroom is very dirty and very bad smells. The smell came from the drainOnsen is well settled but it wasn’t clean
Great place, huge! So many facilities. Great for families, plenty to do for the kids of all ages ;) or if you just want to relax the onsen is very nice
Large size of hotel with good facilitiesCottage is quite far from central hotel but good vibes
Crowd of guests with old building style, far from city with difficult in walking in snow
Nestled in the forest 5 minutes away by shuttle bus from the main hotel building our log house was well equipped and very comfortable, with kitchen fully equipped and its own jacuzzi tub.Common hot water bath for hotel guests was impeccable
We were promised that towels would be changed daily and house cleaning would occur every alternate day… but this didn’t happen
