Pros +
- Great old house on Donau.
- Location. Beautiful view of the Danube and stone bridge. Very unique location in the tower of a 900 year old chapel. Great staffer gave us a history of the town. Great room staff too.
- The location was outstanding. Close to all the attractions in town. The view out of the room onto the old bridge was terrific.
Cons -
- We were on 5th floor walk up- with no shower curtain in mbr- primitive wood floors with poor lighting.
- It is getting harder in our 70’s to climb winding staircases and negotiate ancient floors and surprise drops in doorways. We did it and was wort the effort. We weren’t aware this spot was a block away from the main hotel it belonged to.
- No breakfast at the location. We had to go to the partner hotel for breakfast. This was a minor issue, and we were aware of it at the time of booking.

Excellent room with a view of the Donau and bridge
TV, reception
A lovely building with loads of charm and character. The location is great right on the riverside and just a two minute walk to the town centre.
I don’t want to be negative as it’s a lovely place but I feel I should point out some issues which would’ve been useful for us to know as I would’ve booked elsewhere. This isn’t really a hotel with any facilities, just an annex to the main hotel, Hotel Goliath. There is no bar or restaurant and breakfast is in the Goliath, nor is any parking or even anywhere to pull up to unload. There is parking nearby under the cathedral and I would recommend parking before going to hotel Goliath to check it otherwise you have to weave your way through the town centre to get to the parking. No lift just a spiral staircase to walk up with luggage so not suited to anyone with mobility issues.
We loved everything about Hotel David an der Donau! We stayed on the 4th floor in two beautiful rooms with big beams, wonderful wood floors and views of the Danube. The decor was rustic yet elegant and the beds were more than comfortable. These rooms are called the "sporty" rooms because you have to walk up many steps to get to them, but to us it was well worth it! Yes, the wood floors creaked when you walked on them and yes, the shower water splashed in the bathroom a bit, but again, we loved everything about these unique rooms so this didn't bother us at all. And, I haven't even mentioned the location. It was perfectly situated so we could walk everywhere in the old town of Regensburg. If you are looking for a hotel that is charming and has an historic background, look no further, this is definitely the one!
We have no complaints, we loved staying at Hotel an der Donau!
It is very charming and well located. It is plenty warm and big bathrooms. The tower is 900 years old.
I left my phone at the bar and when I picked it up at the front desk the next morning they had fully charged it for me! It was dead. Above and beyond. Now that’s service!
Only stairs and no Wi-Fi
I loved that it was right on the water and close to everything. The historic vibe can’t be beat.
No hot water for 24 hours
Interesting building
Was told at check in breakfast would be no charge. Not the case
When we went to reception to check out after the first of our two nights the woman was very understanding and only charged us for the first night.
The room was on the third floor, it was very hot and opening the windows was not an option due to the continuous noise from the street below and the bees (there were no window screens). The main door to the building opened with no key. We informed the hotel, and they said they were aware if the issue. Given the boisterous foot traffic all night on this street, this was not ideal.Wi-fi signal was very weak in the room.Parking is not convenient at all. It was not clear that we could leave the car in front of Hotel Goliath for check-in (there were no signs out front and it was a busy area). The closest parking lot, about 500m away, cost 15€ per night (hotel discount) but was very tight. In fact, the car in front of us crashed into a pole, damaging the door. The mattress is soft, which may be a positive for some people. We decided to cut our two night stay in half and checked out early.
The location is super convenient to shops and restaurants, and the room is beautifully done—a lively mix of old and modern. Thank goodness for the double paned windows.
There is no AC, and it was broiling on the upper floor. They did bring us a small fan, which helped. The room faced the street, and every kid was out partying until the wee hours. We had to close the windows (which were very effective at blocking the noise), so we couldn’t get ventilation at night. Other small complaint is the clear bathroom door. We prefer more privacy.
Classy, simple, respectfully restored old building near to the river with views of the stone bridge. Brick, black marble, stone and plenty of original features .
Unstaffed but clearly indicated this at booking . It wasn’t a problem
The historical building of the hotel David is beautiful.
There was no receptionist or any other person at our arrival at the hotel David, not even a phone or another way to communicate with the staff. We had to go walking three times to the hotel Goliath (a 7 minutes walk at 30 degrees Celsius, after a long journey driving), where the reception turned out to be. The person who attended us, did not offer help or advice to move in to our room. We didn't know, where it was and we walked up and down the steep staircases without finding it. All this with two suitcases. And the room turned out to be in the 4th floor of the hotel David. After repeated request for help, a very friendly person gave us a hand with the luggage. The room in the 4th floor was a mansard (probably the former smokehouse, deducing oh the strong reek of smoked ham), directly under the roof and highly heated up by the sun. No air-condition, due to the historical status. But neither a ceiling fan or any other device to make the temperature bearable. More than 30 degrees, for sure. We opened the tiny roof windows, to get some air current. But this meant to let in the noise from a roaring street on a Saturday evening. Impossible to sleep until 2 in the morning. On the next day, again nobody to attend the hotel-guests. No help to get the luggage down. To get breakfast, again walking to the Goliath Hotel, where we luckily checked out to come back never again.
This is a spacious hotel in the centre of Fussen and very convenient for the train station and bus hub. The room was very quiet and clean and the breakfast selection was excellent - you could even have strawberries from the chocolate fountain. Downstairs during the day there is an excellent cake shop and ice cream counter. On arrival we were given a Fussen card which gave us free travel on all buses and trains for some distance (it's part of your city tax). We even got to Kempten for free! (90 minute travel). The buses to take you to Neuschwanstein Castle and the Tegelberg, are from along the road outside the station - go early as they and the castles fill up pretty quickly. Lots of places to eat in the town and the castle and cathedral are worth a visit too.
It was only 26 degrees when we visited but we sweltered in our room at night. It was not hot enough for the hotel to turn on the air con but the mattresses are enveloped in thick plastic covers which make you very hot. Also our fridge was not working which meant our pints of milk kept going off ( we Brits need our cups of tea!) we reported the fridge problem but it was not sorted during our week's stay.
Hotel David is the dependence of hotel Goliash where the reception is working. There is no lift, and the guest should walk to the Goliath for breakfast as well. When receptionist saw that we are disabled she immediately offered us the accommodation in main, more comfortable hotel. The helped us with parking as well!
Wonderful charm in this old historic building. The rooms were unique with an old historic feel yet updated with modern conveniences.
The bathroom had a glass door so there was no privacy from anyone else in the room. No reason to have a door at that point.
The staff was very friendly and super helpful. The location of the hotel is very convenient and the room was really clean and had a beautiful design.
Appointments were unique and complimented the restoration themes of his historic building beside the Danube. Excellent sized bathroom and shower. Very clean. Interesting old world feel with up to date furnishings. Very close to the main tourist and shopping sites. Lots of interesting restaurants near by. Viking River cruise dock is within walking distance.
It was not a big factor for our stay but there did not appear to be elevators, just the interesting winding staircase to the third floor. The suite did not initially have arrangements for coffee or tea such as a kettle, cups or coffee maker. The very responsive staff did promptly bring a set when asked. Next time I would ask for a river side suite if possible. The street view is OK but we were awakened by some 2 AM Thursday night youth on the street below. Could be a bigger problem in summer since the unit did not appear to have AC.
The hotel location is not bad, mostly walking distance to all landmarks and right next to the stone bridge.
Parking was a bit far, a bit inconvenient if you have luggages. The check-in was also somewhere else like a street down the road at another hotel. Room I got was on the 1st floor, had no view and small for a double bed room it felt quite claustrophobic.
