    Pros +

    • Beautiful property. Idea of using a school for a summer hotel for travelers was a unique and positive concept. Complimentary movie in the school theatre was a nice extra. Excellent complimentary breakfast buffet in the morning.
    • I loved the set-up, privacy, and the breakfast. The staff were very kind and helpful!
    • Convenient location near Myvatin. This is a boarding school in the winter that doubles as a hotel in the summer. The rooms are what you would expect for a dormitory but were comfortable. The food was great (a good thing since there are no convenient restaurants in the area).

    Cons -

    • The hotel room is huge but without adequate furniture inside. A few more shelf, chairs and tables will make it more comfortable.
    • I didn't love that we got there late and our room was not done being cleaned, so we sat in the hall by the stairs for a bit. I loved that they offered laundry service, but it was 28$ USD for two bags of clothes (their bags). They came very nice and clean. We found out later that we would have access to cheaper laundry at our next 2 stops on this trip. The food was very expensive, and the quality was not that of a fine restaurant. It was still good though. Overall, it was a nice place to stop and I would stay here again all while keeping the above in mind.
    • The pool and recreation center were closed due to renovations. A small quibble since it was too cold to swim outside.

The hotel was located in a nice area which is well maintained. The breakfast had many options to choose from. The room was nice and clean. All was just right.

    Really, nothing to complain about.

    The breakfast was great

The view from our room wasn't very good compared to what I was expecting. Laundry was available but super expensive.

Wonderful place. We stayed for 2 nights. Excellent breakfast with a wide selection of food. Nice quiet clean dorm room with big windows (no TV though). Very helpful staff.

Clean, warm, comfortable bed, clean shower, and plenty of parking. We had a nice dinner at the restaurant. Friendly personal. Breakfast was good. We stayed 1 night.

The hotel becomes a boarding school in the off season. The rooms are pretty basic which is understandable. Don’t expect anything fancy.

Good location, Clean, and kind staff.

    Many flies in this area.

Breakfast was great. Staff was nice.

The noise in the hall way and the door need to be improved.

Hótel Laugar was simple yet delightful, offering a perfect base for exploring the Mývatn region. I enjoyed a refreshing glass of beer on the main building's patio during the early evening, which was a lovely way to unwind. The highlight of my stay was taking a walk under the midnight sun, "setting" over the small village of Laugar. I strolled along a grassy path toward the houses, following a brook. The fields of wildflowers, the river winding down in the valley, and the soft lavender hues of the sky made the experience unforgettable. It was a truly peaceful and memorable moment during my stay.

The breakfast was good. I didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner because the food looked pricey (like much in Iceland). Otherwise it was great. At first I thought it would have been nice to stay closer to Myvatn, but this place looked better than anything I saw there. It's also a bit closer to Husavik if you're going whale watching, and to Godafoss, so the location turned out to be better than I initially thought.

Clean, warm, comfortable beds and shower with a rain option. Breakfast was continental - rich and delicious. It's 1h away from Myvatn and very close to Godafoss waterfall. Laundry service and plenty of parking available.

Adding a mini fridge in the room would be nice but not essential.

    - very good location if you want to visit Husavik or Godafoss - the best breakfast we’ve had in Iceland - Staff was very very friendly and gave us a lot of information on the sites - just want to mention there’s a gas station and also a small supermarket and restaurant close by in case you want to refill your car or your stomach :)

Nice place, which becomes hotel from school. Nice personel. Good food in the restaurant, good breakfast.

    6JianPosted on: 8-11-2024

This is not a hotel, just a dormitory. There is only a bed and a chair with desk. Nothing else.

    7ChristophPosted on: 8-7-2024

    Excellent food in the restaurant...

No TV, room felt more like in a hostel...

    8KirstenPosted on: 8-7-2024

The rooms were lovely, spacious and clean, the staff were friendly, great location and fabulous breakfast!

    9AnnPosted on: 8-6-2024

Great value for stay. Staff were super friendly and accomodating. Rooms were spacious, clean, quiet, and well heated. Breakfast had an excellent selection.

    8MarcPosted on: 8-5-2024

We stayed there for 1 night beginning of August 2024 and were positively surprised with the size of our room. The staff was very nice and helpful and the free breakfast was yummy. The hotel is actually quite big, and features several buildings. The remote location in the countryside makes it charming.

The room was quite hot and only had a single, very small window that could actually be opened. Despite leaving the window open the entire night, the temperature in the room did not fall below 22 degrees.
