About

The Cityhotel Ratheiser is a stylish and traditional hotel in the center of Klagenfurt, only a few minutes’ walk from the major sights. The listed building was constructed in 1760. The 2 stone lions at the entrance are silent witnesses of the past, once being part of the eastern gate of Carinthia’s capital. The charming Cityhotel Ratheiser offers a rich breakfast buffet, an exclusive tea parlor and a well-stocked wine cellar. An internet terminal is available at the reception.

    Cons -

    • I just filtered by "parking", didn't check the details. Parking means public, it is available in the street next to the hotel, but it is in the paid zone. It wasn't a problem at all (and pretty cheap), but you need to pay between 8-18. I used the EasyPark app.
    • That I could stay longer
    • Some minor inconveniences that I shared with the owner

Great central location, lovely owner lady, tasty breakfast. Lovely traditional, old fashion pansion.

The spiral staircase was loud, and the bedroom was upstairs and bathroom downstairs.

What a find. This charming, elegant place is just brimming with Austro-Hungarian history. A former monastery built in 1760 (its still retains facets of its original architecture) it was once hosted the Emperor Franz Josef himself for a night during his visit to the city in 1806. His portraits are everywhere among a treasure trove of regal and local artefacts which add to the hotel's stylish history. The owner/manager is a very interesting lady, whose father was a well-known local politician and worth a chat with. My only regret is I couldn't stay another night because I had a plane to catch.

A fairly good breakfast. A large room. The hotel is reasonably characterful and olde worlde.

The room was slightly too expensive for what you get and was rather basic and old-fashioned. The shower could have been cleaner. The bedroom was slightly bizarrely linked to the bathroom by a steep spiral staircase, which would be challenging for someone with mobility problems. The location is slightly outside of the city centre.

We had a wonderful stay! The room was clean and spacious, the staff was nice and friendly. The location is perfect- 10 min of a relaxed walk to the city center and the bus station is right in front of the hotel door. The area is quiet and nice. It’s definitely a value for money!

Very traditional decor, quirky and individual. My room was very clean and spacious. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Would stay again if in the area.

Close to the city center. Very kind owner, Beautiful rooms and decoration from 19th century. Good breakfast.

Was no hand wash soap. For my partner a little bit cold room.

It was my second stay here and I got a "one-person room" that was actually more like a suite, with a bedroom and a small, separate living room, a basic kitchen and a bathroom. The hotel still breathes a nostalgic charm of times long gone by.

There are very little or none vegetarian or vegan options for breakfast, so I brought some extra bread spread with me.

The hotel is centrally located and our room was very spacious. Parking is very difficult. The host warned me repeatedly not to leave the car outside or I would get a ticket. On the morning we were leaving, I left the car outside for 5 minutes to collect our bags and we got a ticket. The host was very apologetic and agreed to pay half the fine. Not the host's fault, but something to be aware of.

    The breakfast is very basic.

We particularly liked the style of the building throughout and the comfort of the room. The staff were very friendly and approachable.

We spent only one night and we cannot mention anything we didn't like.

This hotel is a step back in time with the room which was large and the breakfast room which was a combination of several rooms. It was obviously a family home converted into a hotel and one room was full of old memories.

    10LaszloPosted on: 6-22-2023

Large room. The window faced to some sort of a backyard but it was quiet. Breakfast was good.

It's an old family-run hotel with signs of other times, but clean and well-maintained. The hotel is located on the border of the downtown. It's only 5 min walk to the main sightseeing places and museums. The train station is about 15 min walk. Our room (actually we got a kind of suit) consisted of two spaces: a bedroom and a living room with a kitchenette, which we didn't use, but it was nice to have a fridge. There is a sauna in the basement, which can be pre-ordered. I used it once and enjoyed it greatly. Breakfast was good. The only minus: the internet is not very reliable: it's OK to check emails, but don't plan a proper working day or online film screening.
