Hotel Salamander - Garni

I stayed here for one night and was very pleasantly surprised, especially considering the excellent price per room including breakfast.The hotel is located in a beautiful historical building, just a few minutes walk from the old town centre, which makes the location perfect for exploring Banská Štiavnica. Each room was a good size for a single person and well equipped, with a working desk, TV, and a small fridge. Everything was clean and well maintained.The breakfast exceeded my expectations for such a small hotel. Simple but very good and satisfying. I also appreciated the bathroom: great lighting, a small extra mirror suitable for makeup, and fresh, good-quality towels.The hotel manager was extremely helpful and accommodating, fulfilling my last minute requests. The level of service was truly excellent and made the stay even more enjoyable.

It would be helpful to install soap and shampoo holders in the shower. The bed was not long enough for me who is 196 cm tall.

Amazing location, right in downtown, super cozy and clean room, lovely and helpful staff!They even allowed me to store my bike inside the building.I can highly recommend this hotel!

Hotel definitely needs refurbishment. Facility worn, seems they don't invest even penny to update. Prepaid Parking slot 500m from hotel.

Own car park was a blessing. Otherwise very difficult to park in the city.

Should wait with preparing the omelette until guest shows up in the breakfast room. Got cold by the time we arrived for breakfast.

Everything was fine. The room is inexpensive, clean, cozy. snow-white bed linen. breakfast is delicious, several dishes to choose from

I had to arrange check in myself, as I only got instructions.....which was almost ok, but could have been much better to communicate with real person. parking near hotel: mission impossible! some place to eat nearby breakfast was quite okey

communication with reception lady- we just did not "click"! parking options were not clear, so I parked ca 800 m away. not great! no AC in the room and it was 30 degrees outside! opening the window did not help at all as there was noise outside anyway

Good location, everything was clean, breakfast included. In bathroom you find towels and shower gels too, so nice If you did not have it.

Need little bit reconstruct floors, windows and others things, but it is not problem only detail.

I especially liked the traditional aesthetics of the premises and the façade of the hotel, which made me enjoy the authenticity of Banska Stiavnica very much. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. A special help for me and my friend was that the room was split into two separate room with a bathroom in the middle, so we both had quiet sleep. Given the very reasonable price, I was 100 % satisfied and can't wait to accomodate in the same room again.

FYI:1. there is no elevator, and climbing some stairs is inevitable. 2. the receptionist is not always at the reception and hotel may be closed at these times, but I guess it would not take more than 2-3 minutes after the telephone call to come down and open the door for you. 3. luggage storage before check-in / after check-out is not provided in a standard way. They may allow you to store your luggage in the room next to the reception, but I guess you better deal with them prior to your stay so that they are prepared in advance for such a request if needed. FYI in my case, they allowed me to keep my backpack after check-out only until 2pm, and only in a room next to the reception which could be entered freely from the street via reception and was therefore not 100 % safe when the receptionist was not at the reception but the main entrance from the street to the reception was open despite that. It worked OK for me, even the need to return from the Klinger prematurely helped me to experience something particular downtown for which I was happy, so all was perfect in my case, but I guess this limitation should be shared here as luggage storage after check-out should be a standard free service in *** hotels I guess (i.e. in contrast to * hotels).4. Wi-Fi worked OK, but it had some issues on the 3rd floow from time to time when it was not working for several minutes, so should you need to stream a video or have an online meeting or a video call you might better double-check with them in advance whether your room is near the reliable router

Good hotel, in the very center of the town, the room was clean and spacious, actually I was alone but the room was split in two, for 3 people. Large bathroom too, a small fridge. Just perfect for me

Central location. Our room was comfortable, with good bedding and clean bathroom, and quiet as it faced the courtyard beside the building. The breakfast was tasty. Parking is very limited, but the very nice and helpful man at the front desk found a solution for us a bit farther from the hotel. However, I would not worry about parking, there are several lots with daily rates of 8€ around the town. Overall, the hotel is very good value for money and a good option!

Our room faced onto a balcony where smoking was allowed, so we got occasional cigarette odors in the room. I recommend that guests only be allowed to smoke outside the front or side doors of the building.

The location is great, right in the historical centre of the town, The beds were comfortable, everything was clean, the receptionist was really nice and helpful. Great value for money.

I applied filter for accomodations with parking, so I automatically thought that I have parking guaranteed at the hotel property. Only reading the reviews couple of days before our arrival I found out, that you have to reserve the parking separately after completing the booking. When I called the hotel I was informed that there are no more spots availble. The receptionist was kind though and explained to us where we can park for free in walking distance from the hotel. It was not a big problem but I would appreciate to make it more clear on the booking page that there is limited capacity at the hotel car park. Also the room was quite hot, with the window opened we were woken up but noisy drunkheads passing by, so the airconditioning would move it to higher standard.

Location is ok.

The room facilities are not as described. Mini-bar is an empty fridge on the floor, it made so much noise I had to unplug it to be able to sleep. Tea, coffee and cups provided in the room, but no way to boil the water, no kettle, nothing.Beds are short, I had to sleep diagonally, luckily I had the room to myself. Shower ok but water temperature hit and miss.Room decor/furniture is worn, not as nice as shown in the pictures.All of the above was exactly the same for my colleague who had the room next door.Breakfast just about ok for the 7 Euros, certainly not exceptional.I got a different room to what was allocated on the online check-in. One floor higher, and no lift in the hotel.This hotels policy is payment in advance and no refunds. Never again for me considering the above.I did not receive a receipt on checkout, I have written to them twice to send me VAT receipt, they do not answer.

Nice location, very clean apartment, good breakfast

- they sent the email with the link for on-line registration, but the link was not working. When I texted them, they said that there was no my reservation despite it was prepayed. Eventually, they found it.- reception was working till 6 only- my room was cold when I arrived as a heating item was disabled. I switched on that but it was cold in the room anyway- the room wasn't like on the photo. Well it was..but kind of not really. There were very old furniture, the bad was terrible with the terrible mattress- no sound isolation at all. I heard neighbors- there were kettle in the room but no cups, only glasses- room is smaller than on photos Summary: I didn't stay for second night and change the hotel to the one with better price and muuuuuch more better rooms

The hotel is tastefully decorated, fitting the historical nature of its neighbourhood. The room was also very clean and tidy. I would like to emphasize Timea's remarkable helpfulness and flexibility; she is truly an invaluable asset to the establishment.

Staff were friendly and very helpful, room was clean, breakfast was good. Good value for money.

No lift (and my room was at the very top plus I had heavy suitcase); nobody on reception the few times I tried to access it (I think the reception staff do all other duties and so are pulled this way and that) - this was particularly difficult on arrival (hotel advertising reception being staffed throughout the day). Hotel is also at foot of steep hill so walk to central parts of Banska Stiavnica is very much uphill - it doesn't take long (it's just exhausting!)

The hotel is in a good location. Centre of the town. The room is big. Not my kind of aesthetics, but I believe someone could like it.

In the room I stayed was a super slow internet connection. No air conditioning and a very small window so it was too hot there.
