About
Located in Gaiole in Chianti, the ‘most beautiful place to live’ according to Forbes magazine, Ultimo Mulino lives up to this reputation. Set in an old mill, restored using original stonework, it provides scenic views over the Tuscan hills. Offering a casual yet elegant atmosphere, guests will enjoy the hotel’s panoramic pool or the outdoor patios. In winter you can drink local wines in the hotel’s lobby, fitted with exposed wooden beams and terracotta floors. Rooms at Ultimo Mulino combine the rustic feel with modern amenities. Those include a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, air conditioning and an private bathroom with spa bath. Specialties from Tuscany’s culinary tradition are offered at the hotel’s restaurant, still prepared following old-time recipes. The friendly staff can suggest wine routes and walking itineraries within the Chianti Area. We have just opened a new area 2625 feet from Reception called 'Borgo Le Noci'! New rooms, equipped with the most modern comforts. Both areas are served by an outdoor swimming pool with a view of the hills and a wine bar, guaranteeing maximum relaxation and service. Breakfast will be held in both areas from 8 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. where the light lunch will also be served for total relaxation. The Ultimo Mulino Restaurant will be available every evening in the Reception area, characteristic menu and a renowned wine list. We recommend making a reservation.

Cons -
- The air conditioning was a little week on a warm day (90F).
- We booked our stay for 3 nights. Unfortunately we didn't work our travel plans fully. We were traveling from Cinque Terre. We did not realize how difficult and costly it would be to get there without renting a car. So we gave up a night to travel with friends. When we arrived at the hotel there was no mention to credit or refund and of course we accepted our part. BUT.... as we were bringing in our luggage David (hotel manager) slammed his cars hatchback on my back (trust me I saw stars) & he acted like nothing happened without even an apology.
- The mattress was a bit hard but ok. The biting flys at the pool, and the pool was cold.

Very unique building. The food was great. The breakfast spread was one of the best in Italy!

This hotel is absolutely stunning! The host were gracious and helpful throughout our visit. The breakfast was amazing and we were close to many scenic locations and shopping.
Very clean. Wonderful staff especially Nozila, who was so generous with her assistance and information and insights. The views from the rooms were stunning.
We had a very minor issue positioning the overhead shower, but that was more of a slight inconvenience.
Beautiful location, spacious room and excellent breakfast. Staff was very friendly.
Great place. The location is magnificent - surrounded by the Tuscan woods - perfect for relaxation. There is a creek on the property you can hear in addition to a trail that invites you to explore the area. The restaurant on the property is top notch, with really good food and the breakfast is very diversified and fresh. There is a little town close by (by car) that has a myriad of other things to do. Our room had a little terrace out in the bank, perfect for a good time with a glass of wine.
rooms were very small and you could hear the neighbors.
It was absolutely beautiful! The property, the rooms, everything about it was exceptional. Friendly and helpful staff who treated us like family instead of guests. The outdoor dining was in a gorgeous setting with excellent food, wine and service!
Nothing!
Breakfast was great, as was dinner. Anton and Giacomo were very friendly and helpful. The pool and the property overall is beautiful.
Extremely friendly staff, really exceptional reception. Incredible - and I mean incredible - infinity pool and view. Really good breakfast, everything you need. Nice situated in hillside, 8 min car ride to next small village with good restaurants.
Drinks by pool which they offer and bring were way overcharged, more expensive than most high class restaurants (6e small beer, 7e ordinary house wine). If you know (better than us) it's easy to avoud and just drink your own. Unfortunately we had very noisy neighbors next to our room who we heard long into the night despite ear plugs, rooms are not that well insulated in terms of sound. Also someone was smoking downstairs outside entrance (below our room no1) every night which was annoying.
Good location to lots of winery’s! Comfortable rooms. Staff super friendly and helpful
Can be noisy in the rooms if people downstairs in the breakfast area. Warm rooms in April and no aircon can be used
Lovely stay here! The hotel is beautiful and very clean and comfortable, amazing water pressure in the shower, spacious rooms, and the staff so attentive and kind! The breakfast was also absolutely fantastic. Would love to stay here again. There's lots of parking available too.
Nothing!
We loved the pool. The beds were comfortable. We loved the view from the windows. The room was spacious.
The pool was very nice but not heated. Great on hot days but not on cloudy days.Breakfast was great with a great variety of options. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Overall we loved our stay!
Not worth your money.
This was one of the worst hotel experiences we've had. While the location is beautiful, the staff were rude and made us feel uncomfortable, as if we were inconveniencing them by asking for basic assistance. We arrived late at night and, before even being welcomed, the receptionist informed us that the restaurant was fully booked, leaving us with no options for food. We were in the middle of nowhere on a very cold night, and when we requested something simple to eat, they were unhelpful and dismissive, essentially telling us to find food elsewhere.Later, another staff member offered to make us food, but it was poorly prepared and overpriced. When we arrived in our room, we asked for extra blankets because it was cold, and they told us they couldn't turn on the heating since it was summer, even though it was only 8°C outside.Overall, the beautiful setting was overshadowed by poor service and a lack of care for guests. It’s simply not worth the money. Breakfast was also disappointing, with limited options that didn’t look fresh.
A really lovely hotel set in the tuscan hills, so you get a lovely drive in and view. The room is comfortable and very nice size bathroom. The breakfast was good and staff were friendly.
You need a car to get about and do anything. There was an adjoining door in the room so could hear next door very loudly and clearly.
location was fantastic. Unfortunately there was a group that booked the entire aperativo / dinner space. it was also quite cold so we were not able to use the outdoor facilities at the property or the neighbouring property but the pools looked stunning.
we had a room on the 2nd floor so when dinner / breakfast / cleaning started it was quite loud. also if there was someone outside you could hear them perfectly through the door. there was no window in the bedroom so was quite dark (unless you kept the patio door open which was accessible by all guests/ staff).
Beautiful and peaceful little hotel in a fabulous setting. Staff were friendly and welcoming without ever feeling intrusive. The food in the restaurant was really outstanding - definitely the best that we experienced in a couple of weeks in Florence and Rome.
The restaurant didn't do lunch. There is a sister hotel which is about 1 minute away by car so we went there at lunchtime. Worth the trip anyway as the pool there is great.
Clean, cozy hotel in the heart of Chianti. Beatiful house with beatiful architecture.Beatiful, green and full of nature place.Restaurant serves perfect dinners. Especially meats - it’s a really food-experience. Also great wines from local wineries. Prices in restaurant are little higher than in towns around in Chianti but this is really great food with really great service so I think this 2-4 EUR per dish is not a big problem.Breakfast very good. Great coffee and I think everyone could find something.Nice swimming pool.
Rooms could be little bigger but you are not in Tuscany to stay in the room so it’s not a real problem. Please notice that without car you can’t do anything in this area - even nearest town is too far by walk (especially in the summer).
- great location- dreamy local place, great garden. - 2 nice swimming pools, one bigger with a view and one smaller, more intimate. - good price.
- property is a lot smaller than it seems on booking pictures- food was not good, do not eat here for dinner! The food doesn’t have any taste at all. - we asked for an invoice and didn’t get one even if it was promised
