    Pros +

    • It was quiet.
    • Location, amenities, friendly staff, and comfortable decor that felt perfectly at home.
    • The mountain view from our balcony was lovely!

    Cons -

    • It was over-priced. You advertised "free breakfast" but that was a lie. Breakfast cost about $20. You advertised "airport shuttle" but none existed. That too was a lie. The mini-bar was empty except for slightly chilled water.
    • The room was a bit small, but adequate.
    • Breakfast is very limited, staf are not friendly, they don’t accept even a remark ! Eggs machine wasn’t functional, we stayed 4 nights with same problem. No water in room until the first day. Not in relation with the value we paid

I had the most wonderful stay at Excelsior. The staff are excellent at what they do. I had the best conversations with Laila, Chloe, and Robert; each one of them took extra care to ensure my stay was lovely and relaxed. The level of professionalism and friendliness is truly phenominal and I will certainly be bringing my family and friends back!Everyone at the bar and the restaurant was absolutely wonderful, and my stay could not have been better. I had the most relaxed time ever. The breakfast and dinner variety was superb, the room was cozy, spacious, and clean, the views were breathtaking, and most importantly, the proximity to the train station Le Tines was super close! I recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxed stay in Chamonix. You will have the most wonderful time.

I didn’t and up staying. I left in the morning after arriving after midnight.

It was far from the city, the room was not up to standard didn’t look like the photos. It looked very unsanitary.

The hotel is really nice, very close to Chamonix downtown and has a wonderful outdoor pool and restaurant overlooking the mountains. The staff is very friendly.

No air conditioning in the room. The hotel provided a fan but it was still really hot in the room. We visited in August and temperatures reached 30C.

No glass for the showerNeed to have fan during summer as room becomes really hot

Very clean, the receptionist was incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was immaculate and we also enjoyed having the spa to ourselves. There is also a free car park on site which is useful as the hotel is a 10-15 min drive from Cham depending on where you’re going. Thoroughly enjoyed and would stay again!

    8AbdulrahmanPosted on: 4-11-2025

I liked the gesture from the staff when they upgraded our room to one butter after we found a spot on the floor looked like puke. The only thing that was needed to improve that there are no A/C and could be hot during the day. However everything else was nice.

    10RoryPosted on: 3-29-2025

Very nice room, crisp, contemporary and good space with very particularly good cupboard/storage space and very good en suite; all staff very friendly and helpful.

    7ThiPosted on: 3-29-2025

Like the overall quality but it is very misleading with the ‘spa’ feature. In countries like France, Italy, and even Switzerland if we book a ‘spa’ hotel, spa (sauna, pool, steam rooms, etc.) is all included and no time limit. This hotel charges extra and pool is closed for winter..

I like this hotel very much so it is a shame that on my latest visit there were a few things that I found disappointing (see below). It sits on its own in Les Tines, at least an hour’s walk from the centre of Chamonix, but it is very conveniently placed both for the local bus service and the train station. The rooms are comfortable and well-appointed. There is a pleasant bar and good spa and in the summer the large outdoor swimming pool is a real asset. The ski room is well fitted out and spacious, with individual locked cabinets with plenty of space for skis, poles and boots; and in winter there is a ski concession on the hotel premises available for ski and boot hire, The wifi is excellent. Breakfast is adequate without being outstanding. Perhaps most important, the people are unfailingly pleasant and helpful. The overall four-star rating is perhaps slightly flattering but thee days the four-star rating is a very flexible one and the hotel is not alone in this respect.

There were two experiences that tarnished my most recent (March 2025) visit. The rooms are described as being equipped with “Nespresso Machine & Teas”. What it doesn’t say is that four Nespresso capsules are provided and if you want more you have to buy them at a euro each. I have no objection to that if you are staying for one night. But I had booked for nine nights and was told the same rule still applied so that once I had used my allowance of four I had to buy more. This seemed unduly parsimonious, especially given that my towels and even my bath robes were replaced regularly. Providing at least one capsule per person per day would seem fairer. I was also disappointed by the variable quality of the restaurant service in the evenings. The hotel’s website describes the restaurant in glowing terms and its prices are certainly as high as some of the better local restaurants at Les Praz such as Le Castel and Cabane. The first time I ate there, I had the tuna tartare (15€) and the trout fillet (29€) and they were both good. However on my second visit I had the French onion soup (12€) and the lamb rack (35€) and I can only describe both of them as shameful. The soup consisted more of lumps of mushy bread than of soup. And the “lamb rack” (35€) consisted of two soggy lamb cutlets consisting of a lot more fat than lean meat swimming in an uninteresting pool of sweet potato purée. I complained about the lamb rack and was given a free cheese course but really, any chef should have been ashamed of serving it. I really hope the kitchen was having an “off night” or the normal chef was absent. In summary I shall certainly return to the Excelsior but I shall in future go out for dinner to one of the excellent local restaurants at Les Praz rather than risking dining in the hotel.

    Pleasant

We stayed at this hotel, but unfortunately, the reality did not match the advertised description. The photos showed beautiful views from the balcony, but our room had only a standard window. At check-in, my husband requested a room with a balcony or at least a nice view since it was my birthday. The receptionist initially said she would try to find something, but then stated that such a room was only available for an extra charge. We declined, but it left an unpleasant impression. The next day, on my birthday, we went for breakfast, only to be unexpectedly stopped and asked to pay. It turned out that breakfast and the sauna were not included, despite the website stating otherwise. This misinformation greatly affected our experience.Additionally, the staff was aware of my birthday, yet there was not even a small complimentary gesture. Such details contribute to the overall impression of a hotel's hospitality. In the end, we were disappointed with the service level and the misleading information on the website.
