Pros +
- I loved the ambiance, food, service from the staff and room decor
- The setup of the loft was good.
- Lovely staff. Although the breakfast area was a bit all over the show, the variety and options were great. Breakfast was delicious.
Cons -
- A slight housekeeping oopsie on my first night but it was rectified really quick and the rest of the stay was amazing
- We ordered (rather pricey) room service. It took an hour to arrive and all the food was cold. The room did not have a cooler box or bar fridge, as advertised, although one was provided upon request. There was a mix-up with our breakfast packages the first morning, which meant we had to ask for credit to eat dinner at the restaurant and had to scramble to get some breakfast before we were due at our appointment. Booking.com did not allow me to indicate that 4 people would be staying in the loft. I sent a inquiry to the hotel re possible additional cost payable about 2 months in advance, but was only informed a few days before our trip that I had to pay a rather high amount extra per child for breakfast each morning. My frustration is not about having to pay, it is with the long delay between inquiring about additional cost and getting a response. If I knew about the additional R430 pd I might have looked for other alternatives in the higher price per night range.
- I specifically called ahead of time to ask if the loft had a microwave and was told yes. We arrived and there was no microwave.

The breakfast was very good, the hotel is in a good neighbourhood
The WiFi password didn’t work, the pool was prohibited, the tv had only one channel which were not familiar with
The safari wine tour starts and ends outside the hotel
Every night 6pm they phone you as a courtesy. If I have a problem I will advise. I was always having a nap
Good Breakfast. Courteous staff. Comfy beds.
Although the room was furnished also as a kitchen, there was no plates, extra mugs etc.. My booking mentioned a kitchen. Some of the bathroom towels was old and tattered. The steps up to the lounge and pool area could only be reached by steep steps. I have a bad back and I was hesitant to use the stairs. The private function and dining was a disappointment. The meat was extremely tough. No dessert and coffee after dinner we had to purchase. We paid a pretty penny for a dinner.
I attended a professional training course at the hotel.
The shower in the (spacious) bathroom is very small and impractical. I would suggest a upgrade to make showers bigger and/or removal of bath in bathroom. This would be a water-saving-friendly solution
Location, staff and accommodation.
Every member of the staff was exceptionally helpful and welcoming, making our stay truly enjoyable. In particular, Everisto Masvikeni went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of our visit was comfortable and pleasant. His dedication, attentiveness, and warm hospitality did not go unnoticed, and he played a significant role in enhancing our overall experience. Everisto is undoubtedly a valuable asset to Protea Hotel Durbanville, and his outstanding service reflects the hotel's commitment to excellence.
Staff friendly
Corridors were dirty plus it’s a carpet,Sunday afternoon had to remind them that my room was not cleaned and worse there was a party at the pool area close to my room, the noise was too much
Functional accommodation with efficient staff
Bedroom free space very limited with a large bed
Lovely hotel with beautiful decor and finishing touches. The breakfast buffet was exceptional, with a wide variety to choose from and the restaurant staff were amazing, always ready to offer another coffee or bring us some more bread. We enjoyed the pool and sunbeds, such a nice way to relax after a hot day out.
Room was very spacious and comfortable, breakfast was a big variety of different dishes to choose from
Some tourist maps and brouchers of Cape Town and surrounding areas
The staff were very friendly, especially the ladies in the front desk and a elderly gentlemen. They are very helpful.
My room suite 102 - Upon checking in, there were guests eating lunch right outside my window so I couldn't open the curtains as they were looking right inside, and I needed to get ready for a wedding. The bathroom, especially the shower, could also do with a good deep clean.
Friendly staff, excellent breakfast, clean room with balcony
The ac in the room is quite loud but still managed to sleep well
Staff are very friendly The room we stayed in was spacious and clean Overall, great service Will definitely recommend
Great location, very good breakfast. Perfect for what we needed.
We had to ask for a safe as we didn't have one in the room upon arrival and we also had to ask for the fridge to be replaced as it was broken. The maintenance team sorted it out quickly. They also brought us a tv with Netflix as the original one in the room was older.
The staff was helpful.
The hotel is quite old, they need to refurbish the hotel. Tue dining area, passages, bathrooms and aircons. The fridge in our room was not properly working and they put 1 teaspoon for coffee and 2 mugs which doesn't make sense. I questioned the cleaning ladies, she told me it's a hotel rule.
The staff was amazing and always friendly. The breakfast was great with a huge selection to choose from. The dinner area was very spacious and the selection of food was great. Overall a great experience.
The air-conditioning did not mess up my sinuses.Breakfast was very good, with multiple options, catering for every taste.
