    Pros +

    • The breakfast was amazing, I couldn’t think of anything that was missing! The beds were also very comfortable and the staff very friendly.
    • We had the biggest room with the balcony. It has an amazing view of the town from the room. Any room on that side would have views of the city. The view from the back rooms isn't bad either. Good breakfast. Helpful and kind staff. The rooms in the Refugio section are new and well thought out with lots of electrical plugs. They have four EV chargers.
    • Everything.

    Cons -

    • Whilst you get fabulous views over Würzburg on the hill, it’s a bit difficult to get to and from the city centre. If you’re planning on staying at the hotel for a relaxing spa weekend then this is a great choice. However, if you’re explorers like my partner and me, be prepared to walk 30-35min to the city centre with steep stairs. The taxi would also take 20min to get down so a car is also definitely needed to get here. Also, the rooms were not soundproof so ear plugs may be needed.
    • Refugio doesn't connect to the main building so you have to walk outside to get to the main building with the pool. It's not a problem if it's nice outside. They were pushy about getting reservations for dinner, but they aren't lying. My wife and I just wanted some wine, but no tables were available. It would be nice if they had a bar or somewhere else for drinks. The Refugio has some kind of bar but I think it's only for special events.
    • The rooms (and breakfast room) are kept very warm. That is wonderful in a place as big as a castle (usually it’s quite chilly), however too warm for me, which especially in the room was a bit of a challenge as I could not open the window.

Beautiful hotel in a historical building, the breakfast was excellent, the employees were supportive and helped with my suitcase in the stairs

Amazing rooms, beautiful scenery. Very unique property. We loved the castle rooms and the breakfast. Very friendly staff

    It was absolutely beautiful!

The only issue was it was far from town, not walking distance at all and the taxi was 25 to and from. Loved the location otherwise. Also not ideal for a lot of luggage there is no elevator and a ton of step narrow stairs. The staff is amazing and wil help you with your bags.

Gorgeous old hotel. Breakfast was great & plentiful. Front desk staff are fantastic!

Great location the room with the balcony is beautiful-having a walk next to the vineyard is really nice. Excellent breakfast. Parking facilities spacious!

The suites are incredibly comfortable and modern, and the views are spectacular. A perfect weekend getaway to relax.

We had no option to eat at the hotel, and had to have takeaway delivered.

    The staff and food.

Our room was awful - dangerous getting in and out of shower, no privacy, light came on in dark without movement, etc.

    6CeciliaPosted on: 7-4-2025

    Location

Lack of air con. Size of room. Some staff were quite abrupt

    7LPosted on: 6-19-2025

    Great view at mealtime.

Carrying luggage up many stairs with no lift and no AC

The hotel is as splendid as we remembered from ten years ago. The view from the balcony is wonderful. Our room was large and very comfortable- I asked for twin beds and got these. It was difficult to climb 2 1/2 flights of stairs every time we went up to our room but the staff took our suitcases up and down for us which was very helpful .

I didn't like the obligatory 3-course meal at dinner, and because of that the courses were so small it felt like a joke. I know about nouvelle cuisine but just decorating the food at dinner doesn't make it satisfying. If we hadn't had a basket of bread to go with dinner we would have left hungry - and paid a lot of money mainly for the excellent cooking and decorative food but not for a satisfying amount to eat.

On a hill overlooking Wurzburg . Stayed in the castle, which was delightful. Staff very helpful .

No elevator in the old building . Very limited dinner menu my 2nd night. Offering only multi- course meal, that was not impressive.

    Location.

I almost broke my toe on an unmarked step in the shower. The temperature of the water in the shower changes spontaneously no matter how it is set.

The staff and dinner wait staff are absolutely awesome. The facilities, wines and food on site are mind blowing!

The location is slightly difficult (but not impossible) to reach if you don’t know the way/have older navigation software

We always love a ‘unique building’ and this hotel did not disappoint! We were prepared for the ‘hike’ up 400 steps from the town! It is an excellent way to walk off your dinner - well lit and a pleasant walk through the vineyards. The room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and dining on the terrace was sublime!

Can’t fault the hotel or the staff. Just disappointed not to have had time to try the pool or sauna.
