    Pros +

    • The hotel is located in the heart of Alkmaar right at the cheese market. The room was clean and the bed was really comfortable.
    • Wonderful location in the historic district, friendly and helpful staff, and charming small hotel with a first class restaurant on the ground floor.
    • Excellent location near the main square. Big, spacious room.

    Cons -

    • Unfortunately, I didn't feel very welcome, as the guy who checked me in was really zoned out, which I mostly attribute to being a solo traveler (wouldn't be the first time). A lot of the lights in the room didn't work or flickered incessantly and there was no way to let fresh air in, as the windows were really hard to open. The bathroom had a ridiculously open concept, as it had no door and no shower curtain, which meant that I had to mop the entire floor every time I got out of the shower (and I was really careful, I don't know how flooded the bathroom is, after a child or a less dextrous person). The bathroom is also not really accessible, as there is a fairly high step into the shower without any hand rails or anything else to assist people with disabilities.
    • All was good.
    • Did not quite like the open bathroom concept.

Did not quite like the open bathroom concept.

The room was absolutely beautiful, and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in! Added bonus - the windows open to let plenty of fresh air in, which seems to be rare in hotels these days. Lovely staff too.

Easy to reach, in the heart of the city, very comfortable and clean

It’s in the perfect position to hear the city bells

Lovely hotel above a bistro style restaurant, character rooms in the old part of beautifulAlkmaar. Friendly staff and everything clean and tidy

There isn’t a lift; not a worry for me

    8Haim B.Posted on: 3-6-2025

In the old city very close to attractions

There is no way to come with the carWe have to carry our luggage to the hotel

    10CraigPosted on: 9-20-2024

Bed was very comfy, location of hotel is great for access to the town but as its centrally located parking next to hotel is not possible. OK for us travelling on bikes. A good breakfast.

    Room decoration, warm hospitallity, location

Very good location. Very clean. In a nice central area. Quieky

    Bathroom within bedroom.

Very small and cozy hotel, right above the restaurant. Staff was amazing, lots of tips and very helpful.

You may want to have ear plugs as it’s easy to hear movements in the corridor

    8MargitaPosted on: 7-22-2024

The personnel very attentive and eager to help out, the nice decoration of the room and the geographical situation in the middle of the old town

The only negative point was the ventillation outside near the terrase - it was noisy until late in the evening (restaurant) and started in the morning - we could not have the windows open and it was hot - and the air conditining we did not want to use as too cold and noisy normally

Room was amazingly comfortable and I love the little balcony we were in the Tuscan room. It was in the perfect location to go see the cheese market and also pretty much all the sightseeing. Also had a lovely breakfast

Real boutique hotel feeling with beautiful designed, clean and comfy rooms. Great location, in the heart of Alkmaar.

The entrance is through the restaurant. There is no separate hotel check in desk.

    8HelenPosted on: 6-23-2024

This was a boutique hotel in a very central location. Above a bistro. The Web site said no meal plan available but we were able to book breakfast on check in.Our room was very tastfully decorated but we are not fans of no door on bathroom which seems to be a current trend and quite unnessary in our opinion. Breakfast was individual including various breads, cheese and yogurt etc. Free tea and coffee on landing.

Toilet/bathroom with no door for privacy

    6CatharinaPosted on: 6-1-2024

    The staff was very nice.

I didn't like the open toilet and the open shower. It was impossible to close the toilet and the shower.

    7NeilPosted on: 5-12-2024

Beautiful room in a beautiful building. Superb location. Staff were fantastic.

It’s quite a noisy hotel, from people passing in the street and local nightlife so keep that in mind if it’s an issue for you. I think they could improve their check in procedure, there was no one there when I arrived and the door was locked which was a little worrying. A simple sign on the door with instructions would have reassured me.

    9BarendPosted on: 5-4-2024

Breakfast was great en veruy nice. Large choice and good quality.

The street is a bit noisy due to passing people from the main suare, but those are the perks of being really downtown.

    6RickyPosted on: 4-25-2024

The size of the room and decoration.

There it advertises the rooms with a balcony but no smoking is allowed…. For the price I would want to be allowed to smoke on the balcony / terrace.

    10MichaelPosted on: 4-14-2024

Very comfortable, spacious and well equipped room in the heart of historic Alkmaar. Friendly staff and a lovely breakfast.
