Pros +
- Service Location Room was very nice Great breakfast
- We were able to watch the aurora borealis from our room. We were warman comfortable. The location was great and we were able to walk the pseudo craters in the morning before we start our travels for the day.
- location by the lake and walking paths; breakfast included' availability of free tea/coffee anytime (very important for me); room with table and chair and drawers and closet
Cons -
- A lot of flies in and out the windows
- not much food options for those allergic to dairy; not many options for vegetarian proteinaceous food made without animal fat or stock. having small refrigerator would have been good especially for vacationers with mutilple days stays.
- We stayed several days in summer and while there are midges it truly was not bad at all. We brought headnets but didn’t really use them.

Amazing location. Rooms super clean, spacious with comfortable beds, updated feel in the rooms despite older hotel. Common spaces are kitschy and fun. Lobby coffee machine was awesome. Staff were great, dining delicious

Lovely breakfast and the room was large and clean
Eggs at breakfast were a little dry, but other than that it was fantastic and had a large selection of food
Cozy beds, great restaurant, Myvatn Ol brewery on property! We didnt try the hot tubs and instead went a very close distance to Myvatn Bath hot springs! Wish we had one more day here! oh and- there was an alert you can sign up if the northern lights were out!
Excellent breakfast buffet with a selection of traditional Icelandic dishes like pickled herring! The staff were friendly and helpful answering our questions. They have a hot tub nearby and provide guests with thick robes to wear-ask for them at the front desk. The front desk also has a coffee station. The lobby is decorated with taxidermied birds and animals local to the area. We recommend the nearby bird museum and the park headquarters.
We arrived around 8:30 and the restaurant was too busy to get seated. We were allowed to eat a pizza at the bar.
The location was very good, with a view of small craters from the room window. The staffs were nice and helpful. The room was soundproof, spacious and not cramped with soft and comfortable mattress. Breakfast was tasty and plenty of choices.
The hallway to the room was a bit complicated.
Helpful staff gave us recommendations of things to do in the area given the amount of time we had. Room was quiet and we had a great view. Beds were comfy, linens nice. We arrived in the evening and had dinner at the on-site restaurant. That was convenient, food was good, service was quick. Breakfast had a large selection. We stayed off season in a "family" room (room for 4) even though there was only of 2 of us. Wanted the extra space. The common/lobby area is large, there is a pool table. The restaurant bar area was quiet and comfortable, it you're looking to get out of your room.
This is an older hotel, that has been update and well kept, but still has an "old" vibe. Door key was not electronic, and was tricky to use (turn key 360-degrees ++). When we booked we saw a picture of a "family room" with a couch/lounge area, we wanted that room (wanted a larger room). Reached out to reservation and received email reply saying we would get "that" room. What we really got was a handicap accessible room with 2 club chairs, 2 dining chairs. The handicap bathroom sink was the size of a shoebox and half the depth of a shoebox. The kettle was plastic and smelled like it was melting when heated. They have a self service coffee station with hot water in the lobby which is what we used instead of the kettle (inconvenient).
Nice location, cozy room and great staff. The restaurant is super nice and well served. Also, they provide a wake up call in case of northern lights, which is great.
The staff were friendly, the room was good, spacious and clean. Great lobby area, and the property was in a great location.. The breakfast was nice and had plenty of options
The bathroom was old, but still spacious.
Staff alerted us to the Northern Lights outside and was very helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Dinner was delicious. Hot tubs were comfy
This property sits right in the heart of geothermal activity—there were craters right outside our window! We loved being able to walk around the lake and nearby craters, then drive to other geothermal spots to explore. Breakfast was included (huge plus!), and the staff were super friendly—even offering a Northern Lights wake-up call.
Elevator, strong high pressure water in the shower, breakfast is crazy good.Dinner price is relatively OK and it was ready quickly. There's a gas pump at the hotel (no tire inflator however).
There were annoying guests at the reception asking the clerk to call their whale watching company (???) while I'm waiting in line! It took them maybe 15 minutes. Why is the reception doing that?? There was no language barrier, she spoke English with the whale watching company, and the guests spoke English with her.Menu is a bit lacking, half of it is vegan. No clothes / towels hangers in room & shower.Room was hot and I didn't open the windows because of midges, so I used my portable fan. I recommend bringing one.Although the windows were closed, I heard noises from outside such as Buggy vehicles standing by the hotel filling up gas for almost an hour in the evening.
good location
portion size of meals from alacarte menu weer too small. NOt a value for the money
The room was comfortable. Happy hour was a treat. Liked being called to see the lights. Staff was great
Want to see the northern lights? This hotel will wake you up if you want when it's there, so clean, great staff, amazing breakfast, big room and bathroom, tv, free parking and free good wifi.
Interior had all we needed!! Comfy beds. Easy check in.
Exterior is mis-leading!!
Good location, spacious room, great breakfast and dinner. (Large portions)hot tubs and sauna were really relaxing and the end of the day.
Could upgrade some furniture
Good location and breakfast. Rooms good for families but dated furniture.
Room furniture old and room dark. Not much space between three beds.
