Cons -
- staff had very limited english
- We had a very frustrating experience at this hotel. To start, the room was very old and freezing. The radiator was non-functional and the wind was literally blowing the curtains because of the poor insulation. While the staff did eventually move us to a better room, the overall service was poor.Additionally, the "ski-in/ski-out" location was a letdown. We only discovered after renting all our equipment that the main resort was closed, with only one tiny beginner slope open. While the hotel doesn't run the lifts, it is incredibly unfair not to inform guests of this in advance. We spent a lot of money on rentals and a booking that we never would have made had we been told the truth about the slopes. Also, while we don't mind a language barrier, there was a total lack of willingness to help. A major issue is that many things at are cash only, yet there is no ATM on-site. The nearest ATM is 20km away, and to get there, you have to pay a road toll—which also requires cash! This created a "catch-22" situation that the staff seemed completely indifferent to.Between the lack of transparency, the poor room quality, and the "cash only" hurdles, we cannot recommend staying here.
- Breakfast too simple as per usual Japanese hotels for the price, dinner also was not worth the amount of 5500 yen as most of the food was cold. Also there is only stairs for entering the dining room which is a terrible experience for strollers or wheelchair guests, barrier free is non-existent.Onsen toilets are a disaster when it comes to cleanliness.Staff switches from polite Japanese to very casual Japanese as if we are friends, which feels inappropriate.

Loved the place visiting in October. The climate was very pleasant the view from the room was great. The breakfast was also very good with good variety for veg dishes also. The rooms were clean n has a table seating too for family or friends to talk. The onsen was 7 baths with mixed bathing. Swim suits are not allowed and they provide a towel. Can also buy a towel based bathrobe dress for 1100 yen. Which is more comfortable.
There was initial smell when we entered but nothing the room freshener couldn’t handle. There is no AC so summer may be hotter.
Beautiful onsen, great location, spacious rooms.
Incredibly expensive restaurant that you’re forced to use since there’s nothing else around. The food was good, but definitely not worth the price.
Both the outdoor and indoor Onsen are great.Especially the outdoor Onsen is very natural. The temperature is also great.
The rooms are old and not kept very clean. The carpets are dirty, the tapestry is falling off at some places and it needs some renovation in general.
We were there in summer. The onzen was nice However to go into the larger mixed onzen uHave to buy some one-off bathing suits f 11$ which u throw out afterwards . Environmentally a huge waste. Microwave Coffee/tea making in room
Totally isolated. No food option at all, unless u buy their 25$ breakfast and their 50$ buffet . We were 2 vegetarians and one meat eater. Way too expensive to have sone noodles. They should tell u beforehand , so u can bring ur own. They do have microwaved and hot water . It’s just one of these big concrete hotels, a little dated with zero ambience .
The breakfast was okay at least in its traditional Japanese way, all Western products were not too good - rubberlike waffles, tasteless viennoiserie.
The carpeted floors were in an appalling state especially that from the restaurant, there were stains of different sizes and colours everywhere. This came as a shock because we thought everything was clean in Japan.
The hotspring was nice, however neither the hotel’s official website or the details on Booking.com indicated that tattoos were prohibited.
The dining photos and advertisements did not reflect the buffet-style canteen environment, nor the room you ate in which felt like a very old cafeteria with mouldy floors. Additionally, we booked the hotel purely for the hot spring and found out only at the checkin that tattoos were prohibited, so had we known this in advance, we would not have booked this hotel as it was the only good thing about it (outside of the kind staff). We understand that lots of Japanese hot springs do not allow people with tattoos and we respect this, however it is beneficial to know in advance for foreign travellers so we can make the decision to book or not in advance. It’s very misleading marketing on both the Booking.com ad as well as the website as it doesn’t indicate this anywhere, as well as all the photos not giving an accurate representation of the hotel and its facilities.
Room was comfortable and spacious, it was nice view and good eating area and amenities.
Ping pong table had charge and only available for booking.
