    Pros +

    • Staff was friendly and helpful! Great on piste location.
    • We could not reach the property because lights were not operating. They have is one window at 4.00 pm that we could not make. They will not refund even of lack of ability to join the facility is completely out of the customers control. I do not recommend booking here. No flexibility of any kind
    • Wonderful staff and gorgeous location—truly stunning views. The 3 course dinners were quite delicious with a very intimate, cozy feel.

    Cons -

    • Food was mid. Breakfast was lacking and sparse, if you did not get up at 7:30am. Dinner was a bowl of mushy macaroni and cheese, titled main. Served with cake… that was frozen. Most likely because it was not fresh and not thawed fully. Food 1 star. At $500 a night I would expect better.
    • The Rösti at dinner was unfortunately not the best. But the view made it up;)
    • Prior to our arrival hotel asked for our dietary restrictions and we conveyed them and they emailed back that "they would take care of everything". However, at dinner, only pork was offered and I am a vegetarian and told the waitstaff this. She asked if I told the kitchen that day that I was vegetarian, because they only prepared one vegetarian meal. I was upset because reception did not tell me that I had to confirm with the kitchen ahead of time that needed a vegetarian meal. Fortunately we were the first to arrive to dinner, so the kitchen was able to prepare a vegetarian alternative (roti with egg).Rooms are very clean and look much better than the photos, but I did notice dog hairs that made their way from deep under the bed. I like dogs, but am allergic to pet dander, so perhaps the hotel can designate rooms that are no pets for guests like me.Food was good, but only 1 waiter serving upwards of 30 people, so arrive early or your wait time will be very long for dinner. Continental breakfast was great first morning with several freshly baked loaves of bread and nice hot croissants, but second morning it seemed like leftover stale bread, quickly ran out of croissants, yogurt, etc. These small inconviences kept it from a perfect 10 rating. I would still, however, recommend you do not miss out on this amazing location.

Absolutely loved staying here and will be back again. Hotel Schwarzsee is the right place if you like to be close to the Matterhorn and nature. Nice place for lunch, hiking up to Hörnli Hütte and surroundings. Rooms with shared bathrooms were clean and perfect for one or two nights. The dinner and breakfast was included. Super nice staff. Damian especially was such a kind and happy person to meet. Being up early for sunrise he even turned on the coffee machine before the official breakfast start. Highly appreciated his cheerful, friendly and happy personality. The best place to stay after the gondolas stop running as it gets super quiet and the mountain view is breathtaking. Can’t wait to return!

The Rösti at dinner was unfortunately not the best. But the view made it up;)

What an amazing location away from the crowds down in Zermatt. Only reached by taking the gondola up (verify last ascent/descent or you can hike up/down) to 8,500' from Zermatt. We could see the Matterhorn from our bed! Would wake up early to catch the Alpenglow on the tips of the mountain, stunning!Double room with private bath is basic, but comfy and nicer than the pictures, balcony is shared with no seating, and gives you a front row seat to a glorious Matterhorn view (when it's not cloudy) when no one else is up on the mountain (the crowds are gone when the gondola stops running).Another important advantage is being the first on the trails to beat the crowds, as well as being able to acclimate a little to the high altitude before doing the challenging, but absolutely fantastic hike to the Hornli hut and back, as well as the Glacier Trail.Wait staff in restaurant were great, so friendly and hardworking, always cheerful even though they work a very long day keeping us fed and happy.

There is no question: the unique selling point is this hotel's unbeatable location perched high on a mountain overlooking both Zermatt and - far more importantly - the Matterhorn. The view from the hotel and its terrace is utterly breathtaking, with a perfect, unimpeded view of this most iconic of Alpine peaks.Hotel Schwartzsee is situated 100m from the Schwartzsee cable car station, which is the only practical way of accessing the hotel. If you're a skier (not that we are), this means that you can be on the slopes long before the cable car starts bringing skiers up from Zermatt, and the slopes were still open when we visited the second week in April 2025. In summer, it would be an ideal base for hiking, although there was too much snow for this when we were there.Because of the hotel's remote location, accommodation is on a half board basis, with breakfast and a three course dinner included in the room rate. The food was hearty with a choice between a meat-based and a vegetarian option for main course. The first night the main course choice was between roast chicken and mashed potatoes or a tomato gnocchi, whilst the second evening, fondue (accompanied by bread, rosti and pickled gherkins and onions) was served for all. A Muslim family at the next table asked if their fondue could be made without using alcohol (given that fondue includes white wine) and the chef was happy to oblige. If you are the hungry type, the restaurant offers a more extensive lunch menu that caters for the skiers/day tourists. If you're trying to optimise your budget, the hotel offers some rooms with shared bathroom facilities - ours was a four bed room, with bunk beds and a sink in the room.An absolute highlight was seeing chamois grazing around the hotel.Wi-fi coverage was good enough to be able to conduct business meetings.

