Pros +
- Location and value for money. Lots of people bicycling seem to use this hotel as a base. (They tend to eat breakfast early.
- Newly renovated rooms, friendly & helpful staff, great food
- Bed and bathroom was clean and comfortable. Good storage room for bikes.
Cons -
- Room was a bit small and the pool was very cold.I stayed there at the end of September after a cold temperature streak which ended up being warmer when I was there. (Unheated pool after several cold nights =cold pool) This is not a criticism of the establishment only a reflection on my experience.
- Nothing!
- I deliberately chose and booked the Ertl Hotel because I was coming off the Drauradweg. The reservation was made & confirmed at the beginning of March. Then 2 days prior of my arrival because of “unforeseen overbooking” (seriously in the age of technology?!) they moved me to their partner hotel the Erlebnis right on the main road in downtown Spittal. Since the system still shows that I stayed at the Ertl I can only review the Erlebnis. The hotel is rundown yes full of old things which I didn’t find artsy. It seemed like someone furnished the whole place with whatever used things they found. The idea is cute but without interior design the effort is completely lost. A paint & cleaning is way overdue! My room also needed cleaning. It’s unusual for Austria to find such unkept conditions.

Nice staff and beautiful mexican food
Room a little too small for two single beds
Good location and pets friendly ??This is an old hotel with history, a lot of historic photos on walls. Not a fancy one so don’t expect anything crazy. Just good friendly place, good people, pets allowed!
I honestly liked everything cause I don’t expect something from simple hotels like that. Can recommend it for couple nights for sure if you are in that city?
We had a nice appointed room
Old and stained carpet in three hallways
Location, parking, staff was nice. Food was okay.
Well, based on 4 stars of the hotel I would assume they would have AC. I know its my fault that i presumed it and didnt check it ... but since it was 37 degrees outside it was extremely unbearable to sleep…. Also with 4 months old baby.
Great sized room for the 4 of us. Loved the swimming pool, and the offer of extra towels by the pool and bar service. The hotel is close to town for restaurants and shops. The breakfast was really good.
Breakfast was excellent and super abundant, closeness to the city center a plus, the swimming pool very clean and enjoyable, availability of extra towels, very kind personnel.
- Good breakfast- Clean room- Bike garage
It was comfortable. There is a nice restaurant at the hotel. Pool area is very cosy.
We went in summer and it was too hot at night.
Really nice hotel with very friendly staff, great restaurant and nice pool. Ideal for stay over when traveling to the south of Europe
The location
The food was very greasy and dessert was undercooked so couldn't eat
Our family room was super spacious and modern, with a good en suite bathroom. It was quiet and comfortable. There was a good storage room downstairs where we could leave our bikes securely. The hotel is well located for the Drau cycle path and the station. It's a short walk into town. We didn't use the pool because the weather wasn't great but we would have if it had been warmer!

nice staff.
We stayed here 2 seperate nights since we did a roadtrip. we started and ended our roadtrip here. The first night we were put in a room that didn´t even look close to the pictures. it looked old an cheap. We felt like we were put away in a `spare room` since it was also not in the main building. The second night we were actually in the hotel and this room was exactly like the pictures. since we were only staying one night at a time it was fine, but it was not as expected and misleading. Breakfast can also be a bit more wide.
very helpful staff - restaurant was unexpectedly closed but owners did drive us to a different restaurant in town. Great spot on the way to Villach cycling and very handy for the bike route next day
An absolutely wonderful hotel - we had a mountain view room which was such a stunning view! LOVED the pool, was our favourite part chilling in the garden and enjoying swimming with the mountain view - wonderful.Room was comfy and very clean! Great breakfast too and friendly helpful staff :)
My only comment would be it needed a fan provided as there is no air-con and it's very stuffy at night. With the window open, you get eaten alive by mosquitos!
They did an excellent job in refurbishing the property. Rooms are very spacious, modern and cosy
