Staff were helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. The location is so beautiful and calming. The hotel itself is very comfortable, not going overboard on luxury, which I like, and very well looked after.

The location obviously can't be beaten. The lake view from the room brought serenity and calm. The staff was polite and allowed for privacy. The room was clean. Loved the variety and the quality of the plant based options for breakfast, just outstanding. Enjoyed also the dinner experience in the hotel restaurant - excellent and attentive chef. Liked the check out time that allowed for a leisure morning.

I feel so fortunate that a friend recommended that we visit this magical place. The setting was stunning, the staff and other guests so friendly, and the history of both the hotel and the land were fascinating to learn during our stay. Even after just a single night's stay, we left feeling like we were leaving behind old friends.

It truly felt like we had to tear ourselves away the morning we left! But we were armed with Katy's recommendations for our future travels so that helped ease the pain somewhat ;)

Absolutely loved everything about our stay here. It was our 10 year anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade. Dinner was excellent. The chef even came out for a little chat. Everyone was super friendly and helpful.

The hotel had a lot of character and history. We absolutely loved the displayed pictures and artifacts of what it looked like back in the day, people who worked there, what their restaurant's menu was decades ago, etc. It felt as though we got to spend a few days in an antique store. This certainly was a unique and heartwarming feature that set this hotel apart from any other property we stayed in on our week-long trip to Ireland. The preserved history reflected in the hotel's decor made it look and feel charming and authentic. The food we had at the hotel's restaurant for dinner and breakfast was locally sourced, fresh, and delicious. The menu options were somewhat limited, but everything we tried tasted great. The location of the hotel was exactly what we were looking for: the place is tucked away from the busy road, only a few other houses near to us, we could see adorable sheep a few feet across from our windows, and barely any random vehicles or people. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The only thing that some people may find deterring is the bathroom. As mentioned, the hotel is old, and the bathtubs are combined with showers. The shower curtains weren't waterproof, and the water soaked through the fabric and onto the floor. This wasn't a major issue for us, but we did have to spend some time figuring out how to keep the water from running on the floor.

The staff, the location, the food, the atmosphere were all absolutely incredible. Neil and Katy were incredible hosts. It was my first time coming to Gougane Barra after hearing about it for the last nine years from my girlfriend. Needless to say I understand the hype

Lovely decor, very nice bar, restaurant and relaxation areas with stunning views. ⁸

Gluten free breakfast not great.

The location is amazing & one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. Breakfast was very good. The dining room is cosy & looking into the lake. Staff were efficient & friendly.

To be extremely picky. We could have done with a shelf of some kind under the bathroom mirror but apart from that, there was nothing we were unhappy about.

The location is superb, next to a small lake with cliffs and an old church. All peaceful and beautiful. The owner and all the personal were great. The little bar is a gem. The food is very good.

The room was really small (but cozy and the bathroom was of good size).

Top notch food and the setting looking out at the lake was special. The food is cooked for you so not a buffet.

A beer garden overlooking the water would be a special addition.
