Romantik Hotel-Restaurant Altenberger Hof

Location, clean, authentic, great service

Beautiful setting and building, rooms very comfortable and spacious

Only minor issue was no hot drink making facility in room. Reception did make us some coffee though as bar etc not open

Nice place for chilled and quiet couple of days. On churchbells in a tranquile environment

No dinner on Wednesdays as the restaurant is closed. You need to go to a restaurant in neighboring Odenthal

-nice rooms-very beautiful and quite environment (except until dusk when it weather is nice and all the crazy bikers are out on the roads to torture their equipment)-nice trails in through nature allow for extended walks/hikes through nature-excellent restaurant

the reckless insane bikers but it can hardly be blamed on the hotel (it is in the distance only and the rooms are very quiet)

Used to be more personal and better

We were here this weekend and last weekend as well (it’s close to my parents in law), and in general we visited it often. We have a dog, that was announced and discussed by phone. At checkout we were going to pay for the dog, and chief-checkout lady insinuated we had not announced the dog, and that the room we were in did not allow dogs. The owner (the princess she said, as if someone cares) didn’t like dogs there ? (but they placed us in this room, weird)… Besides, that room was way smaller than we normally have, with extreme hard and small bed, and mini bathroom. But same price as always.. . On top of all this mischief the lady made a comment (joke?) that “she could offer my wife a job in the kitchen, as they always need people”. Just very weird and impolite. Reason not to go any more to this hotel, after over ten visits last few years.

As a birthday present for my wife, I booked already in December a table for a romantic dinner in the restaurant that belongs to the hotel. But upon arrival (we received a reminder of our table reservation 24 hours before arrival!!!) we were told that the restaurant was closed on Wednesday and that they booked a table for us in Küchenhof, a kind of bistro next to the hotel. It was expensive, the waiter was one of the strangest persons we have ever seen in a restaurant and the experience was not at all what we expected and that we know from the restaurant in Hotel Altenberg. We loved the old-world charm of the hotel and its location, looking onto the Dom Altenberger.

One member of staff could have been more helpful and offered an alternative when my daughter arrived late for breakfast, instead of bluntly telling her the restaurant was closed.

Staff was wonderful.

The first night, the fish I received was cold. I expected a bit more for this level of hotel. The portions were a bit on the light side as well. We ordered more bread to feel more satisfied.

This is a very nice hotel in a really quiet area which I am keen to explore on our next visit. The staff and owners are wonderful and friendly and obviously very proud of their hotel. The evening meal we had was exceptional and the breakfast varied and plentiful. We only stopped one night on our way back home but it was truly memorable. And make sure you take time to look in the huge Dom (church) which is right next to the hotel. Very impressive.

While tea or coffee making facilities would have been appreciated we had brought our own. The room was comfortable, clean and had great views of the 'dom'.We really enjoyed the local walks, the bells and organ recital in the 'dom'.Breakfast was fabulous, so much choice, great service. Fresh flowers on the table ensured the restaurant lived up to the 'Romantik' label.

Nothing to dislike.

We love this hotel and have stayed here many times. Great quiet location with wonderful woods all around. Hotel restaurant is excellent but other restaurants are within easy reach with many choices from top class to average.

The bathroom have been updated but are not as well furnished as before.

Lively, peaceful hotel in an amazing natural setting next to the cathedral.
