The Square Hotel

Great location in short walk to the central attractions, easy checkin and checkout, friendly host, good breakfast.

Location is fantastic. We parked in the nearby underground garage. Breakfast was wonderful.

There is no elevator. This needs to be noted on their posting for this place. We were on the 4th floor. 4 flights of steep narrow steps. Mattress needs to be updated. It's very stiff and the pillows need replacing too

Its location in the center of Cluj, and its being just a short walk to the university, where I was attending a conference. The ample breakfast, served by Crina, was likewise a pleasant feature.

Discovering, when I arrived, that it was a self-entering hotel with no personnel to welcome one, and, since I did not have our iphone with me, I had not received the code needed for entering -- a predicament that was resolved thanks to the help that I was given by a reresentative of the business directly across the street. I was also surprised to discover that, given the lack of an elevator, the staircases were not equipped with handrails, which made negotiating them inconveneint, to say the least. I do recognize, at the same timne, that the problems that I encountered may not be of concern to guests who are younger than I and who never travel unaccompanied by their iphone.

Central location, smart access in the hotel, very clean, very, very comfortable bed, everything done with very good taste, good breakfast, friendly host, quiet street so we had a good night sleep.

Exceptional central location, very friendly and helpful staff, highly recommend this boutique hotel.

It is very close to the city center, sparkling clean, the owner makes a very good coffee for the guests in the morning. The hospitality for the guests is top notch and he was very helpful. Smart hotel concept is nice and it facilitates check-in procedure a lot. Room was small but we didn’t mind due to instant heating since the weather was cold. The breakfast offers a wide choice considering the availability in Romania. Plus there are different variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and shopping mall in the close vicinity.

I haven’t checked the option for the lift. There is no lift and stairs are steep. I had stayed for 1 week with my wife so I had one big luggage around 30 kgs, it could be difficult for another person. The hotel is close to lots of cafes and bars and there is a pedestrian zone in front so during night it could be a little noisy.

There are no elevators or hand rails which is a challenge if you have balance issues.

There are only stairs with no hand rails to get to the rooms. For someone with balance issues, this is a bit of challenge. However I knew this ahead of time and made it work.

Location was number one. Cleanliness of room and it was spacious. A small supermarket on the corner two doors down was excellent.

There wasn’t a lift and the stairs to the room maybe a problem for people with mobility issues.

Very clever hotel concept and excellent location (right in the centre of the Old Town). Everything exceeded our expectations – the room was very clean and modern and anything you would normally need in the room was there (bathrobes, Rituals bathroom products, coffee, water and air con, etc). The self check-in made it a seamless experience for the period of stay. The owner was also very kind and helpful – he allowed us to store the luggage both before check-in and after check-out. The breakfast was good and had a variety of choices. We will definitely return to this hotel the next time we are in Cluj!

Location - couldn't be better. Breakfast - nice and generous, good coffee. The hotel is perfectly clean and comfortable, decorated in a tasteful manner. Ciprian, the host, is more than friendly, helpful and kind. He makes your stay feel like home. Definitely would come back.

It is a smart hotel so there is no reception. The app didn’t work but there is a contact number and they were very helpful and responded immediately. The bedroom was clean and the hotel is in the centre of the old town which is ideal. However I wouldn’t say it’s a 4 star hotel.

Situated in centre of city and can walk everywhere. Secure and safe. Clean with good facilities. The breakfast was a great way to start the day. Tea, coffee, and juice as well as cereal and croissants . Eggs cooked to order and platter of cheese and meats

Very clean, great location. The owner was great and check in was super easy via code. Breakfast was very nice, including freshly cooked eggs. The AC actually works too!

Only small downside is that the wifi wasn't great in my room on the first floor which was not ideal as I was travelling for work. It did work though.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The owner and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The place was clean and comfortable, making my stay very pleasant. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Additionally, the location was excellent.

New hotel

They take the payment from your account days in advance, even though free cancellation is still available. When you make the booking for someone else, this is very inconvenient, as you need to have the awkward conversation of how they should reimburse you, instead of the guest paying directly at the hotel and be able to get a businesses invoice, etc..When I called the hotel to remediate this, they were very rude and dismissive telling me to call Booking (how?!) and refusing to even give me a number they use when they 'call Booking'. Although they send messages later on in my booking account, giving me a number (mind you, when the free cancellation was no longer available), there was no apology or a hint of them trying to actually help. Booking takes a quite long time to return your money if they took it and I had already communicated to the guest the hotel I booked for them so I decided better to have the awkward conversation. Also, if you have an early flight, you just lose the breakfast you paid for as they don't give you a snack/fruit/bottle of water even for you to take away. All the digital gizmos they have for the check-in process just makes you feel less welcome and you have no receptionist to turn to in case you need help.