The outdoor (shared) onsen was amazing.. or as amazing as an onsen can be. It’s mostly open to the cool air and the pools are warm to very hot, and so nice to bathe in and be with your family too.The food was plentiful and very nice but not a stand out to other hotels we’ve been to in Japan offering half board. The room was very spacious and pleasant… as many other people have said, this hotel is dated and there are stains on the carpets but we just looked beyond that and enjoyed being at 1800 metres altitude in an awesome outdoor hot spring. The drive up to the hotel was also exciting and picturesque.
Yes there are stains on carpets and it’s a bit dated but for under $200 AUD with two meals and a great ‘natural’ hot spring you can’t ask for better!
Fantastic baths! It is a long way to get to but definitely worth the visit. The shuttle bus was handy and being able to access the Prince hotel baths too was a nice treat.
Restaurant was extremely expensive.
- outdoor onsens are amazing - worth the money- bufffet breakfast and dinner were delicious and spread was quite good
Of course the Onsen (Natural hot spring baths) were wonderful. The restaurant is also very good and the buffet style allowed us to try many different dishes.
The facility would benefit from a refresh. Some of the carpets were a little tired but still clean.
The location is close to the ski lift and free shuttle bus from station (around 1 hour drive) but remember to book online ahead of your trip. The nature onsen is great if you like the authentic ones, however the facitlity in the onsen area is very basic compare to other onsen hotels or ski resorts we been to.The breakfast is ok.
We have stayed in old hotels in Japan many times and although they are old they are clean and well maintained. The hotel is run down and needs renovation urgently. The hallway carpet, the wall and the elevator all don't look nice at all, we were hoping the room is better, but it is not. The carpet on the floor got marks everywhere. It really needs some work at least get the carpet changed. We initially book 3 nights but after the 1st night we decided to leave, the receiption agree to only charge one night which is nice.
One good aspect was the outdoor onsen, where you can see the beautiful night sky.
You cannot reach this place without a car. No public transportation. Also, it is a not an onsen, as advertised, but rather a ski resort with onsen facility. Since most of the visitors were there for skiing, the entrance of the hotel was filled with people taking off their ski attire and the restaurant was served in a ski lodge-like cafeteria style. Carpet in the room was stained and looked dirty. From the pictures, the facility looked more like a quiet onsen hotel and in the onsen, the changing room where you dry your hair was freezing and I caught a cold after visiting. Overall, there were too many people (even in the onsen) to be able to enjoy the place. It might be better to visit during warmer seasons as it will be quieter.
The children’s play area on the ski slopes
What was on booking.com did not match the facilities. We selected a room with breakfast included- absolutely no meals were included. Every meal at the property had to be paid for separately and it was not was not cheap. The website also said there were private onsens for guests who had tattoos. There were no private onsens and the public one did not allow tattoos, so half the reason we went was not possible. This place was extremely secluded. The only other eating facility was the ski lodge which is open for a limited time and only on the weekends and cash only- there is no atm on the entire mountain. You also had to pay to go on and off the mountain to the resort, which required AWD or snow chains. If this is the way the hotel is run that’s completely okay, but the websites information does not match the amenities therefore we were completely disappointed and unprepared. We checked out early and my friend checked out earlier because they genuinely couldn’t afford to pay for every meal with all of their children which they could’ve planned for if booking.com was truthful on the site.
The location was the best part but there was alot of road closures and hard to navigate vage instructions on how to get there.
I didn't like the facility was dirty and run down. There was mold in the bathroom and the toilet was rusting all over. There was hair all over and the bed frames amd bathroom walls were dirty. The carpet was dirty and damp feeling and you couldn't control the temperature of your own room so it was incredibly hot with no relief because it was raining outside I couldn't open the window. The website falsely advertised a private onsen that we were not permitted to use. And despite paying for breakfast included at the time of booking i was still told I have to pay for breakfast a second time at the hotel. Overall the stay was very disappointing.
very kind staff, good food and nice onsen.thanks for kind?
there is a little mold in room 378 near the window near the curtain.? my husband is allergic to mold…
Good for ski and onsen
Less car park in front of hotel, have to park quite far
