Sadakham Hotel

The hotel manager was so helpful in all of our requests for recommendations. It felt like having an insider’s guide available at all times. The hotel is tucked down a quiet street, yet just a few minutes’ walk to the town center.

Beautiful place in great location. Very comfortable room and super friendly staff. Mr Nick was a great host.

Everything was great

The staff, in particular Nick, was especially helpful. When I brought an issue of overcharging to the owner he promptly corrected their error. The room was spacious and comfortable.

99% of the tours offered include riding elephants which in my opinion is unethical, and which I discussed with the owner. If I had known this, I would not have booked this hotel because I do not support those involved in any way with elephant riding. For this reason, I did not book tours through the hotel, but booked directly on my own. Upon arrival I was graciously offered a room upgrade which required me moving to another room on day 2 which I understood. However, several days later a manager identifying himself as the owner’s brother knocked on my door despite having a “do not disturb” sign, asking me to move in order to accommodate other arriving guests. (I was booked to stay 2 weeks). I do not think this is good customer service, and I declined to move.

The location was great. Walking distance from downtown. The swimming pool was nice and the exterior restaurant was nice with a good breakfast.

The beds are very noisy because of the wood. The staff is very helpful booking train tickets, recommendations, etc. although only one of them spoke very good English.

The hotel was very clean. The staff were very helpful and willing to assist. The location is close to the center.

The bottle water they dropped in the hotel room had a very terrible smell so I could not drink it. I suggest they change the bottle water to another type.

My 3-night stay at Sadakham Hotel in Luang Prabang was absolutely phenomenal! The room was spotless, cozy, and perfectly equipped for a relaxing solo getaway. The stunning view overlooking the serene lotus pond added a magical touch to my mornings and evenings. The staff, led by the exceptional service manager, Junior, were incredibly friendly and attentive, going above and beyond to ensure every detail of my stay was perfect. Breakfast was a delight—fresh, diverse, and bursting with delicious local and international flavors. The complimentary bike was a fantastic bonus, allowing me to explore Luang Prabang’s charming streets with ease. Thanks to Junior and the team, Sadakham Hotel made my trip truly unforgettable, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone visiting Laos!

On arrival I was asked to “help” by cancelling my booking. Unfortunately, I hadn’t read that this is a common occurrence at this hotel because the reviews on Booking.com are mostly positive. Check reviews on Google Maps for the other side to this hotel. I guess they are trying to avoid booking fees or something but by not disclosing this information and giving no reason for the cancellation, why would I want to cancel and leave myself with no evidence of booking? I refused to cancel my booking, then paid in cash and all was well. No problem. The hotel itself isn’t bad but I think people should be aware of this behaviour at check-in as it may be unsettling for some.

Location and quiet atmosphere were perfect. I very much appreciated the ability to use the bicycles as well.

The breakfast could have been better, I choose to eat out after my second night. It was fine, but not great.

The wi-fi was slow and very unstable, sometimes it stopped completely. The property located in the middle of an alley and no cars can drive in to the front door.

They proposed us a free upgrade but then wanted to cancel our Booking reservation, a little bit awkward and fishy so we refused.

We had a really great stay. The hotel is down a narrow road so there’s no passing traffic and we had a large, comfortable room with a lovely balcony. It’s easy to walk to all of the main sights. The buffet breakfast had a great selection of hot and cold food. It’s worth also reading the google reviews as some people say that they booked this hotel and got moved to the sister hotel. I message the hotel before we arrived to confirm that we would definitely be staying here.

Mostly poorly educated guests who can be very noisy, liking to shout and slam doors at all times. We found it overpriced.

Friendly personal, clean and very well organised

The clean spacious room with the most comfortable bed yet, hot shower with bathrobes provided, location, walking distance to all the sites, the hearty breakfast buffet but most of all the friendly, helpful staff who took care of bike rental, train tickets and all our needs!

The location

Everything very dubious. When we arrived they wanted to see the booking.com print-out. Then they wanted my phone to ckeck the booking in my booking.com-app. Then they started to do sth in my app and I asked my phone back. I only paid after having seen my room (having been warned by earlier reviews). Also very strange: We paid 38 US$ per night, but they offered these rooms for 809 (!) US$ per night when we stayed there. That's ridiculous, in my opinion it is worth 25 US$, if the internet worked. But it always never did. Interestingly I worked perfectly, as soon as Chinese groups checked in. Every time. The shower sometimes only produced droplets (except when Chinese groups stayed in the hotel), sometimes it was impossible to take a shower. The not existing internet was a real problem for us for such a long periode. The bathroom smelled horribly like sewage. We had booked and paid for 7 nights, but after 4 nights we moved to another hotel despite the extra costs. The staff was not professional, often impolite. Btw, I usually rate 10/10, very very seldom less then 8.
