    • Everything was great and it's a perfect set-up for a family of young kids. There's not too much nearby so the area is kind of quiet (which we didn't mind) but on site, they had everything you need. The pools, entertainment, facilities and food were all great. Despite meal times being busy, the staff were brilliant and keeping everything running smoothly and the food was very nice for 'buffet style' !

    Cons -

    • Unfortunately we had a bad experience with the kids club on the second day which meant the kids didn't want to go back for the duration of our stay. Our youngest didn't enjoy it at all (which we didn't realise) and although I signed up online with my personal details, including my phone number, we didn't receive a call to let us know that he wasn't settling so he spent the nearly two hours in there upset. Naturally, we were pretty annoyed but we spoke to the team and the reception about the situation and they were very apologetic about the mix up and sent an apology note and cava/chocolates to our room, which we very much appreciated and showed us that they understood and were apologetic about the situation.
    • Lack of washing products ,not replenished even though we was there 4 days .No variety in tea station,ie no green or fruit teas

Absolutely everything. Location was perfect, hotel was stunning. It was so beautiful and absolutely spotless. We stayed in two different rooms as we extended our stay and each room was beautify. All staff was so kind, friendly, incredibly helpful and professional. Everyone we met was lovely and went above and beyond. The entertainment team were brilliant and kept the whole family entertained. The pools were lovely and no fighting for subbed. Pool towels changed daily. Food was incredible and so much variety.

    - pretty clean, rather spatious room- large bathroom with separate bathtub and shower- decent food selection at the buffet

    - most 5 star hotels offer free shuttle to/from airport. not this one. it cost 55 euros one way!!- they don't respond to questions asked on booking.com message system- the hotel complex is a labyrinth. it took us over three days to figure out how to get from one place to another without a map.- if it's raining, you have no way of getting to the room through covered areas. our clothes and bags got soaked and we had nowhere to dry them.- the staff didn't give us a proper introduction of the hotel, facilities, and what was included in our half board, so we had to figure a lot of things on our own.- the room has very few plugs and all of them are used by other things that are necessary. So if you need to charge a device, or even use the kettle they provide, you need to unplug something first, such as the lamps, fridge, or tv.- the beds were extremely squeaky. if you turned from one side to another, the noise would wake you up. pillows uncomfortable.- the soap and shampoo/body wash dispensers are fixed to the wall and only available for the sink and shower. There is no soap available for the bathtub or the bidet.- only one swimming pool is heated: the children's one. All the others are pretty cold, especially in february.- the towels were overused.

Very family orientated six year old son loved the water pool and the merlin kids bed room. Staff very friendly.

The food at pool side bars was limited more takeaway options would be good. Our favourite restaurant on site was the positano. That will be missed while its been renovated from March

The waiting staff was super nice, the staff at reception just always appeared a little grumpy. The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff always spared you a friendly hello and a genuine smile. The gym was decently stacked and maintained.

The food was worse than my own cooking, particularly the meats were super dry and chewy. It was difficult to tell at times what you're eating since the labels weren't in place (if you have allergies this might be worth keeping in mind). The location is not the best if you want to explore, whilst the resort itself is well maintained and there is a "shopping center" next door, you are very far off from everything else i.e the town center is difficult to get to on foot etc if you wanted to go eat elsewhere and the Taxi service is not reliable (not the hotels fault as it's external, but worth mentioning). When travelling to the airport, try and book a private hire/shuttle ahead of time. The beds are alright, the pillows are very uncomfortable and you only get one choice of them (most 3/ 4 star hotels do offer a choice between a harder and softer pillow - it's surprising a 5 star won't have that).

Super friendly and pretty staff. Really great with and for kids. We stayed in the Merlin rooms and we were pleasantly surprised by them. Animation team really seems to love their job, interacting with kids. And the staff seems to have fun together on the job.Stunning views from the main pool (Fuerteventura on the other end of the sea) and central location in lively Playa Blanca. Garden(s) well maintained. We stayed mid February and felt really lucky with the weather. Some pools were heated (main- and kids pool), preferably even a bit warmer to my liking. Lots of choice with food options. Some are a bit plain, but easy to adjust to your personal likings with all kinds of additional items (like oils, oats, fruits, salsa's). Would stay there again. Traveling with kids, it's a definite recommendation

There is room for improvement with the style of the hotel. The room seemed outdated. Super clean though

Pros:Picturesque location: A pleasant walk across the pier adds a lovely touch to the stay.Spacious rooms: The accommodations are comfortable and generously sized.Lively entertainment team: The team is friendly and full of energy, creating a vibrant atmosphere.Smooth check-in: The process was quick and stress-free.Delightful breakfast: Breakfast was a highlight, especially when Sheik was handling the egg and pancake station.Italian restaurant: The Italian dining experience was excellent, with quality food and service.Engaged management: The deputy directors proactive effort to gather guest feedback was appreciated.

The Gran Castillo Hotel offers some standout features but is let down by several shortcomings, making it fall short of the 5-star experience it promises.Cons:Disappointing dinner service: The dinner was repetitive, bland, and prioritised quantity over quality. Despite being offered a complimentary dinner at the Italian restaurant after raising concerns, the inconsistency in food and service between restaurants was disheartening.Poor guest etiquette: Some guests let the experience down by being discourteous to others or using their hands instead of utensils to pick food. It may be worth having staff posted around dining areas to monitor and prevent such behaviour.Staff apathy: Many staff members seemed disengaged, rarely smiling or appearing happy to be there, which impacted the overall atmosphere.Limited ironing facilities: Only one iron is provided, requiring a walk to access. This creates unnecessary inconvenience, especially when there are queues.Unfit for younger toddlers: Kids’ entertainment is geared towards children aged 3+, which can be overwhelming for younger toddlers.Extensive walking: The hotel's layout involves a fair amount of walking to reach key areas, which may not suit everyone.Inconsistent kitchen performance: The quality of food preparation varied, with some chefs overcooking or undercooking dishes and delays in service.Overrated rating: The experience is closer to that of a 3+ star hotel than a true 5-star one. While the Gran Castillo Hotel excels in certain areas like breakfast, room size, and entertainment, the lacklustre dinner service, staff attitude, and guest behaviour bring the overall experience down. Improvements in staff engagement, dining quality, and stricter dining etiquette enforcement could significantly enhance the stay.

Great facilities for kids. Main reason we booked it was the baby club aged 0-4 years which meant our daughters could go together. Baby club included in your booking whereas a lot of other places it is not. Merlin room was fab too. Plenty space and a big bathroom.
