    Pros +

    • Location is good. Self check in was clear. But that's about it. It was the last thing available in the area on short notice and now I know why.
    • Rooms were excellent, great location. Place was extremely clean. Very cozy and hospitable!
    • If you like old fashioned, one-of-a-kind places (like we do) 'De Leeuw' is for you! Our room was large and had a funky old sink/fridge/cooktop console, as well as a comfortably large (for Holland) bathroom. 'De Leeuw' is set up like an Airbnb in some ways - you get a code to pick up your key, and you may not see the staff at all during your stay. But it still has a very personal feel. They've provided lots of local info about the history of De Leeuw, the city, biking in the area, etc. If the weather's good, there are cozy ground level and upstairs decks with tables where you can set up your own breakfast. They have games and information in the rooms. Exactly what we were looking for.

    Cons -

    • The room feels like it was once a smoking room, but not anymore and hasn't really been properly cleaned since. Like your great-aunt has a back room with rundown furniture she keeps in case someone stays over with her once in a blue moon. Maybe I hoped for old-Dutch charm when I saw the pictures, but found everything felt or looked dirty and the room smelled like there was mold hiding somewhere. Way too overpriced for what it was. Would not stay again.
    • Only thing I could think of is that there is a washer/dryer, but we were unable to use them.
    • We thought the beds were actually very comfortable, but they are low and very soft, so might not be for everyone. The TV did not work easily, which wasn't a big deal for us.

    Location

Instructions re accommodation were insufficient. Key didn’t work properly. Communication with reception was not available until next day around 3pm. No breakfast available. No internet until 3pm next fay.

Very nice breakfast. Tailored to the wishes of the guest with attention to preventing waste.Authentic building.

    10JohnPosted on: 4-26-2024

The breakfast was excellent - breads, yoghurt, plenty of fruit. The location is fantastic - in a quaint, period building with lots of old pictures and a room stuffed with old Dutch period items. The bathroom was fine.Hortance was very helpful as she was servicing a group of us who traveled there for work. We appreciated her flexibility in allowing 2 other couples in our group, staying in a different hotel, to eat breakfast there (for a reasonable fee).

A slightly firmer mattress would have been nice, but we are used to a fairly firm mattress. We slept fine though.

Location is excellent! Middle of town, easy walk from train station. Close to everything. Very old building with lots of character. Each room is a separate part of the building, like a bed and breakfast. Very homey. Enough space in the rooms, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Hosts were friendly and accommodating.

Liked everything. For those considering staying here, this is a unique bed and breakfast-like hotel, and not a new Hilton. Don’t leave a bad review because it’s ‘dated’. That’s part of the charm. And the building is from the 1600s.

Lovely, large room in 19th century style. Clean, quiet and cosy. Bathroom, with bath was fine. Breakfast brought up to the room and very friendly owner and staff. Location is fantastic. Wonderful place!

That we could only stay for 2 nights

Quaint hotel in the middle of Deventer. Very comfortable and excellent picnic breakfast included.

    10UnknownPosted on: 4-22-2021

Excellent communication from the host, a private and lovely location, a truly comfy room with beautiful Dutch MCM furniture. I was there for my Mom's funeral and it was a calm base to come back to after hard days. Down bedding (or a convincing alternative) made it a very cozy place to cocoon and mourn. It's smack dab in the middle of all the good stuff, in the old city, but tucked away in a courtyard. Oh! Also! They give you a huuuuge breakfast picnic basket every morning. I can definitely see going back with a lover or friend, or for another solo stay.
