    Pros +

    • breakfast was excellent with great service
    • It was close to the medieval market
    • The location of the hotel with respect to "old town" Esslingen was nice. The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was OK.

    Cons -

    • No coffee machine in the room. No attendant in evening hours. Did not know how to acess internet
    • The parking was ridiculous. Layered the cars to where you could barely get in and had to wait for people to move their cars before we could move ours. The vinyl on the bed frame was peeling off.
    • Parking lot behind the hotel tiny and unorganized. Elevator only for one person, which actually wasn't problem for us, since travelling light with small bags, just fyi.

Everything about this simple, family-run hotel pleased me. Not just the well-stocked breakfast and the fast internet, but the simple things that often go unnoticed: the instant hot water, the fully functional shower head (the handheld ones often have broken wall mounts, but not this one), hooks on the walls (why is this so rare in hotels these days?), and real hangers (not the kind where they can only be used in the closet) so I could do a little sink-laundry and hang my t-shirts and socks to dry near the window. The location was also a real plus: a few hundred meters straight up the street from the train station and right on the edge of the Altstadt. And what an Altstadt Eßlingen has to offer! It was my first visit to this lovely little city, but I will return, and when I do it will be to the Hotel am Schelztor. Oh, and did I mention little Max, the friendly little pup who "guards" the reception area in the morning?

Excellent breakfast for a hotel this size, really good location, easy to reach with car and next to old town centre.

Parking lot behind the hotel tiny and unorganized. Elevator only for one person, which actually wasn't problem for us, since travelling light with small bags, just fyi.

    Close to the city center

Old fashion. No reception open after 16:00. Much too expensive breakfast. No children discount

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to friends and family. The town of Esslingen is a lovely place to visit, and the hotel is very well situated to both the old town and the railway station.

Location, room, staff were all great - very helpful front desk.

Nice hotel in the center of Esslingen with free parking, close to the shopping streets, with a comfortable bed.

The hotel is in an incredible location for the Christmas market. It was a great size and the bathroom had a bathtub which was a huge bonus. The staff were very friendly and we really enjoyed our stay.

The location is the best part about this property. Close to restaurants, Christmas Markets, and a grocery store that is open late.

The property is old. The room is tiny and dated. The parking is extremely limited.

Convenient to the old town, helpful staff and good breakfast. Also appreciated the private on-site parking.

The room was clean and has very good location.

The toilet is very small. They don’t have the bathtub which is included on the room that we booked. The Sauna is not available. And one Staff was a little bit rude when we asked her if we could change to a room with bathtub.

Amazing central location, wonderful staff, clean rooms, excellent security.

Great location for sightseeing as near the old town centre, and good for work as just a 5 minute walk from main transportation centre.Rooms spacious and fairly modern - good bathroom, air con but no fridge.

Unusual to find a hotel that does not have a bar, or access after 6pm other than by a key box outside, so no check in, directions etc. No evening meal facilities. Very expensive stay for the facilities provided, but not out of the ordinary for the area - however there is a newer hotel close by I stayed at recently with 24/7 reception, bar and lounge areas and much more modern rooms for a similar price.

    7SandraPosted on: 8-14-2023

The location of the property is excellent, right next to the old town which is beautiful.

No tea or coffee facilities in the room

    10ReuterPosted on: 7-30-2023

The front office staff and the cleaning crew were so nice! They helped me out after I lost my key (which I accidentally left behind at a family member's house) and couldn't get into the hotel late at night. The room was always spotless after a cleaning. The location is ideal if you want to be near the train station (5 min walk) or close to all the shops/cafes/restaurants.

The decor is a bit outdated. And the walls/wallpaper in my room could use some TLC.

    Location was great

Just a bit dated but clean and tidy
