About

Set in a green valley in the Maremma area of Tuscany, Hotel Scilla is part of an ancient hamlet inside Sovana's historic center. It features extensive gardens and a restaurant. Set in two nearby buildings, rooms are bright and elegantly decorated with tiled or terracotta floors. All air conditioned, they also feature a TV. Scilla dei Merli restaurant is part of the Slow Food movement and operates a zero mile policy, using only ingredients produced in the immediate surroundings. Parking is free at the Scilla Hotel and the thermal spas at Terme di Saturnia are 16 mi away. Pitigliano and Sorano are both within a 15-minute drive of the property. Lake Bolsena is 19 mi away and trekking and mountain bike guides are available.

    • A basic but pleasant hotel in a great little town. Nothing fancy but a comfortable night's sleep. Plenty of eating places near by.

    • Well located in a quiet, charming town , yet close to larger towns.

    Cons -

    • Plenty of places for an evening meal but in Sept we failed to get a pre dinner drink. Having said that a pleasant change from the usual 'glitzy' tourist towns.
    • it was a one night staythe fridge didn't work and we can't control the AC tempthe room is not the same the facility is not the same as in the pictures the breakfast restaurant is not the same as pictures no garden is available
    • Air conditioner noisy and struggled to keep up with the admittedly unusually high heat. Shower small and in need of an update

Great location in the heart of the tiny gem of Sovana. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Attentiveness of owners and staff with check in and recommendations of things to do. Dinner was delicious., ambiance of the small town. was delightful.

The bed was hard and difficult to find a comfortably position to sleep on.

We stayed here before, 18 years ago, and were pleased to return. The village is small and special, not much changed, though spruced-up, and a bit less car-accessible. Perhaps the smallest town to have a cathedral in Italy! A great headquarters for visits to the larger near-by tufa towns of Sorano, Pitigliano, and Saturnia. It also has its own set of Etruscan remains -- temples, vie cave, and tombs, lovely to visit in the spring -- with meadows of wildflowers and birdsong. The hotel is still looking freshly-made in its antique building. The room was light and comfortable, with traditional furnishings and modern bathroom.

The hosts seemed distracted by the needs of their across-the-street restaurant. (We had a pleasant dinner there.) But they were available when needed. They no longer furnish breakfast, and oddly neglected to recommend breakfast at their fancier sister-hotel down the street, where they were happy to provide a tasty generous buffet, with garden view, for only 7 Euro @.

    Ambiance. Quiet. Authentic

The road to the hotel is very narrow and slipery. Driving a motorbike to the hotel requires skills

Well presented and clean room in an idyllic village setting.Steps from several places to eat and drink.Excellent view from the room.Very quiet and peaceful location.

Not much interaction from staff, would have been helpful to have a telephone in the room to contact the staffed hotel further into the village.

I was free upgraded in Hotel Sovana, which is from the same owner, while the first reservation in Hotel Scila was full.Absolutely fabulous place in historical town, with colorful garden, surrounded with olive trees and wineyards. Breakfast delicious and very reach.Stuff very kind.It is a super point on the top of hills, u can reach nearby must seen Pitigliano, Sorano and enjoy Saturnia termal cascade.

We booked this hotel but were upgraded to another hotel, which was pretty nice! The hotel was quaint and in a quiet little town. The rooms were decent, with a comfy bed :)

It said free parking but the street was blocked off and we struggled to find somewhere to park. We called the hotel but did not receive a reply, so we parked in outside on the street and in the morning our car was completely iced up! There was also no kettle and mugs in the room :(.

We were very kindly upgraded to Hotel Sovana. Delightful quiet clean town & hotel.

    Nothing!

Not the hotel it used to be....

Not the hotel it used to be - just rooms with no staff, services or food. Comfortable enough for a night but disappointing for me given my previous stay here where it was a very good experience. Perhaps they are still recovering after Covid times.

Small hotel resort in a magic little town Sovana. I loved their cosmetics with unique smell (you can buy it at the reception desk) and the swimming pool and olive grove!

    Everything was perfect!

We booked a room at Hotel Scilla but were relocated to the the Sovana Hotel & Resort (same owners) at no extra cost. The hotel staff were very communicative and answered questions via booking.com quickly. I cannot comment on the Hotel Scilla but the Sovana Hotel & Resort is very lovely with a wonderful garden & hedge maze that guests can explore.

We were upgraded to the Sovana Resort at the same price. Great hotel with very quiet and spacious rooms, great breakfast and extremely friendly staff.
