Location overlooking sea.Straight out onto garden or pool then onto beach.Large room balcony Good breakfast .Free water .Room serviced .Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful -couldn’t have asked for more.

Room Number 5 AC stopped suddenly at 0400 am. Need maintenance other than that everything was okah

Excellent location right on the beach with the sound of waves to fall asleep to and wake up with. Friendly helpful staff who were always there but not invasive or pushy. Good inexpensive food and juices, great breakfast, chef happy to adapt to your requests.

Very friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble.Had sun beds and towels out waiting for us both days.Nice breakfast - fruit, juice, coffee, the biggest pile of fresh toast with butter and nice jam, Sri Lankan omelette.Basic room but perfect for what was needed - air con worked perfectly and nice view from room - straight out onto pool and beach view.Clean pool area straight onto the beach.Not an issue but we had to keep asking to pay and were told later or tomorrow when the manager was in, we were finally able to pay when checking out but would have liked to have paid on arrival so we could budget our money a bit better for the stay.Overall would stay again for relaxed, quiet stay.

Very quiet and out on its own with one other hotel next door and another along the beach. Not much to do around that area but food was served all day if hungry and perfect for our first couple of nights to chill and ease into the holiday.

Loved the beach access and the peace and quiet. It was away from the busy part of the town. Breakfast was plentiful. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The only positive aspect was the sea view and proximity to the beach, but despite that, with all the negative aspects, it turned into the worst hotel in the world for me.

Initially, we were greeted with the worst hotel room imaginable. Then we realized that the hotel lacked basic amenities such as water, soap, and even shampoo, despite being mentioned in the booking that they even had an iron. However, there was nothing in the room, and a regular hostel had better facilities than this supposedly three-star hotel. It was truly disappointing, and the staff's behavior was extremely poor. This hotel became the worst memory of the trip, turning into a nightmare.

Fantastic location on the beachfront and good in house food. Good spacious comfortable rooms.Good Restaurants within a 5 min walk too on the beach.

Slightly run down. Toilet/Bathroom can do with some renovations. People vaping/smoking on balconies and the draft brings the smell to our rooms.

In terms of value for money, this was so perfect. It exceeded my expectations given that I had to pay almost 1/3rd of the prices around the hotels nearby. You won't find a TV in your room here, but who needs a room when there is a nice view of a beach you can stare at all throughout the day. Staff was so responsive and friendly. Food also was good.

We had a great stay at the Southern Star. Responsive lovely staff who did everything to ensure we had the best experience. The room was clean and fresh with a fantastic view over the beach. New fridge, new AC and a comfortable bed. The pool was cleaned immediately in the morning. The breakfast was good. The chef prepared the most amazing food. I ate devilled chicken two nights. The best "Devilled" I've eaten.

Location was perfect, right on the beach. You could hear the sea at night! The hotel and the rooms were very comfortable, quiet and cozy. Good breakfast, kind and attentive staff. We had a super nice and relaxing time here. We also loved the two dogs (one of them was 20 years old!!), please continue to take care of them:)

No complaints about Southern Star, we enjoyed everything very much. However, we recommend that you avoid the tuktuks waiting outside the hotel. Much cheaper to book a ride using PickMe, just don't let the local "tuktuk maffia" chase your driver away.

The position was great, right on the beach, and the room was comfortable. Staff were really friendly and the food was fine. Good value for money. Nice pool.

Nothing to really complain about - except rather poor Wi-Fi - but without any real x factor to make it special.

The location is wonderful, right on the beach. The rooms have a decent sized balcony. The staff were pleasant, honest and helpful. The owner himself cooked wonderful pasta and sandwich for us.Breakfasts were adequate and cooked as per request. Be warned, the regular cook's food is very heavy on salt. Instruct amount according to your preference. There is no staff there overnight, but if you do step out for a late night, the watchman will let you in.

The bathroom was a very good size, but very basic. It needs a shower curtain, at least, and decent fixtures and more lighting. The room is smaller than it looks in the photos, but the bed is huge. If the extra, unneeded chairs were removed from the room, space would be created. The fridge provided, was right next to the bed, in a very uncomfortable position. If some thought was put into rearranging the room, it would make it real value for money.

the hotel is dirty and broken:The windows from the bathroom look out onto a platform where any burglar without temptation can, even from the street, come in from the street and climb through the window. In our room, the window hooks did not close. There is no safe in the room. the hooks from the door to the balcony were broken. the keyhole from the front door and the air conditioners are rusty and dirty. I was with my wife in that hotel from 2 o'clock in the afternoon until 10 am the next morning. During this time it turned off 3 times air conditioning and light. It was very stuffy at night. Because, as the staff once again fixed the electricity, the air conditioning was 16 C and the fan was not working well. The pool is dirty. We arrived after check-in and we had to ask the guys to wash the pool from branches and dirt. they did it, but it didn't get any better. in the morning: we wrote in booking that we want to change the reservation instead of 4 nights to 1 night. (Bukin helped. Thank you very much for your support and protection of users). The owner of the hotel, when he found out that we wanted to leave, began to show an aggressive tone when talking. And he didn’t want to let us go until we canceled the reservation, due to the fact that he didn’t want to pay a $30 tax. And he constantly asked to show his phone number, which was what Booking was writing about the cancellation. We said that it was illegal to detain us, because our dialogues should be conducted through the booking account to which my bank card is linked. Regarding the beach, the hotel is not located in Bentota. It is located nearby, the waves are very strong, you can only swim on the edge 400 meters to the left in a small area where there are water rocks. I am a Doctor, my wife is an Architect. We have traveled a lot and know what a 3 star hotel is. This is not a hotel or a service, and we are amazed at such a high rating and good comments.
