    Pros +

    • This is my dream hotel. I felt completely at home and slept so well. Everything is of highest quality, especially the warm service from the restaurant and reception staff.
    • This is the best place to stay in Hakodate! It's a lovely boutique hotel in a great location to walk around and explore. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. Coffee, tea, and wine are free of charge in the lobby! And the suite room was huge with a large soaking tub and 2 balconies. We liked Hakodate even more than Sapporo, with more charm and old town feel.
    • Outstanding customer service; spacious, well-appointed room with commanding view of the town; excellent breakfast

    Cons -

    • The ropeway (gondola) was closed this week for maintenance, but I still enjoyed walking in the neighborhood. Many nearby restaurants close very early during the week. Perhaps a list of restaurants that stay open after 8 pm?
    • Absolutely nothing
    • can't think of anything

Great location for viewing tourist attractions, very sweet and hospitable staff, amazing breakfasts (definitely worth it to add breakfast here). Our room was on the bigger side with a kitchenette, which was really helpful because we were doing our first big trip with our six month old baby and needed to sterilize bottles. They provided a crib and lots of toiletries. There's also a free laundry room and a spa within the hotel, both of which we used. There's also free wine in the lobby.

Not the hotel's fault, but If the trams are having delays, it's a 25 minute walk from Hakodate ekimae.

Excellent service, large, comfortable rooms and a wonderful breakfast

    9VudhipongPosted on: 10-15-2025

What we like most is the willingness to serve both on the front desk and especially the restaurant. For the desk, both the staffs (lady and gentleman) are eagerly serve and patiently explain things to us both inside and outside hotel. The staffs in the restaurant are exceptionally to be mention, the waiter is neat in his job and perfectly in service . He performs the job with his proud. The chef is also great in cooking and care for their guests. Thank you for make our stay great! This hotel is in walking distance to the pier and interesting area around

For the hotel - no.But for the trip : the rope way station is closed 1 month until november for maintainence.

The stuff is wonderfull, the room was exellent, breakfast was great. I had my 60 birthday and baloons and champaign and a "happy birthay" baloon hanged over our bed.

    The absence of onsen.

Great service, love the size of the room and amenities. I enjoyed the breakfast a lot

Exceptional experience. Large kitchen suite with what appears to be hand built stereo speakers and tube amp, DVD player w extensive cd and dvd collections. Would like to meet the person responsible for such a big investment in the stereos. Adjacent to Mt Hakodate 'Ropeway' and the many sites in Motomachi. Breakfasts were exquisite w many courses/ taste experiences. Also, cooler here than Sapporo in summer.

The experience here is the perfect example of the Japanese concept of "omotenashi", where it is the goal is to provide hospitality not for any other reason but to ensure the guest's well-being. You always had the feeling you were being taken care of without excess or intrusiveness.

Wifi in the room was sometimes a bit unreliable (sites not loading or taking too long to load).

    8StephanPosted on: 2-24-2025

These people walk the extra mile for their guests. The room was fantastic, even with a stereophile worthy super stereo and a full set for making hand brewed freshly ground coffee. Nice beds and duvets. Free drinks, incl wine, in the lobby. They really do their best to make their guests feel special, at a reasonable price. The breakfast was huge and really really delicious.

    10IveveiPosted on: 2-19-2025

We had welcome drinks - free flow of wine and coffee. We were really impressed and grateful for the service. There was also complementary pudding for dessert. The room was huge with a living area and kitchenette. Amazed at the great sound system and you could take CDs from their library to play in your room. We felt so pampered! Breakfast was excellent - delicious and well balanced. First day was Japanese and second day was western fusion. So nice to start the day with a view of Mt Hakodate.

Not the fault of the hotel but they are on a slope and it was icy in winter. Be careful not to slip and fall when walking.

Rooms were spacious and incredibly well-appointed, clean, and wonderfully serviceable. Breakfast was divine - so far above expectations as to be out-of-this-world. Would HIGHLY recommend to everyone coming to Hakodate!!

    9ChristopherPosted on: 12-12-2024

Breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed it very much. The staff were very courteous and helpful. There was wine on tap in the lobby.

Although the room was very spacious and large, it did look quite dated and needed some work compared to some of the other Japanese properties we stayed at.

    10HaliPosted on: 12-9-2024

We loved the rooms. We had a full kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The room was very large and comfortable. We did not realize that we got breakfast, so that was a pleasant surprise. It was a full breakfast, and was very good.

    10ChenPosted on: 12-8-2024

Excellent location, superior service, awesome breakfast (better than most 5 stars hotel)

    8SanchiPosted on: 11-13-2024

Loved the breakfast. The coffee in the room was fabulous. The free wine and drinks in the evening was a great surprise!

However, there should be some a la carte options available for lunch and dinner. Especially for guests who arrive late. Or else one has to step out even though one is tired after a long journey.

A very nice and well maintained mansion style hotel full of warm and welcoming details. 10-minute walk away to the famous local ropeway to mountain top where the birds-eye view is stunning. Bay Area and some famous historical sites are easily reachable. I especially like the CD collection displayed in the lobby of classy jazz or bossanova music. Breakfast is delicious and well presented. Wish all the best to all the staff and the master of this hotel.

Pretty hotel with gorgeous decorations. Friendly staff always meets your expectations. All of my family members love the healthy breakfast set.

    8KoksiongPosted on: 9-29-2024

We think that the breakfast was amazing in terms of quantity, quality and presentation. Breakfast came as a set meal, alternating between western and Japanese food. Both were delicious. The staff were very helpful, polite and hospitable. The hotel has a homely vibe with lots of books, cds at the lounge area. Our room was equipped with a good cd player and a coffee beans grinder.
