- Traditional accommodation n with an onsen. Beautiful telegation and the ability to go from once into one sin during town.
- The onsen was very nice
- The spa facilities were great. The staff were very nice. The location was great. The wifi was good.
Cons -
- I didn't have an issue at all with my. Stay, but I think the reason that the rating isn't as high as it is is due to the following. I think the only reason the school is so low it's due to the fact that you were sleeping on the floor and not on a traditional mattress. However, it's still quite comfortable and for those who need some more padding, you can always add another mattress beneath. There is a text to stay in the town which isn't including your original stay. And the kitchen was very small and limited.
- It’s an old building and needs a little bit of love, also bathroom only on the first floor not ideal
- The floor was uncomfortable. The futons could be thicker in my opinion.

The spa facilities were great. The staff were very nice. The location was great. The wifi was good.
The floor was uncomfortable. The futons could be thicker in my opinion.
The staff was somehow trying to improve the situation and brought the blower and ice water to the room. The ice water melted immediately.
The room was extremely hot. At 5:00 p.m., the temperature in the room was 32 degrees Celsius. The fans didn't do much, and it was just dangerous to spend a night there with a 1-year-old baby. The baby was kept crying and only settled down when we took him to a cooler place. Because of the heat, we had to leave and book another place for the night. It was a busy Friday evening, so we were under a lot of stress, with a crying baby in hand, looking for accommodation. However, it was better than risking heatstroke.
I liked the location, the onsen and the staff.
It was very dark, kind of creepy. We were on the 3rd or 4th floor. I do not recall. There was no shower in our room so I had to come down and wash up where the onsen is kept. It was very dimly lit and honestly, walking up the stairs in the dark, creeped me out. There was no AC either, only fans.
Located at the north end of Shibu Onsen and only about a 15 min drive to Shiga Kogen, this was the perfect location for our ski trip.
Additional fees for towels, parking, etc. ¥1000 yen to park at the hostel, or ¥500 to park about 10-15 min walk away.
Great location, excellent value, big room, fridge, nice but small onsen, free parking in front of hotel, shared kitchen was unexpected and convenient to make coffee in the morning, very good hostel and privacy!
A little old and outdated but clean.
The location is nice. The men's onsen is really nice. The lady in the front is pleasant. The room was also nice and roomy.
You do not get access to the rest of the onsens in the town if you stay here. The woman's onsen in comparison to the men's is awful. Barely any room. It was like a small hole you could barely fit a few people (according to my gf). She was really upset about the quality of it and that she couldn't use the other ones in the area. It seemed like it was built as an after thought and was not a good place to relax after a long day. In comparison the mens indoor onsen was large and the outdoor one had nice landscaping. The room was also not ready when I arrived and had to wait until they cleaned it. Arrived a few hours after check in.Food options are slim at night. Make sure you bring cash as many restaurants don't take card and the single ATM in town is closed at night.
Location was great, in proximity to the snow monkeys and the bus stop to shiga kogen. Very large bedroom with toilet. Enjoyed the onsen in the hostel, there is an inside one and an outside one each for men and women. Washing machine available which was really handy. More bedding provided if needed.
Communal kitchen area could be cleaned, was a bit dirty and needs more utensils; mugs, cutlery, bowls etc. If you stay here you cannot access the 9 special onsens, you need to stay at a local ryokan. You need to rent towels, or bring your own. No ski drying area so we just dried stuff in the bedroom. A few power cuts whilst we were here but the staff were helpful in trying to get it fixed.
Friendly staff and others staying, offered luggage storage, great location and great value!
Onsen directly in the hostel.Great location next to bus stop, you can even walk to monkey park (1h).Cutest location to stay at, great restaurants around and mini market. Nice cafe for breakfast 3 min walk away.
You have to pay for onsen on arrival 450¥ (no choice)You need to pay for towel + pay for yukata.Basically you pay for anything you want.
Good location, great value, good Japanese experience with futon and kotatsu (this was winter). Luckily we got a room with a great view as well. Onsen was also good :)
Facilities were old but those were within expectations for this price in this location with natural onsen.
Room was spacious and had a private toilet. Shared kitchen, laundry, Wifi and showers/onsen were great, and we were able to leave our luggage before check in and after check out. We also loved the kotatsu - a must have in the winter! Great value for money.Location great for bus routes to Shiga Kogen, Snow Monkeys and Yudanaka Station. There was a small superette a few doors down, and a few small family restaurants nearby too.
Whole property including our room was worn out, dimly lit, dusty and cold. Power outlets seemed a bit dodgy - some hanging out of the wall etc. Room heating was a kerosene heater but no guidance was provided about safe ventilation (thankfully we’d encountered these before). Staff often weren’t at reception e.g. we arrived just before 4pm to check in and nobody turned up until ~4.15pm, nor was anyone around one morning when our heater ran out of gas.Would recommend having a car if staying here - buses were infrequent and unreliable / sometimes didn’t turn up. Walking is ~30 mins to main town area in one direction, and same to Snow Monkeys in the opposite direction - which isn’t ideal in slippery -5 degree weather!
Great location, nice staff. The rooms were nice but could have been cleaner (according to Japanese standards) We can see it's a hotel with a lot of potential, the bath were great also ! I don't know why this hotel has such bad rating. Let's say that I would recommend for people who travel cheap and are not fancy ! Keep in mind that it's a traditional hotel there's no AC, nor heating so the room will be cold if you come during winter ! But you'll have a kotatsu (table with covers and a heater) to keep you warm. There's toilets in the room so very convenient.
Too bad the yukata and towels were not included ! Could be cleaner (we had dust in a corner of the room, nothing dramatic)
The hostel is traditional ryokan which I really liked, it has separate indoor onsen and small outdoor bath. The owner is very friendly. I’m a remote worker and internet worked really well. Close walk or a bus ride to both Monkey Park and the station.
The property is kind of dirty, could be cleaner for sure. Although the bath area was clean. My room had some dead bugs which made me uncomfortable. You can really hear other people talking in your room.
Our room was big and with a private toilet, which was nice.
It is old and very used, but it was clean.
Honestly- I don’t know why this place gets such bad reviews! I stayed here one night and I had a very pleasant stay! I liked my room a lot, it was comfortable spacious and clean and I thought that the owners were very pleasant as well! The room I stayed in was with a shared bathroom. I though the bathroom was clean and I also stashed some food in the refrigerator and that was very clean as well! Of course the building is quite old so overall the place could use a little TLC. But it’s in a great location! The town is cute and quiet, with several onsens, temples and cute shops. But I do agree with every one else akin regards to the extra charges- especially the parking.
the extra fees for EVERYTHING. It just makes more sense to include the parking fee into the price.
The price and the location
Un cleanWe had a hole in the sinkNo a Air conditioner
Great onsen (better than the nine public onsens), fantastic facility (big room, heated table, balcony,...). We were very happy there.
Everything was great!
Location is good since it's the end of commercial walking street/ Onsen street
