Cons -
- Old fashioned rooms. Dirty, horrible mouldy showers and moth ball smells
- There were no tea making facilities in the bedroom or complementary water. There was only a hand held shower nozzle over the bath which had a sloping roof - no good for my 6ft 2 husband. Not a huge choice for breakfast - all cold
- Very sad inside. We had stayed previously and enjoyed the restaurant. Sadly this was not open. It is in desperate need of a makeover. We had hoped for a relaxing nights stay and lovely meal.

Dinner for a Sunday night was excellent. Charming garden for walking round
Breakfast was a bit dull.
We really enjoy this hotel which is the reason why we have stayed here on three separate occasions. We travel in France with our dog and this hotel is very welcoming and has extensive grounds. The ease of parking is a bonus. We usually dine at the onsite restaurant, The Distillerie and this time was no exception. The food is excellent and the restaurant has an upbeat but relaxing vibe. The plat du jour option of poulet et frîtes was delicious - especially with a nice bottle of Sancerre. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Everything was spotlessly clean. This has been our best stay yet.
We liked everything - breakfast was good but maybe a few more options would be nice.
A most attractive building kept in immaculate condition .
Formerly an enormous beautifully constructed and maintained building with adjacent distillery .Conveniently placed close to the autoroute.
Lovely property and friendly, helpful staff. Great parking. We ate at Le Vasco in the evening - the meal was good. Breakfast was excellent too
The rooms and bathrooms are exceptionally comfortable and well equipped. The building and garden is stunning. The restaurants serve variety of delicious food and drinks.
The hotel has some history and was spacious and comfortable with nice grounds to walk in. It was also in a good location for our purposes
There was little activity/life in the common areas as this appears to be a hotel used mostly for business people and the staff came across as being a little 'preoccupied'
Beuatiful place, with lovely restaurants, nice staff and spacious rooms. Safe parking. Food was delicious.
The gardens and location was fabulous. The wild bits. One of the receptionists was efficient and kind. The distilleries restaurant were welcoming and efficient, the food delicious
Windows that didn’t open. It felt a sad place, not like it used to when Monsieur C was alive. Some of the staff were off hand.
I liked the building. It was beautiful and very much accurate to the pictures. The staff were helpful and it's a great place to go with a dog as it is very pet friendly. Dogs are allowed to sit in the restaurant and there's a beautiful and large garden area for walks.
The castle was beautiful but the plumbing problems made our entire room smell like a sewer but the staff gave us air freshener for the room and as long as we kept the windows open, it was okay. The dinner took 5 hours and we left early because it was getting too late (we started at 19.00 and left at 23.30 missing out on the last course we paid for -we mentioned this to the waitress and she very kindly offered us the desserts to go).
The choice of dining, the restaurant quality, the seating areas and the salon
Some of the carpets are quite tired, the room was gorgeous but a little small
Wonderful rooms, delicious breakfast, free parking and nice restaurants nearby ♥️
Surroundings were beautiful, staff kind and accommodating. Overall, it was a great holiday.
There was no way to get in touch with any staff after hours when we required some help. All was good in the end but it was w bit frustrating at the time.
The location is great close to the motorway. Plenty of parking. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, speaking English. But the highlight was the in house restaurant. The food and paired wine recommendations were just delicious. We had a really enjoyable evening. The room was a reasonable size, warm and clean. But, see below for other comments on the room.
We booked a standard room, but paid a deluxe price. Very poor value for money. The carpet was in places literally thread bare and stained. As was some of the furniture. The bed had a torn cover sheet. Overall the room décor was very tired and in need of renovation.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Parking was convenient. Our room was comfortable and spacious situated in a lovely quiet area of the hotel. The Distillery restaurant for our evening meal was excellent and we were made welcome, special thanks to the wine waiter.
The floor tiles in the bathroom looked stained not sure if they were dirty or worn especially around the toilet area, didn’t look very nice. There were a lot of guests for breakfast due to a company event unfortunately there was no one to oversee the breakfast room one of the coffee machines was out of order and the scrambled eggs ran out, we had to find someone to ask for this to be replenished We were on a road trip through France and Switzerland, La Chartreuse was the only hotel of the 7 we stayed in that did not offer tea/coffee making facilities or a complimentary bottle of water in our room, we felt this should be available for the price charged.
Lovely old building and great restaurant
Poor breakfast and dirty tables outside
I was travelling back from the alps with two dogs. I have stopped here a few times before on the same journey. They were as always exceptional. I have two big dogs (Hungarian viszlas) and they accommodated them beautifully. restaurant was great and an amazing outside space where my two boys could run around. I would like to think my boys are very well adjusted and well behaved so not a huge high light for the hotel but even so I loved their attitude towards dogs being all access and well accepted. Beyond that it is a lovely and reasonably priced place to stay near the tunnel for a great night and an event of an evening rather. than just somewhere to crash in transit.
Decent meal in the brasserie .
Upon arrival we were told that the main hotel car park was reserved for a vintage car rally and that we could not use it . We were not even permitted to unload our luggage there . We were not offered any help to carry our bags from the subsidiary car park which was a fair distance away .We could not eat in the principal restaurant because it had also been taken over by the vintage car rally . We ate in the brasserie instead where in fairness we had a decent meal .The receptionist was unhelpful and not at all interested when we mentioned our disappointment at the above .One of the bath robes in the room we stayed in was not clean
