    Pros +

    • Although a bit outdated, the hotel is a landmark placed at a perfect spot. The iconic Lungo Mare walkway is passing right in front, the center of Opatija is very near, and the seaside resort with best restaurants is very near.
    • Lovely view, spacious room, breakfast - wide range, delicious
    • Its on the beach and the view is amazing

    Cons -

    • Dinner cost/value
    • Hard to find free find sunbeds
    • The rooms were not properly clean. Some of the outlets were not functioning. Their AC system doesn’t work on the top floors of the villa or the top floor of the main building. The hotel will fall in disrepair if they don’t maintain it. At this moment it looks like a 4 star hotel

The hotel boasts an excellent location in the center of Opatija, with a particularly noteworthy private seaside pier, offering the perfect opportunity for a refreshing early morning swim. The high-quality breakfast features many local products, and there is a dedicated section thoughtfully reserved for guests arriving with dogs.

We had an upper floor room with a deck. Great view. The Wellness Spa met all the needs. Unfortunately it rained during our stay but we were able to spend time in the spa and indoor pool (salt water) . Huge buffet breakfast with made to order eggs etc. was a perfect way to start the morning. All the staff were amazing from reception to concierge through to wellness centre and housekeeping. Everyone had a smile on their face and made us feel very welcome. Gorgeous facility with lots of little sitting areas.

We were sorry we had to leave.

I gave it a 9 because i don't want to be the one who messes up their score. Maybe it was a few bad decisions from the Receptionist's part, regarding our room (see bellow). If we had received the right room from the start, we would have been much more satisfied with our experience. But based on my experience, i would have given a 7.We booked the most expensive suite on Booking (Ambasador Suite), for 6 days. The room looks nice and the sea view is perfect. We expected top notch service and immaculate rooms, which was not actually the case, but i will explain this on the CON side of my review. The location is very good, on the seaside. The hotel has one pool outside (not heated), one salt-water pool inside (heated 28 degrees Celsius) and one small pool/jacuzzi inside, heated. Also there is a Spa area with saunas. The food is really good, the Hotel and the rooms are nice. There is parking at the hotel, for extra charge (22 euro/night outside and 25 euro/night inside).Clean towels, clean bath robes. Some of the staff are really nice, but many of them never smile, they are very rigid and serious. Especially the Spa staff are nice. Regarding the Spa, BEWARE: only NAKED people can use the sauna, so if you don't want to see naked people and to be seen naked, then you can't use the sauna. They have more saunas, but all of them can ONLY be used naked. ALSO, in the jacuzzi, people go naked! I find this completely crazy, but maybe that's just me. So they don't care about guests who want to use the Spa without being naked, only naked people are important for them.I've been to OTHER hotels with saunas and they have a special sauna for naked people (isolated from the rest of the Spa), and the usual sauna can be used in a bathing suit. But not here.

The room was NOT cleaned properly, with dusty furniture, pistachio on the carpet, plastic junk on the floor (looked like tampons packaging), with a worn, stained and hairy sofa. The hotel accepts pets, so maybe the sofas are worn out because of that. We covered the sofa with a blanket, it looked so gross. Then we realized the air conditioning was NOT working, it was really hot, we were sweating. We called reception, they said the air conditioning is TURNED OFF in the hotel, because in April it is not hot enough to turn it on and they can't help us with that!!! We wouldn't have booked this hotel with a pregnant wife if we knew. Booking said they have air con. Also, there was loud music from a neighbor terrace, under our balcony (they had an Easter party). We asked for a new room, on the quiet side of the hotel. Reception said they will call us back in a few minutes, and move us to 8th floor, on the other side of the building. We waited in the room with our luggage packed, for their call. Half an hour later, we called again. They said: "go to the Spa and when you get back, the new room will be ready".Long story short: they kept postponing and didn't change the room, promising that in the MORNING, "the boss" will change the room and "take care of the price".We woke up with loud jackhammer noise and excavators under our balcony. The hotel employees were changing tiles outside. We kept visiting reception 3 or 4 times to change the room ("the boss" never talked to us, he was "busy"). After more postponing, they offered us a new room in the AFTERNOON of the SECOND day, which was MUCH WORSE than the first one, extremely dirty on the carpet (not vacuumed) and much hotter (the door from the dormitory balcony couldn't open) . We said we move to Hilton Hotel and they immediately offered us another room, MUCH CLEANNER, on the quiet side of the hotel, at the 8th floor!!!

Great location, nice room, excellent food, beautiful wellness with indoor & outdoor pool. Great service overall on a reasonable price.

    7Mytime01Posted on: 4-27-2025

Beautifully decorated reception. Big garden with outside pool. Great views. Various food selections for breakfast and dinner, friendly waiters. Illy coffee machine with capsules in the room.

Bad smell from the bathroom. Workers in the spa (sauna) repairing the showers (vaping and talking on the phone while you are enjoying the spa place with all their stuff everywhere). The electricity was out off order for about 3 hours (you had to use the key to enter, no electricity in the room, the sauna was not working until evening). The receptionist were not very nice (with the exception of a young man). The sockets by the bedside table didn't work.

Small things, but very logical adding together a bright picture:- food variety is great and it was always refilled- staff was extremly open and kind- spa/pool services all around- cleanliness in the hotel areas- big spaces in the restaurant, lobby- soundproofing was OK- location is the best in Opatija+1: in the past 6 consequitive hotel nights I couldn't barely sleep and here finally I could. Maybe the sound of the sea :)

    - you will always get smoke in your balcony, even in offseason- difficult parking in the garage, max height 1.8 meter (no SUVs allowed) - but you will be informed in advance of your options- rooms are a bit worn out (broken soap tray, some painting issues)- cleaniness in the room was a bit questionable (dirty coffee mug, dusty bedside table)

Hotel Ambasador - Liburnia boasts an absolutely breathtaking location along the picturesque Adriatic coastline, offering stunning views that capture the natural beauty of the region. Despite visiting during off-season with stormy weather, I was delighted to find the pool remained accessible regardless of the rain, allowing for relaxing swims even when the weather wasn't cooperating. An unexpected highlight was the buffet dinner, which turned out to be a generous all-you-can-eat affair with plentiful options to satisfy various tastes and appetites.

No significant drawbacks were experienced during my stay at this seaside property.

Breakfast was amazing with a lot of fresh prepared choices and local ingredients. The staff was nice and friendly on all levels, including cleaning ladies. I was amazed how clean the bathroom was. The hotel is well located in the centre of Opatija, therefore there are a lot of options for walking to different directions. I will totally go back again.

The price for the hotel is not friendly, especially because the parking is not included in the price. Also publicly available parking spaces cost around 25 EUR per day, so it is not a big difference where you park.

    The view

we did not like the sauna because it is aimed exclusively at older people, and there is no control to ensure that the guests of the elderly population do not go without towels, but consider it under normal circumstances. if such a sauna concept has already been established, a sauna and a Turkish bath should be provided with control or better supervision so that no one gets into unpleasant situations

    9JelenaPosted on: 4-4-2025

The room is very cozy, with a wonderful view of Opatija and the sea. The cleaning staff comes by daily and is available if you need anything. Breakfast is excellent, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

We visited during the off-season, so there weren’t many guests overall. However, we were still placed between occupied rooms on both sides, which could have been avoided given the low occupancy. There is a gym, but it’s quite small.