If you are looking to stay here, you need to factor in the cost of the cable car from Zermatt, which costs CHF 31 each way. This is an absolutely legitimate cost given that you're using the infrastructure. What irked us is that because we were staying overnight, we couldn't buy a return ticket (as this is apparently only valid for a day). The 4 bed room was fine space wise and the shared bathroom facilities weren't a problem. However, the bunk beds were not particularly comfortable and we didn't sleep well, although that might be partly attributable to the fact that it's at 2600m altitude.

The Matterhorn is literally in front of you.

The room is warm and clean overall, which is appreciated. However, the duvet cover is quite worn out and has visible holes, which detracts from the comfort. Additionally, the bathtub was not properly cleaned — there was noticeable grime that could still be rubbed off the surface.

We missed our last cable car so we can not check in on the day,We asked staff member to postpone they are so kind to agree. We successfully check in in the second day,And they even gave us the room earlier than usual. The environment the view and the staff member are all good. We had a great stay. Extraordinary experience with This hotel.

The location is just outstanding, the crew very friendly and the experience as a whole just amazing.

The room where you can store your skis is pretty wet and does not have enough fresh air.

Old property, bed sheet not clean

Our rooms were perfect. We had two rooms on each side to enjoy both sides of the hotel. Meals were tasty and staff helpful. You will not believe how beautiful it is up there.

Floors in our room had water damage. Lifts stop running so soon and day ends quickly in winter.

Location is great, food was good!

There was mold in the bathroom and ventilation was inexistent. The bed are not comfortable and they move during the nights. The pillow was also questionable

    The location and beautiful view

The receptionist who is not helpful and not giving information to the guest.

    7KrzysztofaPosted on: 2-24-2025

We had a great stay overall! The staff was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and always ready to help. The dinner was delicious. The location was simply amazing, with the Matterhorn practically within reach, offering breathtaking views.

However, there is room for improvement. The cleanliness could be better, and the bed linens should be of higher quality—without any holes. It would also be great if the management invested in some updates to the rooms. With these improvements, this place could be truly exceptional!

Location cannot be beat. Had en suite room and was surprised by how nice it was. Even had cleaning service each day which didn’t expect on the mountain.

Breakfast was acceptable but nothing to brag about. Warm eggs and warm something else would make a big difference. Cold hard boiled eggs aren’t exactly heart warming

    9ReubenPosted on: 2-20-2025

Hotel Schwarzsee is special spot. They have improved their staffing now and it is far more friendly experience. Young dynamic crew that works hard to provide the best service. Front desk person is very nice and charming--important as it sets the tone for the stay. They are much more oriented towards understanding what hospitality and customer service means. It is a constant struggle and not easy as some guests may be difficult and they are now winning. Overall a pinnacle experience, pun intended and I will definitely be back.

Food was good but could perhaps be improved--hard to deliver dinner for 30 people in short time frame. Breakfast was typical hearty Swiss Hotel fare--hot options would be nice but perhaps impractial.

filthy and disgustingly smelly to which the staff completely oblivious.

We spent four fantastic days at the Schwarzsee Hotel. We will remember this trip for a long time. We fell in love with this place and will definitely come back if we have the opportunity. The hotel is located in a wonderful place in the middle of the ski slopes. Access only by gondola until about 16.30 in winter. For lovers of quiet places outside the city, it is perfectly located at the foot of the Matterhorn and among other four-thousanders around. Very nice, homely service. The hotel standard is modest but clean and pleasant. A bit cold in the dining room, you have to wear a warm sweater, but the rooms are very warm. The prices are acceptable for Switzerland. We highly recommend it.

The location and the view from the room are amazing.

Dirty room and bathroom. The furniture has to be renovated. Also there were the holes in bed linen. So it feels like hostel not hotel.

    7StevePosted on: 1-28-2025

Unfortunately the rooms/beds were doubled booked and we were offered bed and breakfast in Zermatt which we had to ski down to.
