    Pros +

    • The location on the lake is very peaceful and it is right next to the ruins which is great-just a 2 min cycle ride. I also enjoyed the large room, the modern, large bathroom and nice shower, the service of the staff, and good quality food in the restaurant.
    • Great location, amazing room, friendly and helpful staff.
    • A beautiful lakeside hotel with very comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms conveniently located near the archeology sites. Very quiet. Refreshing welcome towel and a little shoulder massage put a smile in our faces.A half board option was both convenient and delicious. Service was impeccable and very helpful. Bicycle rental and laundry service were both very reasonable priced and convenient. There is also a spa within the premises.

    Cons -

    • The bedrooms need to be updated - old, stained carpets and wallpaper. A staff member instructed some people who were not guests of the hotel to sit on the chairs that were part of our terrace and served them drinks right in front of our window. We had to politely ask the people to move. We had .massages in the spa area, which seems to be a storage room/shower room for staff. You are asked to change in the bathroom and it was filthy with hair everywhere, and then people passing through the room while you are half naked and having a massage...
    • Restaurant prices were were high and included an additional 18% vat plus 10% service fee.
    • There should have been a bath.

The location is fantastic, close to the ruins. You can walk or bike to the ruins. The place itself is stunning with an infinity pool overlooking the Parakrama Samudra and a beach which gives you access to the Samudra. The food is really good. And Manager Priyantha Koralegedara & his team are warm & hospitable.

Elegant location, staff, and service. This is clearly the best location to stay when visiting Polonnaruwa, and the historic property is well maintained. The staff is very professional and well trained, including enthusiastic about keeping guests happy. Dinner service and high tea are also a plus!!!

The Ekho lake house is an amazing space with the perfect location for visiting Pollonaruwa. It is immediately close to the ticket office, has a classic architecture perfectly suited to the lake and classical Sri Lankan / British style that has been maintained with love and attention. Our entire group was impressed with the facility, and the superior service at mealtimes. Special thanks to Isuru for all the great support for our group and accommodating our needs.

The location is immaculate and the best in polonnaruwa. It's a boutique hotel but the rooms are spacious and comfortable.

There should have been a bath.

This is possibly the best hotel in Sri Lanka. With only 14 rooms it is quiet and serene. It overlooks the lake and is close to the town and the ruins. The rooms are simple but elegant and nothing is too much trouble for the amazing staff. The breakfast is exceptional and I have to say that I felt like royalty which is quite fitting since Queen Elizabeth II once stayed here. It is a privilege to stay in this exquisite hotel.

    Nothing everything was perfect

On arrival we were blown away with the small but perfect hotel. The staff were incredible and couldn’t do enough. The views were breathtaking and the birds mesmerising. The plunge pool was just perfect. Whole place well maintained and loved. The ancient city is just across the road so perfectly placed for sight seeing

    Loved it all!

Everything about this place was fantastic. The view, location and the room were amazing. The ruins are 100 meters away and the hotel is in the perfect location to explore.

The hotel Is at a vert beautiful spot. It claims to be high level and has high level prices, but to be honest it was not so good. The room was not dirty itself, bit full of stains. The carpet had a lot of it, all walls where full of death mosquitos etc. for a place like that I would expect more.We had dinner there. I can not understand the many positive comments. Maybe the cook was in holiday. But the food was average, the price way to high, the waiter slow and the live music extremely loud. The next morning we had breakfast and we have been seated on a other table. The table sheets where dirty from the night before. A couple was sitting there and I have seen the dirt already the night before. At this level it is the minimum to change the sheets of the dining table. We had probably the most expensive room. But on our patio were sitting other guests. The walls are so thin that you could here everything outside. Sometime it felt like having the undesired guests in our room.I would not stay again.

    - Staff was great, providing many tips, helping us to arrange bikes - Great welcome cake - Amazing view - Best location: 3 min walk from museum entrance

    - Breakfast: fruit tasted like it was cut the night before and took long - English of the non reception staff could be improved

    10JamesPosted on: 3-29-2025

Wonderful room (free upgrade) with beautiful views out across the lake. Best thing about this hotel are the staff, in particular the Senior Guest Service Manager, Priyantha Koralegedara, who was very attentive and efficient.

    Small pool

Beautiful room with a gorgeous view of the lake. Front desk staff were very nice and accommodating. Good Sri Lankan breakfast!

Fittings and carpet were somewhat dated. Staff in the restaurant seemed uncertain of how to serve food and drinks, that is, the service took longer than it should have. Menu was slightly limited. Pool was small and not entirely clean.

Incredible beautiful location, small but tastefully decorated hotel with very helpful staff. Historic site begins at the back door.

    Everything was fine

    Perfect position overlooking the lake.

The room was a little small but adequate.

    9OPosted on: 3-3-2025

The view, location, facilities, staff, pool, and breakfast were all amazing. This was our one and only "fancy" hotel during our 2 week stay - and it was a welcome break from other budget "hotels".

The carpet in the room looked super stained. It would be better to strip the carpet in complete and have some area rugs near the bed and couch area. Water at dinner was charged (a small water bottle - which was charged at 4 times the price of the same bottle bought at the local shops).

    Nothing, all great !
