Pros +
- The service was outstanding. We messed up our reservation and didn't account for what we thought was our first night. They handled it and just extended our reservation, making is super simple. The breakfast was awesome as were all of their food and wine. The grounds and amenities like the spa was awesome even though it was cloudy and rained the whole time. Lastly, it was nice and quiet, which we really appreciated.
- Unique. A wonderful conversion of an 11th century monastery
- Castello di Spaltenna is one of our favorite hotels to stay at. This was actually our third time there and we expect to go back when we travel to Chianti. Our kids, 3 & 5, love staying there too, with the amazing pools and delicious food. Can't wait till next time!
Cons -
- I can't point to one thing, honestly.
- Mattress far too hard. Also shower tub combo not practical.
- The only "complaint" is we wish the beds were a little bit more comfortable, but thats really it.

The property is gorgeous. The staff is really great. The food was good. Large rooms. Great massage!
Not a lot of diversity in guests. Almost all were American (including us). Kind of takes you out of being away in Italy a little bit. But, there is a cute little town right down the hill, 3 minutes away that you can get your fill of Italian culture at.
We were so impressed with the history and beauty of the property. The staff is very professional. Parking is easy. Breakfast was the best we had at any of our stays in italy, the staff at breakfast was so nice and friendly. The view is absolutely amazing. We loved walking the property. The spa included for an hour was a great addition. We really liked the location. We would absolutely stay here again
the amount of stairs to get to our room was tiring but it's not a surprise since it is an old monastery! They carried our luggage so it wasnt a problem at all. The main issue was the regular restaurant was unavailable for the days we were staying there which they did not tell us about in advance and was kind of frustrating.
View, pool, service…
Room was dark although spacious
An absolutely stunning property with spectacular views over the Tuscan countryside. The rooms were gorgeous. The infinity swimming pool sublime. Great food and the service from all the staff was professional and friendly.
The breakfast terrace is spectacular . All personnel very helpful and efficient . Excellent location near to the village and several good restaurants .
Nothing to mention that we did not like !
This hotel is best of the best in Tuscany. Beautiful pool, gorgeous garden and the breakfast area offers the best view
The new infinity pool is beautiful and the scenery is breathtaking. A bit cool for swimming but soon it will be warmer. Breakfast buffet was plentiful with a lot of variety and delicious choices. Our dining experience was difficult and our waitress was not attentive, did not explain options for our vegetarian family member and rushed us through. She was training new staff members and it was not very smooth service.
See above for the dining experience in the Osteria. Our waitress was not on her game that evening. I also wanted to buy some items from the ceramics shop but must have mis-communicated with the sales person because she was closed for 2.5 hours when we had to leave and I unfortunaltely missed out on the beautiful pieces.
Loved the terrace overlooking the hills and vineyards for the morning breakfast. There were numerous stations with may choices including fresh fruits, breads ,rolls, meats, cheeses, eggs and fresh juices as well as cappuccinos and expressos. The staff were professional but friendly. The infinity pool overlooking the hills and vineyards was stunning. We loved the wellness facility with the beautiful steam rooms, ice showers and jacuzzi. Every effort was made to assure your stay was one you will never forget. We loved it!
One small thing we would have liked is possibly more choices for snacks and food for the afternoon wine and apertife time on the terrace.
This Place is an Absolute Gem! We traveled as a family and had a 5 & 2 year old daughters and they loved the place. Whatever I write will not do it justice. Just go and sample for yourself. The place is gorgeous, The staff are amazing and even for the busiest of people you find yourself relaxing within moments of arriving!!!!
That we had to leave and go home back to reality!
Beautiful location, staff was very nice and helpful, beautiful pool.
Bathrooms a bit dated I would not choose this hotel if you have kids it’s extremely quiet and that’s the way the hotel wants it.
location , pool, restaurants
poor breakfast choices, gym & indoor pool needs improvement
The architecture and location were astounding. The views were simply beautiful!
It was not the most comfortable bed.
Out of the way but worth it. Beautiful area/views. Hotel is an Old, 1000 year old monastery. Beautiful, clean infinity pool that looks to view. Gorgeous.Property and grounds well maintained. Staff professional and friendly.Restaurants good.Rooms old but renovated bathrooms.
Flat, uncomfortable pillows. It’s a little expensive.I got a little intestinal distress from their food..
Beautiful resort! Exceptional setting!
Prices in the two restaurants very high for what you get. It is a 5 star resort, ok, but probably more guests would stay for dinner, if prices were a little bit more reasonable.
Great location, comfort and beautiful place to stay. It has the castle look but with all the updated amenities and the infinity pool is simply amazing.
Beautiful location, charming castle and spa facilities, and also an incredible breakfast.
The shower had a low pressure hot water with only few drops falling, what was a problem at night. Although they have a Michelin recommended restaurant, it works with half capacity and is not available for guests without early reservation.
stunning property in the Tuscan hills. beautiful facilities, including outdoor infinity pool overlooking green hills and valleys and indoor pool with spa facilities.
the one Michelin star restaurant had exceptional service and staff. however I felt the menu was a touch under power. in fact the much cheaper second restaurant serving local food was much better value for money.
