About
This traditional, family-run hotel is located in the heart of the picturesque town of St. Gilgen, only a few steps from the shore of Lake Wolfgang. Recently renovated and enlarged, Hotel Gasthof zur Post GmbH was built in 1330 and flor a long time served as a coaching inn. The foundation and parts of the façade are from the Middle Ages. The building's special charm is reflected in its massive stone walls and floors, the traditional basements and vaults, and the precious wall paintings. At the Gasthof zur Post you can experience the very special atmosphere of a traditional ambiance combined with innovative design. Classic elements such as green loden, a great deal of wood and deer antlers are integrated into the rooms in an original way. Many rooms feature impressive open bathrooms. Enjoy a rich selection of delicious regional and Austrian specialties, traditional fare and seasonal delicacies such as asparagus. The freshly caught fish from Lake Wolfgang is especially popular. All ingredients come from the Salzkammergut region. Over the years Gasthof zur Post has hosted many famous personalities. In August 1784 the wedding of Mozart's sister Anna Maria, nicknamed “Nannerl”, took place here.

Pros +
- Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast very good.
- Amazing staff. Breakfast was above average. Dinner was fantastic.
- The room clean and quiet. The breakfast is awesome, the staff comes to me and ask whether I need anything that was not on the table. I recommend this Hotel.
Cons -
- No coffee maker in room. No refrigerator to store our cheese and meats. Staff helpful.Price for rooms very high compared to the same quality you could get elsewhere.
- Towels needed to be improved. They looked shabby.
- I stayed in room 209. The floor in the shower area and hand washing area is sloped. The overflow prevention in the shower area was not done well and caused the floor in the hand washing area to be full of water after taking a shower. Families with elderly and small children should be careful to wear non-slip shoes!

Fantastic hotel in a brilliant position, exceptional staff; fabulous breakfast and wonderful evening meals, rooms were immaculate and kept so by great staff - a stunning summer week thanks to all
A mini fridge would be a nice addition but otherwise nothing at all
Wonderful hotel. Clean, comfortable and the staff work so hard and are so helpful and accommodating. Some of the best food in town at the onsite restaurant. The location is terrific, the hotel is beautiful, warm and inviting - it's like living in a fairytale.
Came on the spur of the moment--rented a car from Prague. Very friendly staff, great location, clean rooms. Great view. Just an amazing experience all around. Loved it!
Great hotel, supper locationVery cleanBreakfast was deliciousStaff was kindWe had a really great timeThank you
Everthing was great!
Location and staff are great
nature and silence
The owners went out of their way to make sure we are welcome even though we arrived late once the reception has already closed. Thank you!
Nothing really, we spent only one day in the hotel, but we had a great time in a great location
Great location, very helpful staff, good breakfast
Perfect location, easy access for cable car and for the boat to explore wolfgangsee.Sankt Gilgen has brilliant atmosphere.Very nice breakfast.
The hotel is charming. Just what you expect of an "Old World" Bohemian style respite. The heavy furnature, the warm cozy blankets.
I wasn't impressed with the coffee. Instant! And I'd read so much praise for the wonderful Austrian coffee. I didn't get a good cup anywhere in the country.
Great location for trips around Wolfgangsee. Staff were friendly and helpful with everything. We didn’t have a time to visit wellness but it looked super nice. Maybe next time :)
Keeping old furniture, using old construction elements typical for that area, and complete design of rooms and hotel gives you comfy, warm feel. Breakfast was really great, from selection of drinks and food to lovely servise personnel. Location is fantastic, on small square, opposite from city hall, beautiful position. Also in walking distance from everything.
Not so much to write, just some minor things. Like internet in hotel is way too slow. I was on vacation so i don't mind it, just for email was ok. Second thing is parking, it is behind hotel but sometimes overcrovded so sometimes you need to move 2 cars before to get out.On public parking lot (free for hotel guests) you can find place, but it's narrow, just for driver to get out. But also this is not so big deal, we.uaed bikes, foot more.
Location fantastic.Nice room and breakfast. Restaurant food and service superb. The area is incredible for natural beauty.
Could have maybe done with aircon. The weather was changeable so leaving the window open was a bit hit and miss.
The Gasthof was very historic dating back to 1415 and the decor was full of Austrian charm. The breakfast was continental but plentiful with cooked eggs offered daily. The food in the restaurant was delicious so we ate there twice though did try a couple of other eateries in the town too( all lovely). The Staff were very polite, attentive and rightly proud of their culture, all wearing dirndls. St Gilgen is gorgeously quaint. The Gasthof is opposite the colourful Rathaus and just a 5 minute walk to the stunning Wolgangsee lake. It was my favourite town in the whole area and a super base to explore the Salzkammergut. I’m so glad we stayed and would absolutely recommend to others.
Bed was a little firm for us ( but that’s personal taste)and there was no fridge/ safe in the room, but the charm of the hotel made up for this.
Cute. Right in city center. Very friendly staff.
